I've watched the alex vs scott frost 1p match on youtube.
Why don't they play again!??
In the 60s, around Texas, most of us fashioned our OP game after UJ Puckett. He played real well making a ball or two at a time and pushing balls down the table. Then, along came players like Ronnie Allen and San Jose Dick, who would bet the game on a tough bank, just for the opportunity to get another seven balls. We called it "Hurricane one-pocket". Pretty soon people everywhere were playing this exciting form of the game. Now, after being away from the game for a few decades, I return to fine those bumpy, bump two hour one pocket games are back, putting everyone to sleep. Mr. Frost being one of the exceptions...Oh! Mr. Allen, your legacy is being watered down.
Keep it nice. Alfie

Looks like a good time for the one-pocket haters to circle the wagons....
....you be in enemy territory.
:duck:
At one time, it was over 7 to 1....The 'hater's' are calling their aunts and grandmothers, (and other seasoned pool players)
to help with the vote !........We should have a poll, on which game is 'least' popular..3 cushion billiards, or straight pool ! (remember them ?)
lolTo me one pocket is a game played by older former 9-ball players that can't make the tough shots anymore.
To me one pocket is a game played by older former 9-ball players that can't make the tough shots anymore. Since I can't shoot anymore let me try to out maneuver you is the general idea. At SBE the average age of the one pocket players was double that of the 10-ball. This is the reason.
If I want to play chess. I play chess. When I want to see athletes playing pool where they have to fire the balls in I watch 10-ball or 9-ball or better yet rotation. I liked bonus ball for this very same reason. In bonus ball sooner or later you've got to make tough shots you can't bunt forever. Time to make a bank or do something tough. To me one pocket is a game of attrition.
Yes, I agree that one pocket is the action game as it levels the playing field. I don't want the playing field leveled. I want the best shooter to win.
Most of this is subject to debate or personal opinion, but that last part is crazy. How does 1P "level" the field? A lesser player really *cannot* beat a better player at 1P. Maybe a fluke game out of 20, but not even in a race to 2. I think that's part of why people like the game so much.

It's pace of play makes it unwatchable - much like virtually all other pool games.
