Darren Forfeits Beloit

Jpowell called the hotel and changed the wake up call so he could get third in the az calcutta. He moves good son! That being said I have been guilty of this couple of times at White Diamond buying a player and they over sleep or get forfeited. That is the chance you take when you buy someone and Daz owes no one anything. That is part of gambling your guy no shows you eat the loss and even though it sucks nothing you can do about it.

Meh, I think most of us have pulled 15 hour days before. It's not too far fetched an idea. Especially when you only have to work a couple days a week and not showing up the next day could cost you $14,000.

Agreed. I was thinking of some of the guys I've worked for in my life and having to tell them I slept my start time for any reason short of death.

I have never in my life seen a bunch of people rip somebody apart like this for accidentally sleeping late. It is quite obvious Darren didn't do it deliberately, but on AzBilliards, Darren is a real bad guy. Let's continue to rip him a new one. Only on AzBilliards.

Jen,

I hesitantly agree with you about the piling on. I hesitate because of the conversation I had on AZ last week with Darren about professionalism in the pool world. Completely agree this was an accident. Albeit one that never should have occurred. Think it's why they call it an accident in the first place. If I hold Darren to a higher standard because of his incredible abilities then must I hold him to the same standard in his personal life? Guess only he can answer that question.

There are some tourneys/tours that if a player forfeits they are barred from that event or another event on the tour until they repay the calcutta bid.

I think the difference the gambling argument guys are missing is that the calcutta was done under the auspices of the tournament and is not a private bet between two individuals.

There's also the issue of him not making it into the ring because of his own fault. A bit different than getting beat.

He came out basicly right after he lost at the expo with many of complaints ,, not enough money , to many Amatures , no streaming its a trade show not a profesional tournament blah blah blah
Then he's in a pretty good paying Turny with basicly no Amatures and its being streamed
And he does not make it to the gate , so not only does the guy who has him in the Calcutta not get even a chance at sweating the match the spectators there and people who paid money to watch get robbed of that also
Yes mistakes happen , you make a mistake stand up admit your wrong take it on the chin
Everyone forgives you and applauds your Profesional way of handling it
That way you don't have to have your huggers and self appointed spokesperson making excuses ..

It's really not that hard to understand

One,

Don't understand your post. What does it have to do with my agreeing with JAM regarding her piling on statement? Darren did a dumb thing and I agree. It was an accident. Do you think it was intentional? My conversation with Darren was in regard to some of the points you made. Please, just a clarification.

tournament time

Why would the Tourney start the next morning at 10:00 A.M. when it didn't finish the night before until 1 or 3? I understand big tourney's with a lot of players but this was 4 people left.

I am not giving Darren a pass by any means, but the start time is confusing to me. I know I would not have been up at 10 to watch the stream on a Sunday anyways.

I'm familiar with an incident in which a player who went highest in the Calcutta became distracted by an attractive young lady and forfeited. Some people suspected at the time the young lady was employed by someone else to "distract" the pool player.

This is true and i agree
It was a fantastic event some of the best 8 ball i have ever seen with world class players.
Everybody did a great job the stream the players the venue all top notch
The one flaw might have been the times set for the matches there seemed to be plenty of
down time between matches with four hours between start times that they could have stated like noon..
I think 10am cst is just to early to start thats 8 am for west coast just to early for people
to get up and watch on the stream that might mean less potential viewers hopefully next time they will have a better idea of best time for matches.

Thanks, Terry

Pool is a night time game.....how are the players going to get a round of golf in before their matches? LoL

I wish I had a job that started at noon. lol

But, I guess working until 3am evens things out. :)

What I'm pointing out is the piling on never happens if he does the profesional thing after he slept in,, which he didn't
I guess we can debate what that would be , I dont think a show up and apology to the TD the room owner and the poor soul who had thousands riding on you is to much to expect
Do you think this thread would have taken off like it has if he did that

Let's keep the facts clear. Darren's match with Jesse Bowman ended at 12:38am, and the next match was scheduled for 10:00am. 9 hours and 22 minutes later. Is this a little tight? Perhaps. But to begin shifting the blame to the tournament director or staff -something being done by several other posters- is very unfair.

The fact is, Dave Coles -along with his staff- organizes, hosts, and runs this tournament while adding $4,000 to the purse without taking 1 single penny in tournament or greens fees. In addition, he does not take a single penny from the calcutta.

Dave's business model is simple, invite the best players, add some money, drum up some excitement with a killer calcutta, and hopefully sell enough burgers and beer to try and break even or, luck willing, make a few bucks. We need MORE people like Dave in this business.

The fact is, the tournament times were all scheduled in advance on Friday night. Everyone knew that the 4 remaining players on the B side of the bracket would be starting their final Saturday matches at 10:00pm. Both Darren and Skyler (who also played at 10:00pm Saturday) both knew this before the tournament even began. This was not a situation where the TD wanted to try and fit another round in order to expedite the event. This was all scheduled and planned out well in advance.

Now that's really interesting....do they really do that kind of thing? I guess that can throw a player off....lol...or give him incentives to win.

That is the rumor. Same player was later banned after winning a tournament when he literally stole the Calcutta money from the guy who bought him in the auction and ran out the door with the cash.

This is what DAZ posted on Facebook: " ..........I over slept for my match which was scheduled at 10am. It's not my opponents fault or his backer .. I apologize to the pool room and paying viewers on the stream and the guy that buy me in the Calcutta. ..................."

That apology and $3.25 will buy the guy who is out $2450.00 a skinny vanilla latte at Starbucks.
