My eye doctor told me I now have cataracts in both eyes and that one is borderline surgery.

I'm wondering how this will effect my pool game.

My mother just had cataract surgery last year. They exchanged her lenses with corrective ones. She says that she has never had better vision. My 85 year old father had it done 5 years ago. The first thing he said was "I forgot what the color blue looked like".

On a side note, she doesn't play pool....it's just a bar game to her.

The best eye correction surgery is lens replacement (exactly the procedure you will have to fix your cataracts). They can replace the lenses with multifocal ones so you won't need reading glasses. I actually considered this over lasik, but it costs around $10,000.

Seek out THE BEST EYE DOCTOR in your city.

Most likely, if you have a good eye doctor, it will improve your pool game. I think I remember that Cataracts have to be "ripe" for lack of a better word before the operation should be done and I also remember that a new ONE-TIME lens can be installed. Some vision can be improved to 20-20 with a new lens while others can only be improved so much. While my wife's vision improved when she had cataract surgery (and a new lens) she still needed glasses but a lower prescription.

Good luck.

It's a simple out patient procedure. Basic surgery doesn't really improve your vision markedly, but you'll notice a terrific change in brightness, clarity and the seeing of true colors; particularly your white color renditions.

They do one eye at a time, and after one has been done, if you cover one eye you can see how drastically brown the untreated eye compares to the vivid and pure white of your clear eye.

Most insurances cover it totally if you get a rating of 40% of higher. I didn't even know I had them until a routine eye exam at Lenscrafters. It's totally pain free. They put you on a Versed drip, you say Hi to the doctor, and the next thing you know your ride is waiting to take you home.

The only annoying aspect is having to self administer eye drops for two weeks prior to the procedure. I believe, if untreated, they will only get worse; but consult with your optometrist for details. Mine were bad enough; 40% and 60% that I didn't realize I was only driving c. 25 miles per hour. My vision was so dark and cloudy, that 25 was the fastest I could diagnose road conditions.

If your insurance covers it, do it. What a difference. You can also opt to have your vision actually corrected during the procedure, but insurance normally doesn't cover this and it's many thousands of dollars extra. Even if you opt for corrective surgery, your eyes will still require glasses later on anyway as your eyesight changes naturally with age.

Think of yourself now as playing with a very, very scratched pair of amber sunglasses. Pool aside, it's literally like being given a new set of eyes. I told my optometrist that I hoped he would eventually need the procedure himself; as then he would only know how totally he had changed people's lives for the better.

A Chinese woman had an eye exam from a local optician. When the exam was over he informed her that she had a cataract.
"Oh, no doctor," she exclaimed, "I have a Rincoln." :)

We have several players in the Tulsa area that have had surgery for cataracts & are very pleased about their outcome.

you will see much better and play better pool as well. get it done as soon as you can as our vision will get worse over time and doing it when they are small is easier. hope you have insurance of some kind. if not get it and get past the waiting part.

Had left (dominant) eye done last week and right will be done next week. Medicare covers everything it if its bad enough or you find the right doctor that says its bad enough. With just my left eye done it looked like added another 20-30 watts to the pool table lights. My vision is the best it has ever been without glasses in the left.. Not 20/20 though. Excited to get the other one done.
I have astigmatism, Curvature of eye problem. I paid an extra $1800 to have Toric lenses put in that should help. They told me they use a laser after the operation or years later to help correct vision to the best it can get but one still might need glasses.
I will need cheater glasses for sure. The lens implant can correct that too but I was warned too many problems so I opted out of that.

HELP??? All of a sudden my display font in reading posts has switched to a small font.

Any idea how I can adjust the size of my display font? It's not solely on this thread. I now feel like my cataracts have returned.

I went to my CP and Edit Options, but couldn't find anything pertinent.

Thanks for any assistance, guys...
