Mike Webb experience..

Maybe our personal meaning of the word "disaster" is slightly different! Anyway, if you speak to Mike again, tell him Eli says hi! I haven't seen him in over 4-5 months now!

What I meant is he is a disaster in his work habits. Yes he's had things happen to him but all of us have. We still have responsibilities.

I like Mike and he disappointed me. I really feel let down.

Don't take it personal bub, but when your have a business like Mike's, a lot of people have let him down which in turn causes him to let down others,,,,, I'm 100% sure it's not done purposely, it's just the way it is!

I totally understand your aggravation, my problem was with the word you decided to use;) I'm totally guilty of that myself at times and even "the great me" needs to be reminded;)

Either way, hope all goes well for you sir:)

Eli

The thing that I find most laughable in situations like this is how serious people take themselves. Are we saving lives? If our sport and hobby disappeared tomorrow who exactly would care and how would the world be affected?
Enjoy your day

When you pay for a service, you expect it done inow the time quoted.

It doesn't hurt me any if you have no kitchen for 2 years while the contractor hangs out with your cash, even though he quoted 3 weeks.

Very true! Can you imagine if we never ever get our cues back? We would have to form militias and start piledging city's and towns on our conquest to get our cues back from the dreaded cue makers!

And then,,,,,,

I'm very close friends with Mike and can say that, if I were Tate, I'd be pissed too. And, knowing Mike the way I do, he would agree with me.
Mike is very admirable, a great friend and cuemaker but I would bet serious money he would own this as a mistake and not make excuses.

Chris, happy to hear you spoke with Mike and this is being sorted out.

he was just too nice to say it . . . .

Just thought others thinking of dealing with him may wish to have a heads up.

I purchased a Mike Webb cue, like new second hand.. Nice cue but due to a brain fart and temper by me the shaft was ruined..:(

Now I had read on here several negative post of others experiences regarding him about lake of contact very very late but reached out and called anyway. Very surprised he did call back within a day or so and very pleasant to chat with. (no email or text just calls with ID is all he deals with)

Told him what happened and asked about a new shaft to keep the cue original. NO PROBLEM..about 2 -3 weeks (called mid Sept about) About a week later I called back to see if he could make also a mid 3' black extension...No problem will be starting first of the week should be all done b4 the end of the month (OCT.)

Got a call Thanksgiving week saying only 1 one poly coat should be done this weekend and out 1st Dec. GREAT THANKS

Well you likely guessed or the review would be all happy now!!

NOPE...not shipped

X-mas week I think I called by him mistake. Wrong button pushed on my cell phone....He says "just going to call you. I called the guy I ship UPS with ASKING for the SHIPPING #'s" ..(NOTE THIS) Implies complete and packaged right.

Well guy tells him his UPS is account has been frozen personal money matter (not Mikes) so Mike says he went/or will pick them up and ship USPS asap. But doesn't want to put them in the x-mas rush for fear of damage...

Well come week b4 MLK week 14th Jan. Now this is 3 weeks later I call and ask whats up...ya ya ya. Mike I don't wish to be an A S S..."Oh no it's not you it's me" Mike says I let him know if I do receive them by middle of next week keep them... Oh I should have already shipped them out. it's me not you...OK

Well 2 weeks later and nothing...I'll not call again...If they happen to arrive I'll post.

JUST FYI for those that may care.

Mike was just too nice to say anything, those three foot mid cue extensions are a pain in the rear to get perfect, then when you want it in black it has to be perfect times ten! My guess is he is still repainting and repolishing that extension.

Hu

(I know, but after three pages I figured it was way past time somebody ragged you about the three foot extension!)

Thanks Koop - I didn't know that you guys were friends. He is fortunate to have a friend like you.

LOL i just read that as a 3 inch extension, if it was 3 feet what are you planning on doing throwing it as a javelin or pole vaulting. Yeah so Mike is slow why do you feel the need to to bust his ass in a public forum. Did you gain anything other than some commiseration and moaning.

Breaking News Water is Wet and Cue Makers rarely get anything finished on time

If all the custom cue makers hit all there deadlines perfectly they really would not be custom. Custom work takes time an nobody wants to hear the reality.

Another idea for ya is don't break your shaft because you got mad.

i have bought cues from andy gilbert/paul dayton/ and chris nitti(2)
communication was always easy/direct/and if there was a delay i was told and the cue came in a reasonable amount of time
having someones cues for years to me is way beyond the time frame to give the person the benefit of the doubt

no one is saying mike is a bad person or his work is bad
quite the opposite
he is a great guy and his work is terrific(when you get your cue LOL)
from this thread it seem unless you know him personally
you never know when you will get your cue
the op did nothing more but do public service to alert members of his experience
which DOESNT seem to be the exception to the rule
again

there is a huge difference from being late on finishing and telling the customer so. and lying to him, telling him its finished or almost and being shipped out when nothing about that is the truth.

once you hear someone lies to his customers about anything, you should think twice before you do business of any kind with the person. if you do you get what you deserve.

...My shaft my issue ... SO KISS THIS

The point was THE MAN SAID IT WAS DONE AND HAD ATTEMPTED TO SHIP IT...so why not ship it.

It's BUTTHEAD's like you that turn things such as this into more then it was meant to be....

I just want to chime it here. I have known Mike fairly well for about 15 years. Overall he is a great guy. My good friend has an amazing playing cue from him that he tried very hard to *give* her outright many years ago. She is a very nice girl and tries real hard at the game, and has become one of the top women players in MA. Mike wanted to support women in pool, and insisted she take this great cue for free. She ended up just paying him for materials. He totally rebuilt the cue like a year or two later, because he said he had "learned some things, and wanted to make it better." He did. Very noticeably. That is just awesome in my book.

Personally, I had him make me a 4" extension to go between the butt and shaft about 3 years ago, before I ever even heard of that idea and the fad hadn't reached any speed yet. He did it in like a week, and it was totally awesome. I still use it 100% of the time I play. The G10 screw I wanted crumbled apart. Not Mike's fault at all. For cheap money he replaced it with another black G10 screw which has been perfect ever since.

All in all my dealings with him have been positive. Of course, he has numerous times told me that he respects me as a good guy and gentleman, so perhaps he tries harder with me. Who knows.

I just wanted to throw my $0.02 in with some good words about Mike. I see him every week at Snookers.

KMRUNOUT

I went to Larry Lisciotti room years ago during a joss tour, I had 5 friends with me. I decided to have Mike press my wrap. I went back to his booth a hour later and when I went to pick up my cue, the finish on both sides of the wrap was lifted and bubble like white spots ...myself and my friend knew that the cue was perfect before he pressed the wrap... He had to have pressed over the wood as well... He stood there and looked me in the eye and said it was there. At the time I was talking to him about buying a dozen cue from him...I paid the man for the press and ordered the dozen cue from someone else...his lost...your probably wondering why I paid him...well he did press the wrap as I requested...I made a deal I paid.... Never looked back!!!!!

Sorry Buddy, you already did that when you started this Thread. Didn't think of that, did you.

Breaking news: serial killers like to kill people. So by your logic we should just accept it and let them go about their business right?

Here is some real breaking news for you. There generally isn't any excuse for failing to live up to your obligations, including any promised completion/delivery times, and there is never, ever, ever any excuse for lying to or failing to have great communication with your customer. It isn't acceptable, and shouldn't be accepted.

Attitudes like yours are why people have become as shi77y as they are these days. As Edmund Burke said, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." In other words people are able to be the way they are, and get away with what they do, because people like you have stopped holding them accountable. As soon as you start accepting something, it becomes acceptable. Failing to meet your obligations, lying, and bad communication isn't nor will it ever be acceptable to me.

Sorry Buddy, you already did that when you started this Thread. Didn't think of that, did you.

Just curious as to why you might think that...

I never said he wasn't a nice guy or that his work was lest than excellent..This was not to BASH Mike Webb

The time line and and interaction were and are spot on exception of a typo ' not '.

Luckily I do have multiply cues and had a spare shaft (OK my issue) I wished to keep the cue ORIGINAL (Good for the cue maker no? )

Mike owes me NOTHING and if he were to ship I would pay him ASAP and as said post as such...But that was not the point of the thread as some have moved it to.. It was more about what was said and what to expect. MOST of us are not local to Mike as to talk shoot pool with and maybe get to know personally.

Last post for me...
