Does 3 foul rule works on gambling?

I played a dude for 100 a set. And there was a rack that i locked him 3 times causing him to lose but he told me that 3 foul doesn't work on gambling only on tournaments. It this true? Cause i thought it's automatic. Gambling or tournament.

Many gamblers change the rules from tournament rules. You need to ask beforehand which rules are different. Or, you could agree to play by tournament rules but either way has to be stated.

I don't know anyone that gambles 9 ball that doesn't play with 3 fouls. I mean, yes I would say something about the rules beforehand. But I'd say the VAST majority of 9 ballers play with the 3 foul rule.

Interesting side note: some people incorporate that as a spot. For example me and my partner were playing two other guys, and we gave them a game to 6 and were always on 1 foul. You'd be surprised how often that comes into play.

Before you start playing always ask Texas Express? If you want to play three fouls and all. That will at least give you a firm ground to go back to later. Good habit to get into.

Also if you start playing 10ball for $ definitely clarify the rules beforehand. That is my favorite game but the rules have gotten so convoluted its getting silly. "Calling just the ten" " no the even balls" "no wait odd" " i don't have to call a straight in length of the table backwards combination on the 4" and my favorite YOU DIDNT CALL SAFE HAHAHAHAHAHAH:thumbup:

in pone pocket 3 foul is rare in gambling games
it must be agreed before the game starts

When gambling, anything and everything is negotiable.
You could have one guy agree to play 1 handed while the other plays 2 handed...anything goes when gambling. One guy could get all the breaks or ball in hand on every turn at the table...whatever you can dream up.

Regardless of whether or not 3 fouls are applicable when gambling, you have to tell him he is on 2 or the 3rd doesn't count as a loss, so that discussion should be behind you before the 3rd foul even comes up.

Let me check the Official Rules of Gambling. Hmm, can't seem to find it on the internet right now, the site must be down.

If you gamble with a guy without establishing the rules ahead of time you will end up playing with whatever rules he makes up as you go along.

Many players use this as a 'move'. Ohh, I dont play 3 fouls! Well, unless agreed upon before hand, ALL rules of 9 ball or 1 pkt are in effect! You may change them BEFORE hand , but NOT during a game in progress.
There is only 1 set of rules in the rule book for 9 ball ( there should be 2....pushout forever!..lol ) and3 fouls in 1 pkt has been a part of the game since its inception.
Saying 'I dont play that way' wont fly with me or anyone I gamble with.

Funny story: a very good local player, Freddy Boggs, now living in vegas, was playing a guy 1 pocket at Champion Billiards in silver spring md. Freddy told him he was on 2 fouls. The guy said "I dont play 3 fouls' Freddy explained to him that is how 1 pkt is played in the rule book. An argument ensued ( NO! really? , in a pool room? ) lol. Finally Freddy un screwed and told the guy " If you change the rules enough, we'll be playin ping-pong!

Thanks

Thanks for the reply guys. we were playing 10 ball and i told him he's on his 2nd foul and told me that no 3 foul rules on gambling but I told him that it's automatic. well. I should've asked before playing.

That's a different situation than fouling him a 3rd time and him claiming it's not a loss. In that situation, he agreed to play by the 3 foul rule by acknowledging that he was on 2 fouls on the shot prior.

In your case, you implicitly agreed to play by his rules by continuing to play even with him refusing to accept the 2nd foul. If you were adamant about playing with the 3 foul rule, you should have stopped playing before shooting the 3rd safety and refused to play until he gave in.

You were right. If its in the rules and not amended before the session starts,
it is automatic. He 'moved' on you.

Good point Bob, however I'd like to add that I heard an argument between 2 people gambling and it was over "tournament" rules. One guy said Valley tournament rules, the other said APA, and an onlooker said everyone plays BCA tourney rules ROFL. Can't beat that.

I have the only copy. It comes in very handy when gambling. Send me $200 and I'll make you a copy.

That's "his" rule on gambling, unless someone tells me otherwise before we play, we play by the world standard rules. If they say something about the rules mid-match, the match is over for me and if they want to play he will need to explain to me all the rules he wants to use before we play again.

You

Got played. Probably by a player. Good chance you would have been payed in a air biscuit.
It is easy. You just say.
Post up.
How do you play here?
10 ball on the breaks count?
No 3 foul? Roll out?
Foul on the cue ball only?
What is a foul here?
Then prepare to be screwed out of any chance of collecting.
That is how it is done every where.
And Pool dies.
Funeral arrangements to be announced.
Nick :)
