Not really new to the forum, but I finally decided I was going to participate. I joined originally back in 2011 to answer a specific question about a brand of pool table. I hadn't logged in since.
So anyhow, I suppose it's time to introduce myself. I tried to grow up in pool rooms but my dad wouldn't allow it. It's not that he didn't want me in pool rooms, but that he didn't want me around while he was working. When I was a kid he played the game for a living. He actually tried to teach me a couple of times, but I was all of 6 years old and all I wanted was to hang out and have fun with my dad. He got discouraged, and well, that was the end of my trips with him. When I was a teen, he bought me a cue and started taking me out, but I wasn't really interested anymore. Once I graduated high school, my interested peaked, and I started playing a lot more. I worked in a few rooms for a while, and worked as a table mechanic for a couple years as well. In 2001, I blew out my knee and that really set back my ability to play. I fully recovered, but never dedicated the time I did previously. That is until I lost my job this past June. Since then I've been playing much more.
Previously I had always considered myself a C player. It didn't seem to matter how much I played I never seemed to improve. This time around is different somehow. I don't know what it is, but I actually see improvement. I can run a rack now and then, and often put together some solid runs. Even my ability to play safe has improved greatly. It's given me a new desire to play this game more often, and to learn even more.
I currently play with a one of a kind cue I designed that was made by Myron Yoshizawa. I still own my Meucci O1 (oldie series) that I got around 1993. I used to call Shooters in Riverside, CA home, but don't currently have a regular room. I really like Stix in Ontario, but it's a bit of a drive for me right now.
I hope everyone here finds themselves well, and I look forward to conversing with you all.
