Hustlers Week 2: Episodes 3 & 4 Thread

I can't believe there are some here, like the lone silencers post above that still want to nit pick every detail about what's real & not. It's clear that the list isn't the 5 best players in NY, many other things also, it's also irrelevant.

But it is slick production, enough to grab the attention of non players, it also portrays the subliminal message that you can be young, old, black, white, foreign born, male, female, pro level or stone beginner like that loudmouth Amy that got her first cue last night. That everyone can play, thereby making it appealing to those who DON'T currently play, to maybe get them interested in playing, thereby bolstering this sport. I wish it much success.

Well i can say this..

Because of this show there is one more person actually interested in playing pool...

My friend called me up to ask if i wanted to go shoot some pool with him. He told me he seen the show on Trutv and has always kinda been interested in playing. I met him at the pool hall and we shot for a while and he is even thinking about getting a cue.

What the Colonel says above is spot on, imo.

Sure there's plenty of cheesiness and inaccuracies noticeable to those of us who are 'in the know' but we are hopefully a huge minority of who will be tuning in.

If this show can hook some viewers and cause them to go to a pool room or pro shop or maybe attend a tourney then it's a very good thing.

For me, thus far, Mike Dechaine and Scotty have the best on camera personas. Finnegan is pretty good, too, and Gary did a complete 180 from his very unlikeable character in the 1st episodes to now where he's trying to get his emotions under control including a trip to tyhe yoga class with his wife. Great character development!

Still waiting to get to see some more from Mikey. He could be the dark horse!

Keep reeling 'em in, Hustlers.

best,
brian kc

Great post, and right on IMO. Johnnyt

Episode 3 was cool. Matches had flow and no obviously staged shots

Episode 4 the Amy vs Duddy hill hill match Duddy banks 4 and cue ball scratches. They cut away and she's back running out table for the win. Is she so bad she can't win without the editors help.

Perhaps I was a bit too critical with the pocket close ups, but, if the show gives the nonplayer the desire to pick up the game then that's a plus in my book

I watched the first half hour of episode 3 & just stopped. Besides the piss poor editing job of that match on the Diamond, the match itself was staged.

The guy who lost to Gary is a strong player & missed a bunch of those shots on purpose. The match took place at a pool hall on Long Island on a night of a big tournament actually.

The guy who you see in the match was in it & got knocked out the first round & then went over to be put into that match. The match you see playing next to them actually was a tournament match which the filming got in the way of which was complete bs considering it was a super tournament night with real big money up for grabs.

Oh & for the record he is not the house guy their either. This show is an insult to those in the know of the tri-state area pool scene.

THANK GOD we have someone who is in the know such as yourself. Please let us know when your reality show is coming out.

Parts of episode 4 took place in Scott Simonetti's homeroom at Castle Billiards in East Rutherford NJ.

Yeah....I saw that too. Looked like a few Gold Crown pocket closeups snuck in there even though the match was on a Diamond. Not a big deal though. Overall I enjoyed both episodes a lot and will continue watching it.

Folks that are on Facebook should consider visiting Tru TV and Pilgrim Studios pages and post some positive comments about the show on the clips they have posted on there. They NEED to hear from people who play pool and like the shows....not just from the usual trollbots that have commented on the clips. So far they aren't getting much in the way of comments good or bad over the last two weeks.

OK NYC people what poolhalls did they visit other than Steinway in episode 3 and 4?

I'm enjoying the heck out of this show so far and already looking forward to next week's episodes. My g/f likes it too and for the record she can't stand Ross's g/f Amy, especially the part where Ross is buying her gear and she says she doesn't care what his opinion is on anything. How rude was that remark?

I don't really see the same light you do , you have supposedly the top player In NYC and he has to have a full time job and lives in lets just say a less than eye pleasing apartment
Hes playing sets a has to have a backer to play them

I seriously must be missing something if that's appealing to the non player ,in fact if my kid is watching I point this out as to why you better stay in school

He may be a strong player but what are the odds that he is a strong actor? His look and demeanor clearly showed he wanted to win that match. With cameras filming what pool player would want to dump? Was he getting paid? Not a chance.

And those scratches were world class if he did them on purpose. Again, not a chance. He clearly can play but on that night, as you stated, he got knocked out of the tournament early, he was off. When Gary asked him "when do the good pool players get here" at the direction of Finnegan, he was rattled.

Your side of the story reads like a cover up for what was a really a loss in front of rolling cameras.

Absolutely any player would want to win with a reality show being filmed.

Also the show is super highlighting the spot/handicap aspect of pool. When Amy gets the crazy spot of Emily having to bank four balls before making the 8, I'm sure a light went off on any viewer who was nervous to step into a match with a more experienced player.

The spot had never been a topic of discussion on televised pool before because it's always been professionals playing professionals. This opens up the game to not just a whole new set of potential players, but an even bigger new set of potential viewers.

Funny thing is...... Your the 1st to come up with that view that I've heard. I guess if your negative enough you can find something wrong with anything.
I've never heard them say he played world class like when they mention Mike Dechaine
Try promoting the game instead making up shit

It's a reality series and their doing a good job of making it real showing veiwers pools a game of no money even if your good you basicly have nothing ,can't get much more
real than that
Sorry if the truth hurts but it is what it is

Duddy didn't win last game. She banks the 4 and scratches. Then she's running a few balls and 8 to win.

The scratch is ball in hand for the redhead and the banked ball don't count towards the 4 she needs. It's painfully obvious that her sets episode one and 4 are make believe. Top female player...Ok and I'm the king of England.

No one cares about that...... Well maybe like 3 people
It's a reality show not the Superbowl

She will embarrass you....I heard you fold like origami when people are watching you....letss see how you do when it an entire ****ing country is.

It shows that pool is his hobby and he has a job. It's a good thing . We wouldn't want people quitting their jobs because they play good.
Pools a game at this point and what he has is a nice wife and a good game and a job
I'd say that's having quite a bit
