why are the british the best in the world?

I guess if you grow up playing snooker you are forced to groove that dead straight stroke. I think snooker is lame though. They literally have to practice 8 hours a day to keep that stroke straight and the champ is usually the guy with the straightest stroke and the best cue action. I believe pool is more skillful in the sense that you need the knowledge of shots and shot making but I have to give it to snooker players, their strokes are as straight as they come.

I've always been amazed at how accurate snooker players must be to pocket (or should I say pot) balls like they do. Certainly a product of dedication, desire and knowledge.

With that being said, I wonder how can they accomplish this amazing accuracy with those weird broomstick handle light/dark grained, ugly, cue sticks with the brass or tin or whatever they are ferrules with mushroomed tips?

Makes ya wonder what all the hype is over all these special shafts we marvel over here in the states when these guys can accomplish what they do with what looks like a used cotton swab.:scratchhead:

From what I understand, snooker players don't go much outside center ball. With this in mind I guess it doesn't really matter what shaft you use because deflection doesn't come into play. I definitely agree though, their ball pocketing is unbelievable.

Virtually everything.

Hmmm...I think the key word here is VIRTUAL.
In REALITY, I think snooker and pool have much to learn from each other.....
...snooker has taken accuracy to new heights.
...pool has taken cue-ball control to new heights.

So do try and keep your feet planted firmly on the ground, Ron....
...it's what Napolean admired about English soldiers...
Flights of fantasy can become a REAL problem..

" If some unemployed punk in New Jersey can get a cassette to make love to Elle
McPherson for $19.95, this virtual reality stuff is going to make crack look like Sanka."

Are you seriously suggesting pool players have better cue ball control than snooker players?

:yikes:

This could be your best gag yet!

Yes....pool players have to park whitey on a dime, often.
Snooker players parking whitey on a manhole cover is often good enough.

Our old North American snooker champion, George Chenier, went to Merry Olde in 1951.
He became known as the master of position play.....had a 144 in the world championship..
....but his long distance potting was his weakness.
George was also the first player to run 150 and out in the world straight pool championship..
...in that game, his forte was known to be accuracy, but his cue ball control was considered
his weakness.

See the pattern here?
Because of modern communication, the difference is not as wide...
...but accuracy remains a major concern to snooker players...
...as does cue ball control to pool players.

Sorry, I didn't take time to read this whole thread so I thought I'd ask:
Best at what?

Troll boy doesn't know. He just sits in momma's basement and barks on command. Yes, snooker players shoot the straightest the world has ever seen, big whoop.

This is akin to arguing on a Cricket forum that American baseball players are much better than English Cricket players... OF course they are.. the pitching is better, the hitters are better, and they are some of the highest paid athletes on the planet.

Largest contract is $300M, and that is guaranteed if he blows out his arm tomorrow. He gets paid the entire contract, every penny. Crickets players could not even play in the minor leagues, and most I suspect, will be unlikely to play in college, but I have no interest to go on a cricket website and troll this info to them.

It's a completely different skill set. Does this mean Cricket is "bad", or course not, but it's not American baseball, and requires a lot less skill to master that sport.

In many regions: No jobs, no solid families, the urge to get away and a lot of time.
Perfect for practising billiards for hours and days to come.
Alternatively, you can become an alcoholic.

Sorry to be so bleak.

I see this (that pool professional players have better cue ball control than professional snooker players) said a lot on here and it always baffles me.

No gag. The size of the tables suggest that there is less margin for error on a pool table. Even though in snooker the white I typically traveling further, they don't typically have to bang the white to get on the next ball in rotation or spin hard of the rails.

Nor do you in pool - typically. Nor do you if you've already played good position on your last shot - importantly.

One thing I know for sure. British are really good at speaking with a British accent.

Well,not all:):):)
I know a few Scottish who actually doesn't speak British at all.
At the same time there are few in Irish community who are hardly understandable:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
