Darren Forfeits Beloit

Nope...this certainly wasn't the best bet I've ever made (thankfully). I'm sure I'll laugh about it at some point.

BTW...while I won't be rooting for him anytime soon, I honestly don't wish Darren any ill will...his chosen vocation and the life attached is hard enough as it is.

I like your style.

Tough break.

best,
brian kc

Wasn't Appleton just whining about how SBE tournament was non professional? ?
Karma
Try working 60 hour weeks in a physically demanding job and try to tell us you are a professional. Unreal.

Try working 10am until 1am then back to work at 10am the next day. Thanks.

Yes, Cleary...it certainly is !..I think people who make such senseless comments should be shot, or maybe hung!
..Or at a minimum, a lifetime ban, including any children they may have ! :bash:

It shows they obviously did not even 'scan' the thread to see what was going on, before blurting out their ignorant reply and wasting our valuable time ! :(..Sadly tho, this would include about half the poster's on this site !

Meh, I think most of us have pulled 15 hour days before. It's not too far fetched an idea. Especially when you only have to work a couple days a week and not showing up the next day could cost you $14,000.

Lol! I have 2 full time jobs;) I'm out to work at 7am and back in the house at 10-11pm 5 days a week! The other 2 days is a normal 10 hr day:) Today is my short 10hr day! That means I get to play some tonight for a few hrs:):):)

No offense, but someone telling me about working long hrs,,,,,, not a good idea! BUT, if you're on a 2-3 day marathon,,,, that's different! Been there done that!

I have a question. The op mentioned Appleton didn't buy himself or split the Calcutta. Are players under some obligation to do that?

No, but some people feel there is still an obligation to pay the player even if they didn't split.

Nope, the only unwritten obligation (I call it good business) is if the buyer get's it all and player cashes, they often (depending on the person of course) give 10% as the baseline, and it can go either way, zero included.

WTF do you think I'm talking about ,, and your right it is getting dumber with anyone who thinks its to much to ask a pro pool player to show up and say I'm sorry to the turny director and those who lost thousands when he couldn't make it to the starting gate
This on the heals of his posts bashing the SBX

So I asked a guestion and since you seemed to be his spokesperson ,, I'll ask again did he show up and apologize or did he mail it in when he asked to have his check mailed

And let's not forget daz ain't the swiftest of players either...

The pool community will see the value in speeding the hell up one day, I'm sure.

And especially when the 15 hours is mostly composed of sitting and waiting.

Zero should be the baseline. I have seen players approach whoever got them in the calcutta after winning a tournament expecting a cut, which is absolutely ridiculous. If the calcutta winner wants to come find you and give you a bit of their winnings as a form of gratuity, that's one thing, but it's terrible form for a player to expect it.

It's just sad they're going to stone the man to death for oversleeping as if he were at the bar all night. If he were out doing hood rat shit, then I get it but he was playing in the tournament! lol

Sorry, but I beg to differ with you Tex. I will agree that Darren does not "owe" anyone anything. But that does not mean he doesn't have any moral responsibility to make things right with them in some way. Just to say "I'm Sorry" doesn't really cut it here.

Among real gamblers there is a moral code, that allows them to loan money on a hand shake. Their word is their bond! And they know when they are wrong and need to do something to right it. In this instance Darren pretty obviously screwed up and it was potentially very costly to someone else besides just himself. This is not about a missed ball or anything like that, so please save that conversation for someone else. Missing a match is very different than missing a ball! Plus Darren was already guaranteed money back in the tournament, so he didn't come up empty, like the guys who bought him in the Calcutta. He was in position to offer them something.

The OP is a class act who doesn't whine about his losses and I respect him for that. Is he happy about what happened? Obviously not. He feels let down by Darren and well he should. Will Darren reach out to him I don't know. It's on his conscience, that's for sure. Stuff like this you don't just sweep under the rug and say tough luck. If you're a man you try to make it right somehow. And that somehow should include more than just an apology.

I know Darren will read this and be unhappy with me because I'm not the one involved. But if he (or anyone else) asked me what I think I will tell them. And I did right here!

100% correct

I'm not his spokesperson... I'm just more intelligent than you. Darren, like all of the other players, show up to play a tournament and who bet on him or against him is irrelevant to him. He's not involved in that... he came to win a tournament and he's pretty upset that he let himself down. The only person he needs to apologize to is himself.

This makes no sense to me. Why should any player make up anything to someone who bets on them? Players get nothing when a side better wins on them why should they be forced to feel obligated to cover a loss?

Players like to play both side if this fence.
They don't come out of pocket to buy half themselves in a Calcutta,
just in case they don't place but they are more then willing/expect a nice size toke
when the Calcutta money is paid out

Good grief ?????..This post, (and #131 again :o)..are perfect example's of my complaint, in post #123

Allow me to explain. I never buy myself in the Calcutta but on occasion when the person who bought me asked if I wanted half and I declined, that person wasn't happy and I got the impression I was violating an unwritten local rule.

Therefore I wondered if it is like 8 ball rules, different places have different "rules".

One funny story, at least I found it to be funny. I was out of town playing in a tournament and nobody in the place knew me except for the tournament director who used to live near St Louis. He announced me in the Calcutta as "Out of St Louis, Missouri, Al ...." as if I was a good player. The local yokels starting a bidding war on me and I went high in the Calcutta. The guy who "won" me asked me if I wanted half and I said no and he was a little upset. Then I told him I'm not a very good player and he was really upset. Then I went 2 and out in the tournament and the poor guy almost had a heart attack. I did give him the opportunity to win back his lost Calcutta money but since we have already established I'm not a very good player I needed weight.
