Playing with a beard, issues

This may sound trivial and funny to a lot of you but it has been bothering me for considerable time

at certain times of the year or just when I have been lazy I may grow some facial hair. Now when I do and have a little growth when I play sometimes my hair gets caught in my cue. I'm guess at the joint. I hold my chin right close to the cue touching it so Im wondering if this happens to more people ? it has made me uncomfortable and miss several shots.

then i got thinking, there is very little pro players with any facial hair in particular any around the chin...going back a few years i thought of a few but typically there fundamentals were different and not on the cue. then expanded to snooker, again very little if any players have facial hair on the chin.

Is the wide known fact or just coincidence?

I have a fairly long goatee. I sometimes notice my cue rubbing against it, but I've never had it get caught in the joint. Over the years I've known several other people with long chin hair, and none of them have ever had the problem you describe.
 
I fixed the problem by modifying my beard grooming for show and play mode.

I have a pretty full beard and shoot with my chin on the cue also. I don't have any problems with my current cue catching my beard, but I have played with other cues that cause some shockingly painful hair removals. :)

I don't know much about cue repair, but you may want to have someone look at the joint to see if needs to be refaced.

FWIW, Charlie "HillBilly" Bryant has a full beard and shoots with his cue going right through his beard. As many times as I've talked to him, he's never mentioned this as a problem...

I have a beard.. It's kinda long.

My only complaint is that when i play the cue parts it, and most of my shots the cue is touching my chin.
 
There was a famous French Nobleman with the moniker of BlueBeard. After a little research I found he was a pool player. :D

I'm beard-challenged, so I can't relate, but I have experienced chin-burn from playing pool.

Looks like there's an opportunity here for an entrepreneur to make some cash. Maybe some kind of beard-protector, or how about a joint-less cue?

You have to have a tighter joint. And make sure you don't let hair get in the cracks where it shouldn't be. lol

I occasionally have my mustache get caught in there if I let it get too long. Mine is easy just have to keep it a little tighter. I can tell you I feel your pain.
 
Shave in the middle where the cue would rest. This will give you a nice, smooth pocket. Plus, you will have that parting of the Red Sea look going on. LoL.....
 
I have a long white beard which can become "chalk blue tinged" down the center.

My biggest problem is all the ladies who want to "stroke" my beard. When I have had enough I say "be careful there is a set of balls under there".:grin-square:
 
I have a beard and it doesn't bother me at all, but if your eye lashes start touching the cue, you may want to trim it up or get a new "aiming" technique. :) :)

Yes, if the joint is properly faced and flush, there should be no problems. I have a cheap crappy cue that will catch on the hairs whenever I decide to grow a beard. My playing cue causes no problems, however.

There ya' go actionplayer ... get rid of that cheap, crappy cue and your problem will be solved. Either that or screw the crappy one completely together before playing with it. ;)
 
When I read the subject line,,,"issues playing with a beard",,, I thought you meant playing pool with your wife, who you married to hide the fact you are homosexual.

I have a beard and shoot pretty low to my cue, but never did it get caught on something, but I can picture exactly what you are talking about. I think I hate you now since you now made me more aware of the beard to cue contact and that is one more thing that will get in my head when I'm shooting. You're the devil. :angry:
