Black marks on pool balls....arghhhhhhh

I had a Ford Explorer with a "defect" in the Firestone tires. Ford replaced the tires on all Explorers to insure the "defective part" was properly dealt with.

I'm a little confused, has someone you know...DIED because of scuff marks on the balls from pocket liners? People were DYING is why Ford recalled the Firestone tires...NOT quite the same with pool table pocket liners. Here's the real question....do the pocket liners on a Diamond table....PREVENT the balls from being pocketed? Because if they did, then that would be considered a defect in the design of them...which is preventing them from doing what they're suppose to do, which is to provide a catchers mit so to speak in the pockets as to allow the balls to drop down into the awaiting basket. Flaw and defect are two totally different words with different meanings.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one Glen. Your earlier example of replacing a 2010 ford with a 2014 was the imputus of my last comparison. As there have been some useful suggestions (alochol rub, and black cloth gluing) I'll resort to my own means to attempt to correct the "problem, defect, issue" or whatever we choose to call it on my own.

I love my Diamond table and believe it to be one of, if not the finest, table in the market today. I like it better than my earlier GC. I just wish I didn't have to use cleaners on the balls after each day's (somethines more that once) play. I use a Ballstar cleaner and like the earlier post on this thread it does a great job but, will not remove the black marks. Diamond would go a long way in offering some type of solution to this problem. I've found them to be very helpful in the past. I just don't agree that ignoring the opportunity to offer help to owners to upgrade to a better quality pocket would hurt them or thier reputation. That is unless the new pockets don't catch the ball.

I own a Diamond Pro Am red , bought new. The only complaint is the black marks left on the balls. I find it does agravate me. I did purchase the Diamond ball cleaner. Does a great job, but will not remove the black marks.

Have you tried using Magic Eraser to clean the pool balls? Just dab the Magic Eraser sponge in a little bit of denatured rubbing alcohol and wipe the pool balls clean of the unwanted smudges and markings.

one cause for black marks on pool balls is dye transferring from diamond pockets.

best,
brian kc

I am so glad this thread happened!! I have a 4 1/2 + 9 ft GC3, brand new simonis 860 cloth, I clean it with the Simonis X-1 brush, I have brand new aramith belgian balls, and I vacuum the table. For some reason these black dirt marks keep appearing? I have only had the table 4 months but never thought to clean the pkts. Well guess what, I used two seperate rags that both turned pure black instantly!! YAY, thanks so much, I have no clue why I didn't think of that, apart from I am set up in a garage and thought maybe the dirt was coming down from rafters or something. Not a chance, I just had the dirtiest pkts in the Country:thumbup:

Mike, I understand your frustration, but I really feel Diamond has the pesky problem fixed now, and I'm sure they'll offer up some kind of trade-in value to anyone that wants to change out their older pockets when they are ready to market their new pocket liners, of that I'm sure.

Glen,

You are a gentlemen, scholar and I'm sure a judge of fine wine...and there are a few damn few of us left. I sincerely hope you are right and I look forward to seeing that happen.

Have a great new year and best to you and your's.

Mike

I was gonna say the same thing about the analogy between the replacement tires and the corrected pocket issue- one is a liability/ safety issue that was bound to cause significant and avoidable losses, one is an inconvenience.

Money is the teechur.

Glenn at one time recommended hand sanitizer, that works(I use prior to polishing my balls). I am in for a pocket exchange. Charlie

Has this thread gone dead. Did Diamond ever offer new pockets for purchase?
Did anyone ever find a solution that works on the existing pockets?

Diamond solved that problem quite a while back, and yes they have new pockets for sale and will discount for trade ins.

Easy fix for the black marks from the back of the pocket was to brush on some clear polyurethane on the leather. It work for me.

Diamond Pro Red w/ball return.... that issue disappears over time.... just keep shooting!!

Seriously?

A whole thread complaining about black-balls?

Tread lightly. You are a typo away from death and have been warned.

Wow that's sporty of them to offer a discount for you to fix a problem they created.

I wonder, do you comment on other tables with dyed leather drop pockets leaving black marks on balls...or just Diamonds,...so you can feel important or something. Why don't people like you...show the rest of the world how to do things the right way according to you....or are you incapable of doing that? Talk is always cheap....when you have no answers;)

I spent a long time trying to rub the dye out but to no success, by far worst pockets I have ever seen.

I comment that it's ridiculous for them to do something to fix the problem, thereby acknowledging there was a problem & then expecting people to pay for a solution & try to assuage the situation by saying, "oh we'll give you a discount". They should just make it right, period. That is the right way to do things. As far as the rest of your snarky comments, well Glen you are one that constantly feels a need to make statements to make yourself feel important. That's your track record. Many acknowledge you have mad skills at what you do & that's commendable but as I've already stated you have a deep track record of constantly insulting others, deriding anyone who comments on a situation as if you're the only one knowledgeable enough to provide comment. What you don't have is enough self awareness to realize your overly superior attitude makes you look like a petulant child to most adults. Carry on.

Who quoted who first...you did, therefore starting your BS again, yet blaming your attitude on me....way to be a real adult there buddy:rolleyes:

Next, improvements in the finished leather are not a fix, it's called "improved, better, refined, modified" and every manufacturing business out here does that all the time as to better their product. Now, when you say Diamond "FIXED" their pockets, and should go back 25 years or so and offer free replacement pockets....are you saying that Diamond should just do a recall on abut 100,000 sets of pockets and replace them for free....is that what you're saying? Well, here's a few questions for you like, did the pockets ruin any sets of balls with nails sticking out holding the pockets in? Did the pockets prevent any balls from being made? We're the pockets always coming loose, having to be reattached constantly? Did the pockets snag anyone's pants causing them to get torn? Did the pockets when making a shot over them scratch anyone's cue shaft, or how about leave some pocket plastic on the shaft from rubbing it across the pocket?

See, I fail to understand how you miss the pocket problem from the entire rest of the industry just to focus on a dye problem Diamond has been working on for years trying solve....in order to improve their pockets....why is that? And yet still you feel that Diamond should replace for free, all the past pockets they've ever sent a pool table out with....yet, you don't complain about Brunswick's, Gandys, Olhausens....or anyone else manufacturing pool tables....wow, yeah....YOU da MAN!!!

I'm curious, do you even own a pool table, if so....I bet it's not a Diamond because people like you don't buy tables like Diamonds IMHO;)
