Wrist action v. no wrist action, elbow drop v. no elbow drop, CTE v. Ghostball. IT DOESNT MATTER. The pool and billiards community has a terrible habit of glorifying and searching for instant gratification fixes to the game. "Oh you need to play with a steel joint" "Wood joints are the best" "I aim with the table lights!". Whether its a touch of inside, outside, or downside. NOTHING replaces quality practice of any system. Shane, Ko(and his brother), Earl, Johnny, Orcollo, Alex the Lion, Scott Frost, Manny Chau, Charlie Bryant and every other straight shootin good playin mofo all hit thousands of balls to get to the peak of their game. Whether its gambling, competition or structured practice, there is not replacement for the three. No cue, stroke action, or aiming system can turn you into a champion, but you can use any one of them to get you to a certain level as long as you stick with it! Some players get to a level where they can play with a broom handle. Its when a player gets to this level that it its AUTOMATIC.

If you remodel and move your furniture every week, you are probably going to bang your knees up, fall face first and wake up the family. Whatever you do that is somewhat orthodox (hopefully) is the right way for you to do it as long as you keep doing it.

I recently had to change my stance because it was causing bad back pain. My stance used to be much more open (not squared up to the line of the shot). I have recently squared up which has changed a lot of things in my game and caused a setback, although a necessary one. Reasons like this or unorthodox form should be the only catalyst for change in your game.

I'm also referring to the people who sit at home all day watching Shane, thinking that they will just become him if they do everything he does.

It really is sad! Right now is that age of easy access to information. Its pretty easy t go on YouTube and try and teach yourself fundamentals, but getting somebody to go out of their way to teach you? Now thats gonna cost you. Part of the problem with the state of pool right now isn't necessarily greed like some people think it is. Its that because there is such a small amount of money in it everyone looks for as many ways as they can to make money. On the other hand there are a some who don't have a vision for the sport at all and if you ask them for a pointer in person they say $50 an hour.

4.5 hours into a practice sesh at the local hall... Skimmed this post and I concur. Now then... Back to the table!

If I am understanding what you are saying, you see it is golf all the time. They have a bad tournament and all of a sudden everything they are doing is wrong. How about all those times they played great? I think it is more an irrational loss of confidence.

I look at it this way. I know there is no magic bullet when it comes to pool, there is no substitute for practice and competition. But if the masses wish to purchase every "magic fix" that comes down the pike, it only adds funds to an industry that sorely needs it. Golf, fishing, eft...all sell the latest "cure all", it just infuses the billiards industry and helps the sport grow.
