I could watch Earl warm up for hours. The magic he puts on that cue ball is unreal.

This was right before his immortal match vs Bustamante during the accu-stats 8 ball invitational back in November.

I had this on my phone, and thought I'd share it...only a minute long, but wow, what a stroke.

Everyone says they have hit "a million" balls, etc.

It would be very interesting (for an Engineer like me) to know how many have they really hit?

The number might surprise a lot of folks.

IMHO, He's just testing the table conditions there to see if the spin will still be on the ball when it gets to that last rail.

He 'showed' that shot on one of the TAR promos, I think with Shane.

It looks like he's loading up with only a tip above center. The object balls vanish at light speed. I remember watching for a while in awe and then at last minute telling myself to get the camera out. Im glad I captured what I did because he was extremely on that tournament.

I'm going to watch that TAR promo now, thanks for the heads up.

Just doing some quick math I suspect Earl has hit a lot more than a million balls in his life.

This must be Earl's favorite shot because I've seem him on video playing that shot numerous times (including one of the TAR podcasts with SVB). I'm 1% of the player of Earl but I'll tell you it's not that hard of a shot. A few months ago I was practicing and in good stroke so I set up the shot. I was able to rifle the ball into the pocket and go 3 rails around the table with good regularity. But I think Earl is able to sneak the CB around another ball a few inches off the end rail he is standing at, and I don't believe I came close to that.

The key is that the CB and OB are not that far apart, so you can aim accurately. Then you need to dial in the deflection of your cue.

Set it up and give it a try.

I've seen him shoot it with much more separation between the CB & OB. Like & I said earlier, I think he shoots that shot to test he table conditions to see if the spin will stay on the ball til that last rail. For him, it's not just getting the ball to go 3 rails. That's not the issue.

Like Cardagin Kid said, He's barely hitting above center but he is loading it up with side spin.

Best 2 Ya,
Rick

Is there a link to the actual match?

That match is part of Pat's accu stats eight ball invitational dvd series. He is taking preorders and almost done with preproduction.

Believe me, that match is worth the price of admission in the sheer excellence by both players and the amazing shot by earl top break out a cluster and get position (highlighted in last month's billiards digest)

Notice that Earl is also never afraid to dress up and look sharp. He always looks good in a black vest. He doesn't wear shorts and waddling sandals.

Earl gets it.

Absolutely.

I also dig Earl's swagger as he hits that final shot, and strolls away, like a hot shot attorney that just broke the hostile witness and turned the jury..."I'm done with this guy" as he strolls back to his seat.

Go get 'em, Earl.

Just another valid reason as to why pool is in the dumps at the moment.

You turn on ESPN and they are wearing raggy jeans and their tee shirt with some logo on it, not pertaining to pool isn't even tucked in.

They look like they are practicing or meeting their Buds at the bar for a few.

Want to be considered Professional, look and act like it.

For the most part, at least wear a pair of casuals and a collar. Even when Cliff Thorburn used to come to town once a year for the Champange Cliff Open 9 Ball and Snooker Tourney. Dress pants and a collar were mandatory, cause that is the way Cliff dresses.

The clothes worn by pool players has zero to do with why it is not popular in the masses. Anyone saying that is grasping at straws.

Poker is one of the most popular games out there & the majority are not dressed "professionally" yet it has not hurt the popularity of the game.
