Genuine Concern Over AzB

I think your suspicion might be correct, Brian. I don't come on here very often anymore. I had a little free time this morning, so just out of curiosity I logged on and found this thread first thing. But normally, my time is spent on Facebook these days. I fought the FB thing for a long time, but now, I don't think I could function very well without it. If you're into pool, there are many, many pros on FB these days, and that is where you can learn about what they are doing in both their personal and professional lives. There are also many, many industry related pages where you can find anything and everything you want to find. Also, there are many, many "groups" that discuss things related to their special interests every day. It's even where you will find the owners of AZB, almost every day, discussing things that they won't discuss here

So, yes, I believe Facebook has had a huge, negative impact on AZB.

Seeing that you put it that way Roger. Makes more sense.

I guess that I would have to say, Face Book not so much. I do spend hours on UTube.

It is like what you found on Face Book to be for yourself. There is absolutely nothing that one can't find on UTube.

I usually have one to several UTube documentaries up and running on my Tool Bar.

I just flip back and forth thru them.

It seems to have been like that every since I started here though as compared to the other forums I have visited in the past. I have oft said that the administration needs to be careful about putting people on forced vacations. The characters are what make this joint interesting.

As to the pros, too many of them are obnoxious in how they present themselves and care only about self promotion and back-handing anyone who challenges them. Sometimes the guy who can't run three balls is smarter than the guy who can run 200.

It is spring.

Fans are watching the World Snooker Championship - final today and tomorrow.

There have been times recently when the site was extremely slow making posting a real pain.
 
Its not as enjoyable recently.

There were always conflicts, but they didn't always overwhelm the forum. And there were indeed more interactions here.

There is an underlying "bad vibe" lately. Its a shame. I still stop in, but far less frequently. The extreme negativity that is permitted to continue is the culprit. When all there is left is conflict, there isn't much room for anything else.
 
Besides all the other reasons given, I think some of the personal feuds have fizzled.
At least temporally. :)

I have to agree unless it is due to some natural voyeuristic nature humans have. It is what triggers much of what you see on TV regarding reality shows. People want to peep in someone window.

I know nothing about facebook. I just recently realized I even had one, I don't remember signing up. Having said that I just googled facebook pool players. There is so much there to go through I can easily see if I get in the habit of checking it out or following a few, never coming here again.

Not because there is nothing here but you only have so much time to be spending on the net reading this stuff. As they say "Out of sight out of mind" you will just be gone from here.

I think we are all of the illusion this sight is more then it is. I mention AZ Billiards all the time to people when we are discussing something that maybe was talked about on here. It is rare when someone has heard of it.

As big as AZ is, or we believe it is, in the vast world of people playing pool out there it does not even move the needle.
I have to be even more brutally honest. After checking out facebook and coming back here to make this post. I can't wait to leave now and spend some time exploring what I have just discovered.

Most forums are a blend of discussion, information, and argumentation. The latter (argumentation) generally takes the form of (a) logic + experienced insights + passion or (b) pitiable OCD compulsion-to-win, mixed with self-indulgent smarmy, snarky jabs. But all of these take a bit more time to type than is normally within the capacity of today's inarguably decreasing attention spans and concrete expression of thoughts in more than 140 characters, and so . . .

. . . what can't be discounted is the way that *all* the new social media (beyond simply Facebook) -- media such as Twitter, Instagram, etc. are obviously more appealing and satisfying to some of the argumentation types, and with the bonus of racy gossip and anonymously-shielded slander/libel which instantly snowballs and is either encouraged bandwagon-style or ineptly defended by the target of the slanderous/libelous comments. Instant worldwide heat and action for lonely keyboard warriors (and often simply paid political operatives with an agenda, as well as flacks for film and music studios).

For my money there's still no better source of experience-based informational gems and creative insights (and friendly encouragement to all levels of skill) relating to billiards than AZB.

That doesn't stand for f..k billiards, does it? I hope not.

Remember, not all knowledge is under one roof. I strive to share with as many players as possible, so this requires a lot of flexibility. Without an open mind to new ideas, beliefs and techniques there is little hope for improvement. This is just a fact of life, and it's none of my business who accepts or rejects what we have to offer. Very simple to understand..... The lack of respect here has grown 10 fold over the last couple years. So many people sitting behind there keyboards stating how tough they are, how great they play, how your aiming system sucks, how this or that....

And...

The for sale section has been taken over by 5 people selling 3000 cues apiece. Someone selling one item is lost in the mix....

I don't think azb will return to something positive until the actions of people here change.
