why are the british the best in the world?

I'm not just talking about snooker here. You name it, E8B, A8B, C8B, 9 ball, 10 ball, billiards, snooker...we smash the lot.

Why?

Your words, you undermined your whole trolling existence.

Until your boys leave their small pond of snooker, and try their hand at the "parlor games" you have nothing to say.

BTW it is clear you are clueless.

Tally Ho!!

Name me all the nations that have world champions in all those disciplines.

1. Britain.
2. Er
3. That's it.

Now, why is that? Try to get over your hurt pride and answer the question.

So what British 3 cushion, bank, or one pocket champion do you play homage too?

Don't be ashamed, just say it.

They are all the same game, which is a concept I've noticed americans struggle with before.

We've smashed the lot mate. No other nation comes close. Now that's been established, I'm looking for reasons why.

What's your theory on why we've produced more great cueists than every other nation combined? I guess in football terms, we are the brasil of cue sports.

All the same game? More great cueist than every nation combined?
Wow. Thanks for setting me straight Ronald. I've been living a lie.

That's a lazy analogy and wide of the mark. Participation and success aren't always linked. Nobody in the States plays football (soccer) and yet they're ranked higher than half of the UK.

It's also not fair to say nobody can touch the US at any american sports. Take Ice Hockey as it's one of the few to feature in the Olympics (baseball World Series with only american teams? Ha! Calling the Superbowl winners World Champs? Oh dear...) and the UK has won half as many gold medals as the US.

You're right, participation and success are not always linked, but they ARE intimately related without a doubt. If we don't play snooker, we certainly won't be the best.
If you don't play volleyball, how could you be the best? You can't .

And just so you know, there are just under 15 million soccer players in the u.s.
Which is 15 million more than nobody.

Wow, thanks Captain Literal. Perhaps I should have said few (around 4% I reckon), but the point I was making - that seems to have sailed right over your head - was that same as you made in your post.

Strange world we live in where people feel the need to argue with others while making the same point as them.

That's Tony. He has trophies for it.

Ron, facts are stubborn things.

Snooker yes, pool no. DAZ opened my eyes to Brits and potential for pool. He is truly a world champion pool player. After him, not too much championship depth there. Makes sense that the best players would play snooker because it pays.

Given we only have a few hundred semi serious american pool players, I'd say having a handful of players capable of winning any pro tournament they enter is impressive.

What about Potts? Best in the world in one discipline, then moves halfway around the world to become the best in another. Plenty more behind Potts, too.

Point is, british players have shown versatility where players from other nations have not.

Cue sports are fractured and diffuse. If there was one single game, played by every nation in the world, all the evidence suggests the british would dominate completely.

I would. You might actually win that one.

I'd win both. You have no chance. Period. If our family takes our regular trip to The Highlands this year I'll be happy to come take time off from our holiday, come to the irrelevant cesspool of a "country" you praise and prove it.

If you are of british descent, and can play a bit, you've proven my point. If neither is true, regular visits to these fair isles may help, but is no guarantee.

First off, no American born Scott would ever consider themselves "of British descent". Second, I'm an American by birth so national linage prior to my family leaving the realm of the old whore means $#!+ and is an example of equivocation on your part at best. Third the challenge still stands.

The same reason all the best football (American) players are from the US. Its played here and for the most part isn't played anywhere else.... sorry Canada.

Scott? Anyway, if you are in the auld country next month, give me a shout as I'll be there too. It'll also very likely be the last time I'll ever play, but i can match you up with no end of local players if you fancy your chances.

I'd still bet on your chances of being john barton if i were you. Americans certainly have great plastic surgeons, so being a big fat loudmouth with Barton's face shouldn't be difficult for you to pull off.

the game is more rooted in their culture. Even people who don't play do know the game.

One of the very large issues here in the US. We have to many games, to many table sizes etc.......

The general population of the 60-70s actually watched straight pool, regardless if they even played the game. They understood it because it is what they all played.

The old saying, the billiards industry keeps shooting itself in the foot, while a single game known as snooker and a single regulated table size still thrives.

Out of the 4 WPA World 10 Ball events, only one was won by a Brit.

Out of the 24 WPA World 9 Ball events, only two were won by Brits.

Out of the 38 US Open events, only one Brit has ever won (back to back)

So that's 5 wins in 66 events for the Brits. I guess over there, 8% is good enough to be called the best.

I believe he is talking about snooker.
