SVB Softening Up?

Ironically, a Filipino has eliminated Shane in the USBTC 10 Ball event.

And Ignacio is in the finals! He really is cashing in alot since his trip to the US started.

Geronimo finished 3rd.

it's actually the same Filipino (Edgie Geronimo) who eliminated Shane in last week's Chuck Markulis Memorial Tournament.

Yeah I like that guy, I've been following him through the Mezz West State tour and watch a lot of his matches on youtube. Super strong player.

If nothing else, Shane has figured out a way to make a good living as a professional pool player. He is consistently at or near the top of the money list every year. This is not an easy thing to do. In light of that, it's very hard to argue against his decision making when it comes to his choice of tournaments.

The guy knows what he's doing and it's quite possible that him winning the elusive "World" title is much more important to some people on this forum than it is to him.

Shane is not sponsored by CSI.

I talked to him yesterday and asked him why he didn't go to the 10 ball. His answer surprised me and it had nothing to do with worrying about not being good enough. His reason made sense to me.

If you want to know what that is do what I did and ask him. Or just make shit up to troll. Whatever works.

The usbtc are Mosconi cup points earning events for USA players.
So that alone makes sense for any US player who wants to play on the Mosconi team to go to Reno instead of the world 10 ball

Ah, but a "world" title is worth more than the prize money that comes with it. Having said that, couldn't agree more - he is making a very good living playing a game he loves.

Because why spend all that money to go overseas when you can stay here and play the USBTC and move on to the Chinook Winds $10k first place prize, which is a bar table event. We are all human and it's easier to choose money over competition.

Lemme get his number then.

Its my first time to start an SVB thread and I have been wondering why he decided not to attend the MP WPC 10 ball tournament. Maybe because he knows his chances of winning it is close to nil? That he has better chances in the USBT? I know someone said he had prior commitments but if he really wants to, he can go whereever he desires to. Discuss. :grin-square:

You are very brave man
SVB mania has softened.
Few years ago, you will be lucky to get out in 1 piece if you start a thread like this
There was like a mob and you had to wear bullet proof vests to dodge these trigger happy freakcases.
:D

If Shane felt his ev at the tournament minus his expenses will be higher for the USBTC
then the WC 10-ball (which it may very well be because his expenses will be way lower)
then it would simply make sense to go to the USBTC.

Sounds like smart thinking. Prestige and such is nice but it don't pay the bills.
Most likely however he had simply allready commited to the USBTC and kept his word.

gr. Dave

Shane is pretty smart and made the decision he felt was right for him. Just from the outside looking in you can see there are more reasons for him to play Reno USBTC that the PacMan.

!) less expenses.
2) Field of players may be easier.
3) He grew up on Bar Box.
4) More of a favorite to win or make $$
5) If he gave a commitment to play in the USBTC prior to the Pac Man he stands by it.
6) After last years Mosconi Cup performance he may not in his own mind think he is a lock for the team and with his results at DCC and here three events in one place that carry Mosconi Cup Points.

I am sure there are more that I am not privy to like Justin but I think just these reasons are enough to stay here imo.

Pretty bold statement when you said his chances of winning is close to NIL...IMO, Shane is best shot-maker today and he has mastered one of the most important shots in the game which is the break. This places him above most of his competitors almost every single time. Shane has his reason(s) and whatever it is, it is what is best for him at this time. The way I see it, Shane actually has most of the Filipinos' number. His loss to Edgie at the Markulis tourney wasn't so much because Edgie dominated him, he just made more unforced errors which gave Edgie the chance to snatch the games when it should have been his...Edgie is a strong player but he didn't play that good but it was good enough to beat Shane.

I would like to see Shane and Jeff or Shane and Edgie in a long race of 10-ball. A combo of 9ball, 10ball and 8 ball all in a race to 30 would also be nice...

LOL. Shane doesnt need to earn Mosconi Cup points. He's the best American player for the past 3 years, and top 1-5 best in the world.
