Ok, here's the test for ALL OF YOU!!!!!!

(hypothetically speaking, of course)

You're in the finals or a HUGE tournament.

The tournament is call-shot.

1st place is $40,000

2nd place is $20,000

Its hill-hill.

Both of the players have been calling the 'money' ball ALL set.

Your opponent is running out.

He gets to the game, set, match and title shot.

He doesnt call the winning ball.

He makes it.

You know he DID'NT call the shot before pulling the trigger.

WHAT WOULD YOU DOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

(puts ear to the cmp screen)

I'd let the Ref make the call.

If the Ref says "bad shot" I'd say I heard him call the shot. The Ref will either reverse his ruling, or say he didn't hear it so his call stands.

I'd call the foul, but I'd do it respectfully. I would not start hopping around the table celebrating that I lucked out by winning on a technicality.

Bank of America sucks too. I'd deposit the $$ with USAA.

I'm sure you're referring to the Pulpul/Biado match and that shot was a hanger. I wouldn't call that foul as the shot couldn't have been more obvious.

I'd shake his hand & offer congratulations. He won & I would NOT want to take it away from him & GIVE it to me on a technicality. I could never count it as a true win & therefore it would be a bit worthless.

I get it and I would never want to win like that. However that is why there are rules. People argue because of what they would do. They forget your opponent may not show the same kindness. This is why there are rules. You should not be looked down on for following the rules. Now let's say his opponent did not except the win. So he allowed him to foul and win. Now see if it were reversed Biado would have let his opponent have the win right. Who knows. If he did he might feel stupid if he knew how this match turned out. A foul is a foul. Your morales should not be put into question while your opponent is committing a foul.

Was it a straight in shot?

Actually that doesn't matter.

If he shot it where it looked like he was trying to, I would give it to him.

If he banks it, then no I'll call him on it.

If it looks like he's lining up for a bank, I will ask him where he's calling it.

Ok I know I am nit picking but it was semifinals of MP Cup Singles event and 1st prize was $13K not $40K. $40K is for doubles winner :)
Anyway, If I was Pupul I would pull Biado aside and tell him (Psst, I will keep quiet and let you win if you give me 50% of your winners cheque. So i will get $20K from Biados winnings + $20K for runners up so total i get $40K which is like winners cheque.
Biado gets the champ title + smaller cheque of $20K :D

We all like to think we know what we would do, but none of us really do.

Slim

This. I know I would not have reacted like a moron jumping and running around the table this way if I did take the win but I would like to think I would say you earned this not me and shoot the cb in the pocket.

I'd sh!t my pants and consider myself lucky for getting that far in a tournament.

In all seriousness though... I would take the loss because I didn't EARN the win. That being said, a rule is a rule. If its broken, one can't really complain.

If it was obvious I wouldn't call the foul. If the object ball bounced off a point at the side pocket, rolled down the rail, and dropped in the corner I would call it.

As for what my opponent would do in my place... well, that's his decision. I can only worry about - and control - my own actions, and at the end of the day, I have to look at myself in the mirror.

On the contrary, this is a prime example of where your morals come into play. The rules say you have to call the intended ball and pocket. The intention of the rule is to eliminate luck/slop from the game. If your opponent's intention is clear even without him declaring it, then the intention of the rule is met i.e., he is not lucking in a ball. What you do now is based solely on your own morals.

mor·al
ˈmôrəl/Submit
noun
plural noun: morals
1.
a lesson, especially one concerning what is right or prudent, that can be derived from a story, a piece of information, or an experience.
"the moral of this story was that one must see the beauty in what one has"
synonyms: lesson, message, meaning, significance, signification, import, point, teaching
"the moral of the story"
2.
a person's standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do.

What if someone else (not your current opponent) called it on you earlier in the same tournament? I still wouldn't.

What if your opponent called it on another person earlier in the tournament? That's not as clear cut, but I probably still wouldn't.

What if your opponent called it on you earlier in that match? Then I definitely would call it on him. Fair is fair.

I don't have any morales...

I don't have any morales, but I do have a Ruiz Gonzalez... (my wife's maiden name) I DO have morals....;)

Here is what I would do, and it has happened in both instances..(not with that kind of money of course, but the money is not the point to ME) (my morals don't change with $$)

With no ref present, I would yell out "hey, where you shooting it to?" Their usual first response is, that's the biggest shark move I ever had. Then, they go, THANK YOU!

If there is a ref present, I just sit there and say nothing. What happens, happens. It's the ref's job to call fouls, not mine. Now, if he didn't call it a foul, I would have some words with him later about learning to do his job correctly if he is going to be a ref.

Ref's call...
If the Ref is an A$$ then lets just agree to re-rack em and start over.
I'd rather lose with CLASS than win with NO-CLASS

Thank goodness someone around here is thinking clearly.

I'd take the money but only because my mom needs a liver transplant and Dad stole all our savings when he left to join the circus. Would that be OK?
