Can somebody please share what Big Arm John's last name is?
All the talk about him from CJ's post and others has me curious. He sure does remind me of a road player I played in Alabama in the mid 80's.
Thanks.....

Long pollack last name, can't be spelled or pronounced

His last name is John, first name Strong Arm. That's all his parents could afford.

Tommy John

Where's the problem?

If its something like Kolazinski or anything that resembles
that then its definently him. We thought at that time he was Polish
because of his name. He was a super nice guy and played
very strong. He stayed in our area for about a week then
moved on.
Small World.......

Did he play very slow? A week? So he got in about three games?

Tommy John is actually from my hometown of Terre Haute, Indiana.

I played pool with a nephew (I think), named Bobby John.

How anyone got the last name of John is beyond me.

Ken

without a doubt, ultra slow. he rolled through Cedar Rapids, IA almost 15 years ago now, spent a few days in town with 2 of his road dogs playing anyone and everyone. back in those days, I was happy to string 4 or 5 balls together and had no more than enough money to buy lunch at any given time. John offered me the 6 out for $10 a game to get something going. Things just worked out and I beat him for $100, which he generously offered to play me a $200 race to 7, which is pretty much twice as much money as I had on me at the time! He quit me to play someone that would allow him to make a little money, and as things turned out, I was the only guy in town who got anything of "those road players from Indiana". By the end of his trip, he was playing people with a broomstick. A broomstick that he got from his truck after making the game with a guy. A broomstick that had a chalked end on it already. Watched him jump a ball and draw half the length of the table with that thing!
I saw John a few years later at the Indiana VNEA state tournament in the action room and he remembered our game in CR. A nice guy for sure, he offered to give me another shot at him, which I of course declined! :)
I see him from time to time, I know he still plays at Brickyard billiards in Indy sometimes.
I'm sure there are more than enough Strong Arm stories to have a whole thread! He's also referenced in the Kid Delicious book, a great read.

Big Arm John's last name is Kotzelnick

He is a great gambler, plays good pool usually at a slow speed.

He has been known to take the worst of action and out run it and is willing to send in the cash.

Ain't nothing wrong with that.......

John Armstrong.

An Olde English name. Most likely from a family of Black Smiths, Stevedores etc.

Altho the names, Black, and Smith are also commonly associated with Black Smiths.

Just a wild guess tho.
