My eye doctor told me I now have cataracts in both eyes and that one is borderline surgery.
I'm wondering how this will effect my pool game.
It's a simple out patient procedure. Basic surgery doesn't really improve your vision markedly, but you'll notice a terrific change in brightness, clarity and the seeing of true colors; particularly your white color renditions.
They do one eye at a time, and after one has been done, if you cover one eye you can see how drastically brown the untreated eye compares to the vivid and pure white of your clear eye.
Most insurances cover it totally if you get a rating of 40% of higher. I didn't even know I had them until a routine eye exam at Lenscrafters. It's totally pain free. They put you on a Versed drip, you say Hi to the doctor, and the next thing you know your ride is waiting to take you home.
The only annoying aspect is having to self administer eye drops for two weeks prior to the procedure. I believe, if untreated, they will only get worse; but consult with your optometrist for details. Mine were bad enough; 40% and 60% that I didn't realize I was only driving c. 25 miles per hour. My vision was so dark and cloudy, that 25 was the fastest I could diagnose road conditions.
If your insurance covers it, do it. What a difference. You can also opt to have your vision actually corrected during the procedure, but insurance normally doesn't cover this and it's many thousands of dollars extra. Even if you opt for corrective surgery, your eyes will still require glasses later on anyway as your eyesight changes naturally with age.
Think of yourself now as playing with a very, very scratched pair of amber sunglasses. Pool aside, it's literally like being given a new set of eyes. I told my optometrist that I hoped he would eventually need the procedure himself; as then he would only know how totally he had changed people's lives for the better.
