Who Really is the BEST Pool Hustler in the Country?

The 'normalcy' of a pool forum should be about the free exchange of thoughts and expression, so long as they are cordial and within forum rules.

Censorship, intolerance and protectionism should be banned, not free speech.

Did you just say within "forum rules" with a straight face

Well, you coming here is giving us all a little break in NPR, where u are crying about folks who report others to the mods....

Ok, I'm assuming you are still little butt sore on your last banning......yeah, I did set u up like a bowling pin, but in my defense I just could not resist

There, do you feel better knowing I was gunning for you......but u reported yourself , all I did was put out the bait, I never told you to swallow ;)

JAM...I got that spot from Keith when he was 17. It was on a 9' table, and I got lucky and scored a quick 6 games before Keith didn't like it and pulled up. He didn't care though, as he had busted just about everybody in the green room at the hotel to the tune of about 20 dimes!

Bus Driver Ronnie is now up in Fargo ND...playing league in Mike Page's room, Fargo Billiards.

I totally agree with you that the best players play any game on any equipment, at any time, for any amount! Great description of Keith, and I hope he kicks ass with this new series! Hope to see you both at the DCC next month!

Pookie managed to score a win against Keith, because nobody knew him, and he asked for a huge spot. Keith granted his request, wanting to see what Pookie could do on a field of green. I think it was the last 3 and the breaks. Pookie was stealing, but Pookie didn't have the art of the hustle down pat, because he only got played one set.

Bus Driver Ronnie also came to Sonny's to get in on the happenings.

It's amazing to me, the timing of this who's-the-best-hustler discussion, but I'll roll with it and contribute my 2 cents. I've hung out with the the cream of the crop when it came to road agents and hustling pool in my neck of the woods. Everybody boasts about their regional favorites because these are the players they know and have seen up front and close. I consider many of the players in my area as good friends, but none of them have the charisma, the gift of gab, and the ability to play all games, to include snooker, as Keith. Most pool players today are one-trick ponies and specialize in only one game of pocket billiards, like Cliff Joyner's expertise in the one-pocket game. A good hustler plays all games on any equipment and gets played wherever he hangs his hat, and that's Keith McCready.

Lol. I still only asked what titles he'd won.

Talking of which, how is your trophy cabinet coming along, scott? Awards for Hawaiian shirts don't count. ;)

Keith didn't try to win many trophies, Keith wanted the money, Trophies didn't spend very well back in that era!

the game's One Pocket or Two Foul 9 Ball

I rarely match up my games, that's Strong Arm John's department. They ask me for the "7/8/9" , so John will have to negotiate, that's how it works in the gambling world......I doubt if they play even, unless the game's One Pocket or Two Foul 9 Ball.

There is no train wreck on the horizon. Here's why and how it will go.

CJ: Hey Scooter, let's play some for $20,000.

Scooter: Sure CJ but I need this, this, this and this.

CJ: Well I won't give you that.

Scooter: Then we won't play.

CJ: But I'm the best pool hustler around:confused:

the good thing about John is that he doesn't have to be stealing...he will gamble. Was fun watching your traveling show come thru Peoria CJ.

.one slip could cost hundreds of thousands over the course of a year......

What pool hustler's do is small compared to what goes on in the major nightclub business. Dealing with band's agents, radio reps, liquor reps, state reps, staff, competitors, and TV agents kept me on my toes constantly......one slip could cost hundreds of thousands over the course of a year.

Click Here to see what the place looked like - this commercial was played consistently on ESPN for several months resulting (among other things) in us being #1 in the state {in blw sales} out of all restaurants, pool rooms and night clubs.

I know a guy that was one of the best big money road players ever
and he used the money he had won to open one of the biggest most successful
pool rooms in the country and a state of the art million dollar night club.
He then was smart enough to sell both at a big profit before the bottom
fell out of the business and guess what his name is C J Wiley

the "last 6 and the break with the magic rack"

Peoria brings back memories, I believe John's originally from that area, was it Bloomington, Decatur or Peoria, they all had a lot of action in the 80s. Carl James used to come down, with Mark Wilson, Jeff Carter and Scott Kitto......Quincy had some pretty good tournaments at "The Place," the first place I ever saw SA John.

