Any Word On How Danny Harriman Is Doing?

Any chance Danny may have wound up with Aspiration Pneumonia? That's the kind of desease that might put him in critial condition. Haven't seen williebetmore commenting on this thread. Guess he would be our expert.

Incidentally, haven't seen Don post in a long time. Hope he is OK.

we def could use a little md input on Danny's situation.

an fyi, Don has been on az, in fact, he posted in sjm's thread yesterday asking for opinions on which match we thought was the best of 2014.

I texted his Sister yesterday. She responded that he was stable but his kidneys are not working and he still has too much fluid in his lungs. He is not in a coma but he is not alert. There was no talk of pneumonia, only influenza.

Dennis, thank you very much for the update.

What I have been seeing in the news regarding the mean strain of this year's flu has been that the worst cases typically requiring hospitalization involve pneumonia.

Continued prayers for Danny and his family.

best,
brian kc

I just heard that his kidney's have still not repsonded and are not functioning...I hope he pulls through, Ive known him ever since he was 14 and came in lateto the Jr. Nationals qualifer at Mother's Worry wearing his track shorts! :) He's used to be achampion long distance runner, then he focused on pool and a million balls later we all know how he exceeds at that!! He will beat this too...

Updated on Danny's status.

Afternoon everyone. I just got off the phone with Danny's mother Belinda. I haven't
seen Danny since I visited him on Sunday evening. He was not doing to well on
Sunday, and took a baby step backwards from Saturday. Since then, Danny has
been getting a little bit better everyday. Since his condition was so critical, this does
not mean he is anywhere near out of the woods. He is still very sedated, and no
where near alert. Just to get everything clear. Danny was never in a coma. Not a
real one, or an induced one. Also, Danny does not have pneumonia. Just a very
very bad flu strain. He is responding to questions being asked of him, but not by
talking. He answers by nodding, or trying to do what the doctors ask of him. By
wiggling his toes and such. Danny is on a kidney dialysis machine. This does not
mean that his kidneys are failing, but since he has so much fluid in his body, the
machine is helping him rid of it. Belinda told me that God willing, the dialysis machine
may be turned off in the next few days if there are no setbacks, and he keeps getting
a bit better everyday. Right now, the biggest problems Danny has are ridding his body
of these fluids, and having his kidneys make his own urine. Danny's parents are
asking that you please keep Danny in your thoughts and prayers. She knows that
there are many people praying for Danny, and they are truly appreciative. They are
very hopeful that Danny will be much better very soon, but it will not be an easy road.
All of the indications show that he is working in the right direction, but they are very
small indications. I am definitely felling a bit better now, than before our conversation,
and I hope this update helps.

Thanks all, Dom.

Here is something I suggest. Someone close to Danny set up a blood bank for him. GET THE INFO HERE IN A SEPARATE THREAD TITLED AS SUCH. In the hospital you use blood and it costs. Donors do not need to be a match, the bank pools blood donations and the person receiving the donation will get credit and receives his type. I am currenty recovering from staph infection from a failed surgery, actually two. I may not be eligible but will check tomorrow. I do not know him but this may help. This was done for me in 2010 by friends when I underwent major surgery.

Thanks for the update, it sounds like he's being well taken care of.
Sending thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery!

For Danny:

You are in our prayers Danny and Family. I hope you are better very soon, and may God bless you all.

thanks for the update Dom -

kidney issues can also result from something as simple as dehydration.... could be the flu. could be overexertion. injury. etc etc. what happens, is the body simply gets "öut of whack"; off-kilter. this sets a downward "ïnfectious" spiral to your electrolyes - which are apparently the BASIS for your being & can lead to stroke or heart attack. (potassium & SED rate specific blood tests can confirm this)

there's a difference b/w fluid in the BODY, vs in the LUNGS. lungs, is pneumonia. body, is how your organs are functioning.

pneumonia can normally be resolved; other is very tricky to diagnose. but if this is an indication of a new strain of flu....very scary! thanks all, for your input!

i hope he pulls through.

C'mon, Danny, turn the corner on this thing.

It sounds like he has the new mutated strain that was discovered to be in circulation after this year's vaccine was manufactured. That means that you can get it even if you got the flu vaccine. In fact, according to this recent article, 52% of cases seen have been confirmed to be the mutated strain:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...dren-killed-one-week-43-states-red-alert.html

You should get the shot anyway because it will still be good for four other strains, and it may possibly confer some degree of immunity to the new H3N2 strain.

In the meantime, use extra precautions with hygiene as has already been mentioned. But mainly, don't tough this thing out if you do get sick. Get some anti-virals (Tamiflu) from your doc. He may even call them into the pharmacy for you after hearing your symptoms on the phone. Quarantine yourself to the best of your ability, but above all, get to the ER if you take a sudden and drastic downturn.

Time is of the essence. The young woman mentioned in the article died at home in her mother's arms a mere week after first contracting the killer bug. Had she been in a hospital she might still be alive today.

Thanks all, Dom.

This is the information we received back here in Springfield. Thanks, Dom.
We're all thinking of you my friend, and hope for a speedy recovery.

OK Guys, I have some good news. Danny is doing better. I don't want to say much
better, or great, but he's better. The fluid in his lungs is pretty much gone. He is
awake and talking, but not alert and strong. Yesterday was a whisper, and today at
least his voice was there a bit. His throat is sore from the tubes that were in there
for the past week. His heart and lungs are good. Since he was on dialysis, his kidneys
stopped working. The main thing is to get them to start going again. Tomorrow they
will be taking him off of dialysis to see if the kidneys will start up again. If they do,
Danny will be on his way to recovery. I will be heading down hopefully tomorrow to
actually have a little chat with our friend. Very good news guys. I hope to have more
good news soon.
