This past Wed night I was playing in a competitive practice session with about 20 guys.

Afterward, one of the guys (a friend) comes over to me and starts taking the lid off of a brown centennial case, saying "I have something to show you"..

He pulls out a 1984 Gus true hoppe bumperless 4 pointer with linen wrap. :)

Ivory sleeve and points with blue veneers. :thumbup::thumbup:

He said Barry brought it to him at SBE and even gave him the build sheet from Gus' book for this cue.

He let me hit some balls with it and it was one of the best hitting cues ever. The cue pinged like a banshee with brilliant feedback. I loved it!

It doesn't always go this way with hitting old masters cues. Often, it's more about the collectibility than the hit. This one had both!!

Just wanted to share a great moment.

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that ping.... :yeah:

Sounds like the one Poolrod had for a while....theres about 6,000 pictures of it in the cue gallery....lmao
 
Never happened...it's a good story though.

lol and the best is when he would title a thread 'Franklin SouthWest"..... and im saying "ooo finally another cue besides his Gus" ...and there's the Gus photo bombing it along side the SW....lol

There is a good chance that is my wife's old cue. The date is about right and the description is correct without the bumper. I actually remember the conversation with Gus of why he wanted to put on a bumper and I didn't want one. I think I have a picture of it around here somewhere. You mention the ping. It really pinged I think due to no bumper. I had other rambow cues that did that and when I added a bumper it went away.

I found some pictures but not of the cue. The first picture is my wife and Mr & Mrs Szamboti. You can see the box in her arms with her new cue.
The second picture is my wife taking the first shot with her new cue on Gus's table. That is Gus in the back ground.
The third picture is my wife with Gus at one of his lathes as he poses like he is working.

My wife by the way flew up to pick up her cue in person from Mr Szamboti. He made it for us kind of quickly as he owed me a favor. I should mention, in the first picture what they are all looking down at is Mr Szambiti's dog.

I am sorry I removed the pictures because my wife is in them. I had second thoughts about posting something personal