I first played in Peoria at the age of 16, "Fergie" brought me over to play at the pool room, downtown across from the police station......there was a "pimp" there that gambled high and we "relieved" him of a few c-bax.

We'll come by and see you guys again when John gets back on the road.

I'm not giving up the "last 6 and the break with the magic rack" this time though. ;) Tell everyone "hi" for me and to practice up, we'll be back before you know it.

the good thing about John is that he doesn't have to be stealing...he gambles. Was fun watching your traveling show come thru Peoria CJ.

I would like the American Road Player to succeed.
BUT.......... I don't think they have a shot at raising the $40,000 with only 17 days left.
Unless 1 big donor steps in.
Some of you are way hard on CJ.
I say his project will make it to real TV before the American Road Player.
He definitely isn't trying to hook on to their train.
BTW loving ALL the stories!!

Keith McCready is the perfect choice to increase ratings and entertainment value

I, without a doubt want to see the 'American Road Player' succeed and any other pool show that can make it to TV - the more, the merrier.....it's always about opportunity meeting preparation, and who knows what will end up happening.

Keith is the perfect choice to increase ratings and entertainment value.....please don't sign any exclusivity contracts, Keith. ;) He was a great character in 'The Color of Money' and he's a charismatic personality in an ordinary "pool room" setting.

The group I'm affiliated with already has several successful reality shows..... they do mostly reality shows and documentaries. Money isn't their issue, it's getting the right, strategically placed time slots on a major network......this requires time, like many businesses they're budgeting and scheduling for 2015.

So out of all of this thread ,I have read every post and have seen everyone say they are the best and was the best. I have seen everyone that they have beat but no one seems to have been beaten . I happen to know that Tony Watson has beaten several of these players for big money. Just an honorable mention! So just asking CJ ,have you played Tony on your adventures ? As I know Keith has !

We had a game matched up for 5k (playing even) in Olathe

Yes, I gave Tony the "Wild 6" at my pool room and edged him out when he was a teenager. We had a game matched up for 5k (playing even) in Olathe and he didn't show up. I played Danny Smith with the "Wild 9" playing 10 ball instead.

Tony Watson?

Any current information on Tony Watson? There have been many rumors on his ups and downs in pool and away from it. Is he still actively playing or gambling, and if so where? Many years ago I was fortunate enough to see him play and like all those who are capable of catching that high gear, it was amazing.

Yes it was. I believe i heard he was playing somewhere for something in the last 2 years or so so i assume he is ok. I wonder if he still has that backer.

He was at the Smoky Mtn Shootout in April. He's still a beast and still playing

Tony Watson - we hope he's safe, sober and playing well.

He must keep a low profile, I haven't heard of him playing anyone in years. As much as he loves action this can't be a very good sign.....hope he's safe, sober and playing well.

it seems as if we're defining best hustler as the ability to generate action and walk away with the cash

if that is really the case, then Efren takes yet another title

he had action any time he wanted for at least a decade strong and in addition to winning mostly........was almost always backed and RISK FREE

now THAT is a hustler

Mike Lebron was the first one to take Efren around the country gambling.

Mike Lebron was the first one to take Efren around the country gambling. In his prime Mike played very close to Efren's speed of 9-Ball and within a ball playing one-pocket.

Winning the US OPEN at his age was impressive to say the least.

I was around them quite a bit, it's no secret that Mike had a huge influence on Efren. Mike hit the ball really well, until his pro debut he was one of the best unknown players in the country. Winning the US OPEN at his age was impressive to say the least.

When I ask Mike what Efren's advantage came from he simply said "touch of inside", Efren called it "no spin" (after contact)....that's the 2nd time I'd heard that phrase.....the third time was a charm. ;)

Let us know when you wake up.
