Wrist action v. no wrist action, elbow drop v. no elbow drop, CTE v. Ghostball. IT DOESNT MATTER. The pool and billiards community has a terrible habit of glorifying and searching for instant gratification fixes to the game. "Oh you need to play with a steel joint" "Wood joints are the best" "I aim with the table lights!". Whether its a touch of inside, outside, or downside. NOTHING replaces quality practice of any system. Shane, Ko(and his brother), Earl, Johnny, Orcollo, Alex the Lion, Scott Frost, Manny Chau, Charlie Bryant and every other straight shootin good playin mofo all hit thousands of balls to get to the peak of their game. Whether its gambling, competition or structured practice, there is not replacement for the three. No cue, stroke action, or aiming system can turn you into a champion, but you can use any one of them to get you to a certain level as long as you stick with it! Some players get to a level where they can play with a broom handle. Its when a player gets to this level that it its AUTOMATIC.
If you remodel and move your furniture every week, you are probably going to bang your knees up, fall face first and wake up the family. Whatever you do that is somewhat orthodox (hopefully) is the right way for you to do it as long as you keep doing it.
I recently had to change my stance because it was causing bad back pain. My stance used to be much more open (not squared up to the line of the shot). I have recently squared up which has changed a lot of things in my game and caused a setback, although a necessary one. Reasons like this or unorthodox form should be the only catalyst for change in your game.
