Jayson Shaw playing real well

Since late last year Shaw has been playing very well.
Keep in mind he is young and only transitioned to American pool few years ago
He now breaks and jumps as good as anybody, and also started playing one pocket half way decent which will enhance his game
He took SVB close 100-93 and battering him the 2nd day
North East tournaments he been snapping off or sharing with Dechaine
Saw on his ustream channel he ran 10 racks against 10 ball ghost then a couple with 11,12 balls in rotation
I think he will have a decent showing at the Derby, not strong enough to win but I think he might get in some big action games and I fancy him winning the all round at the US bar table

Love his pace and confidence.... I feel like I just watched a clinic...
 
Jayson is a phenomenal player. As you note, he and Dechaine bag most of the Joss titles between them, though Mike has had a small edge in their head to head matchups. It's the best rivalry in American pool, in my opinion.

Jayson is a threat to win any event he enters, but he is a bit less consistent than he might be. He also doesn't handle adversity as well as he might. He's starting to show some progress in both of these areas.

There's no limit to what Jayson can accomplish, and nobody would ever want to draw him but I feel he's still maturing as a player.

Jayson, as you suggest, is playing real well and is definitely one to watch.

yes totally agree with you. I think Jayson knows his weaknesses and they are all between his ears as opposed to his fundamentals

again, I have seen some progression in these areas, he has not snapped a stick in a while like he did against Earl

coming from behind is also a weakness for him but agsin he doing that better.
i think he wont dominate this year but will have his hiighest paying year and titles
 
The guy is scary good and a big threat to win ANY rotation event he plays in

His style of play and confidence at the tables remind me of Strickland. I'd love to see them pair up as a team in a doubles match.

Yes, they played each other a lot, and Jayson dominated.
 
I was there tonight, and Shaw looks comfortable. By then end he was pushing a stroller with his new born baby girl and talking to her while watching the late matches. He has a new inspiration in his life, and it makes men do amazing things-family.

I liked Shaw before the tournament and after tonight I'm doubling down.

If both he and archer win their opening match tomorrow, they will play each other around 8pm. Can't wait.
 
I think Shaw only has a few things holding him back from being the dominant force in pool. And, it appears he has been working on them. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see him be the dominant force in a year or two. He has the potential to be a ways above everyone else. (except maybe some Asians we don't know about yet that just might already be there!)
 
Shaw looks like the guy to beat right now.

The last Turning Stone event had Shaw winning, with Mika second and Rodney third, and all are well placed entering Saturday's play. Archer and Sossei should figure prominently, too.

The losers side looks like a minefield with Hohmann, Dechaine and Ignacio all facing great odds to reach the last three, but each is certainly capable of a big winning streak.

This is all further evidence of why the wpa recognition of this tour stop. It's extremely difficult. Dechaine was a safety battle hill hill away from being two and out of this tournament.

And after today with archer and Shaw heading for each other, one of them will be in losers bracket by 10:00 pm, making the left side even more difficult to navigate to the finals.

He plays in another dimension in terms of aggressive and confident stroke play.

I had the misfortune of playing him in the 2007 IPT World Champs while he was still getting the hang of the big balls and table.. as was I. He got me 8-6 as I recall, but I remember doing all I could to keep him from an open shot once I saw how rapidly he could clear up from half a sniff.
 
Jayson reminds me a bit of Rodney Morris. Both have a powerful game and, based on their body language, neither looks overly challenged by most of the runouts they attempt. Free and easy, both of them.
 
I'm really pulling to get to see the Archer/ Shaw match if they both win this morning. I think that would be the one to watch today.

This field is so strong that there will be numerous "breathtaking" matchups before it is over.
