Please recommend a builder for this cue

I don't know if this kind of design is in Leon Sly's wheelhouse, but I recommend him for a great playing cue and a nice dude. If he's in your town, all the more reason in my opinion.

I'd go with Leon. He makes a nice cue!

If you want it cheap, call up our buddies at Schmelke

Sly cues that I've tried have the old school dead hit. This means little feedback to the hand and not much sound, which is what the op is looking for it seems.

This is what some people like and not a knock on leon.

Barking4action is selling a similar looking cue made by Steve Lomax I think. Shoot jesse a message.

Did you come to a decision?

Joss has a reputation for lively and hardhitting cues, and my Joss is much livelier and crisper than my Frey, which is why I suggested you consider the Joss. I certainly can understand why you might prefer a smaller builder given the amount of money you are spending.

Did you ever find out anything about Capone, who someone recommended? Sounds interesting, but there isn't much on him except for one thread on a snakewood cue.

I have contacted 7 cuemakers asking for their thoughts and quotes. Still waiting back on answers from several of them, so I have yet to make a decision.

The way this cue appears, points and boxes with veneer(s), stacked points, etc... You'd be hard pressed to find anyone of quality to make this cue for under 2k... You'll probably be in the 2.5k range at the lowest. Besides Andy G., I'd check with Bob Dzuricki. Not sure if he's accepting new orders now but he'd be one worth the wait as well...

I just put together an idea for a cue, and am curious as to who you would recommend the builder be.

Also, please understand this drawing was done in Microsoft Powerpoint, and is not the best, so not critics please, you get the idea of what I am going for.
6 point cue, 3 high, 3 low
3 boxes in butt sleeve
darkest wood is Rosewood, points and handle are Bocote, all rings and veneers are maple, and celtic cross inlay, buttcap and joint are white (non-ivory... preferably white phenolic, elphoryn, Juma, etc)

Looks close to my DanBuilt (Dishaw). He's in the NE as well.

You should contact QB custom cues talk to Qball ( Ken ) . They are making me a cue, I contacted several cue makers and Qball is the only one that would work with me on price, design, and even a payment plan. And also Scott Frost plays with their cues can't go wrong with that.

I would also include Ernie Martinez and Cory Barnhart as possible options. Both excellent! I also agree w/Rick Howard.

Chris Nitti also has excellent customer service and communication.

Not to mention his work is OUTSTANDING.

Ariel Carmeli (714) 356-2641

Edit: Nitti is a great suggestion also, great work and great guy to deal with along with being on the reasonable priced side.

I can't imagine any of the competent makers who couldn't do this.
Seems pretty straight forward.

If you want wood from really good and old wood stock then the first one on my list would be Richard Black.

He loves new challenges.

Thanks Jesse, I am thinking about it being my present to myself for going back to school. I think it would be a very nice graduation present to myself LOL.

I am debating on Sly (lives in same town as me), Robert Harris, and Mike Stacey, but want to make sure I am not leaving anyone out of consideration.

I thought about Olney as a possibility too, but when I talked to him, he said his wait list is like 6 years...

I have Mike Stacey making me a cue right now 6 point 3 high 3 low. 3 veneers a piece. There is gonna be one long butterfly point at the bottom near the butt with 3 veneers as well. My choice of wood was rosewood. I just made the order with him 2 weeks ago. Ill get my cue october/november. His payment for start up is around 30 percent.

Bob Danielson , the hit his cues produce i've never came across before .
And your design will be no problem at all and his prices are very reasonable .

I've Used two Cue-Makers You Should Consider

Jerry Rauenzahn is in your neck of the woods (Pennsylvania) and of course, I'd also highly recommend Bob Owen in Kansas,
I can personally vouch for both cue-makers having terrific skills since each made me a custom I designed and my cues have
outstanding balance and feel......both cues have flat ivory joints.

This is right up there with Rick Howard the ring work and 6 points are his best. Plus can't beat the playability of his clues. Warning I am bias, I own 4 of his cues currently.
