I like checkerss

But since I don't understand chess, and all the intricacies, I can easily say I don't enjoy chess at all.

I've watched the alex vs scott frost 1p match on youtube.

Why don't they play again!??

They probably will, someday!..It's not normally a cake walk for Alex, like it was last time !..It is a very intense game for both of them!...I believe they got drunk together, the night before they played. Maybe Alex is the better drinker ....Plus, high dollar stakehorses, that will fade that kind of tough action for 20-30K, do not grow on trees ! ;)

PS..I don't think either one of them, likes the game well enough to use their own money, assuming they had it ! :embarrassed2:

My two pennies on op

In the 60s, around Texas, most of us fashioned our OP game after UJ Puckett. He played real well making a ball or two at a time and pushing balls down the table. Then, along came players like Ronnie Allen and San Jose Dick, who would bet the game on a tough bank, just for the opportunity to get another seven balls. We called it "Hurricane one-pocket". Pretty soon people everywhere were playing this exciting form of the game. Now, after being away from the game for a few decades, I return to fine those bumpy, bum two hour one pocket games are back, putting everyone to sleep. Mr. Frost being one of the exceptions.
Oh! Mr. Allen, your legacy is being watered down.
Keep it nice. Alfie

Hey Alfredo, don't be such a stranger !..............And guess who Mr. Frost got a lot of his 'Hurricane one pocket' schoolhousing and training from? :p...The lessons were very expensive though...FOR ME ! :D

I dunno, alf. Look at svb, Appleton, the young pinoys who have won decent 1p events in the last year or so...

They are always looking for the 8/out.

Looks like a good time for the one-pocket haters to circle the wagons....
....you be in enemy territory.

:duck:

It took months to get across the continent using horses.

But it was probably a real adventure, love it or hate it.

Over 4-1 in favor of One Pocket. That tells me something about the folks on here. They know and love this game!

At one time, it was over 7 to 1....The 'hater's' are calling their aunts and grandmothers, (and other seasoned pool players)
to help with the vote !........We should have a poll, on which game is 'least' popular..3 cushion billiards, or straight pool ! (remember them ? :p)

Good idea, Dick. I think I'll cast my vote on Rotation. What a worthwhile, and exciting, endeavor. Whenever I line things up and fire in the old One ball I can hardly wait until I shoot the Two.

I love to play 1p and to watch pros play 1p.
I'm no good at it, but I like it.
I am getting good at leaving the cue in the "armpit" when necesssary.

One pocket simply separates the men from the boys.

I had some APA eight ball guy ask me if I wanted to join their
league last night, and I told him as long as it was a one pocket league
I would, anything else would have no interest from me what so ever.

He looked at me like I was from another planet.

To me one pocket is a game played by older former 9-ball players that can't make the tough shots anymore. Since I can't shoot anymore let me try to out maneuver you is the general idea. At SBE the average age of the one pocket players was double that of the 10-ball. This is the reason.

If I want to play chess. I play chess. When I want to see athletes playing pool where they have to fire the balls in I watch 10-ball or 9-ball or better yet rotation. I liked bonus ball for this very same reason. In bonus ball sooner or later you've got to make tough shots you can't bunt forever. Time to make a bank or do something tough. To me one pocket is a game of attrition.

Yes, I agree that one pocket is the action game as it levels the playing field. I don't want the playing field leveled. I want the best shooter to win.

lol

You mean "older former 9-ball players" like all the pros in the world, right?

You should probably play pool for a few weeks before pontificating about which games are easy.

Most of this is subject to debate or personal opinion, but that last part is crazy. How does 1P "level" the field? A lesser player really *cannot* beat a better player at 1P. Maybe a fluke game out of 20, but not even in a race to 2. I think that's part of why people like the game so much.

Cory, I think Mr. dnschmidt was wrong on several counts, one being the notion that One Pocket is a game for retirees. It isn't. All of the best players in the world, both men and women, play the game.
In addition, the best way to level the field in OP is by giving weight. Give too much and the lesser player can clean your clock. Give too little and he'll walk out of the pool room and never come back.
Pool players love One Pocket because the game has all of the elements that make pool play challenging, rewarding, and yes, exciting. Hell's bells, every time I go eight and out I feel like I've just had sex with a girl I once new in Schenectady.
Great town, Schenectady.

I like the game and the very strategical thinking behind it.

I hate that I can't fully grasp and deliver those thoughts into a shot.
