What is a chinese 8 ball table?

Exactly - 6 x 12 - with snooker type pockets the size of a golf table - and balls
bigger than Carom balls.

The Chinese table isn't even close.

In Russian Pyramid corner pockets are about 1/8" wider than a ball.

Thanks for posting those. They were made after Potts' two wins in the Masters, but before this most recent Masters last month. In the Shot Clock video, he suggests revising the rules. In the previous Masters, apparently matches were played for 210 minutes regardless of score. Gareth suggested having the matches end at the earlier of one player winning x games first or the expiration of a time limit. I.e., a race to x, but if time expires before someone reaches x wins, then the player who is ahead wins. If they are tied at that point, they do the Penalty Shoot Out. And that's what they did this year -- race to 13 subject to a 130-minute match limit (along with a shot clock). I like it!

Here are the pockets on the Chinese 8 ball table.
And, FWIW, I wouldn't call Pyramids pool.

It's as much pool as china 8 ball is. I would call C8b Snooker with pool balls, and E8b
Snooker with mini balls.

As stated before, these tables are for players who hate pool.

How true, the Chinese realized how difficult and far behind they were in Snooker so like any pool hustler, to gain an advantage they chose to go another way and change the game, because it gave them an advantage :) typical pool player actions if ya ask me.

i think it's more about calling it their own game and promoting it as something homegrown

I know, it is what it is tho, but....

Soccer is the same all over the world, should the Chinese make the field smaller and the goals different

How about a 3 cushion table with one pocket. Score two points on a make :).

Just havin' fun....

Too literal.

The concept is about the game, and all it entails, not the name.

"You can paint a jackass gold and call it Trigger - but that don't make it Roy Rogers horse"

I don't see why these tables are for people who hate pool...

It's regular pool balls and rails that are adjusted for them...
You use your standard pool cue sticks right?
Faster cloth, when is that ever a bad thing...
Tighter pockets make it more challenging and therefor more fun!

Am I missing something? These tables sound great!

I would love to see some straight pool on one of these.

"Am I missing something?"

Obviously - any concept of what constitutes appropriate equipment.

There is a great game on tables with demanding pockets, it's called Snooker.

Straight pool on those tables would be a nightmare... in addition to playing breakouts on clusters, you have to worry about playing breakouts on balls near the rails as well... not very fun. :(
