The real reason Mike Dechaine withdrew from the World Straight Pool

He should have played! Moving him around to a different group would have had little effect on his ability to do well in the tournament. If you want to be considered a champion, you need to find a way to overcome adversity in all it's various forms. That's about as simple as I can make it.

This isn't a matter of Mike being afraid of playing the best and over coming odds. This is about mike being a stand up guy and saying he's not going to play in a tournament that is being manipulated for someone's financial Gaines.

IF, he seeded before putting the groups together it would absolutely matter. Let's say he seeded top 16, 1 & 16, 2 & 15, 3 & 14, etc. So, MD would have gone from being the best in his group to having a better player in the group (at 9-16 seed). Again, I have NO knowledge of, it was seeded prior to being grouped, if it wasn't then it is irrelevant and seeding shouldn't have even been done. But, since he did seed them, I'd guess it mattered somehow.

Ok, I get it.... Thanks JoJo.

Charlie thought that since he had a piece of Mike, he would put him into a weaker group, giving him a better chance at moving-on, and cashing. Mike wanted more of the pie, and decided to play on his own dime. Charlie didn't like, not having a piece of Mike if he was going to be in a weaker group, so he changed Mike's seeding to a lower number, giving Mike a tougher group.

Now, what if Charlie has a piece of xxx amount of players, as Mike eluded to in his FB post. Was it 2 others?, or 3? ,or 5?.
Can Charlie position their seeding as such, so that none of them are in the same group..? This would be most excellent.

Why anyone would want to be part of this farce is beyond me.

Way to go Charlie. You should do this once a month. Nobody will be the wiser..... just lower the PPV cost, so the average joe can afford it.

True dat him playing but not so true about him having the same chance of winning ,, by pulling out it leaves the impression that he was ok with CWs seeding when it benefited him and not ok with it when it didn't ,,

You can be right all the time and never get anywhere in life. And you can take the worst of it, overcome it and be a true champion. Harold Worst risked his life to win the Three Cushion title in South America when he was 24 years old. There were real death threats on him! Harold was a man's man!

Ronnie Allen used to remark that he made his biggest scores when he gave up the nuts. And he did - often!

The best was when other "pro's" were piling on, as if it were a bunch of middle schoolers mocking the kid with acne. It was astounding reading what many wrote, and unfortunately, not all that surprising.

yeah that was pretty sad......but what would you expect from a bunch of pool players...lol

Or maybe MD felt he deserved that seed to begin with. That would mean that he felt that no matter if Charlie had a piece of him or not he should be there. Possibly that only after Mike decided to buy himself into the tourney and Charlie changed the ranking that Mike realized what was going on.

Look at the OP, in his Facebook post MD states he did not deserve to be the 3 seed.

It's interesting when people die, give us dirty laundry.."

WTF? Is this a joke? If not, it's truly disturbing.

allegedly :)

On one hand I agree but on the other you have to stand up for what's right. I would have withdrawn as well in that situation.

I'm sure this is not the only dragon tournament he has pulled this crap. Is this sanctioned by WPA? Johnnyt

That sounds about right to me.

100% would have withdrawn. Jay is trying to compare apples and oranges. This is not about overcoming adversity or being a man. This is about having integrity and standing for it. I commend Mike D. Hopefully ill find him in Vegas and buy him a few drinks for doing what is right. Pool needs more people doing what is right and less people that simply try to make excuses for people. Whether it is making excuses for the behavior of players, promoters or tournament directors.

I found it ironic that Corey was one of the players mocking Mike on Facebook. Didn't Corey have his own run with CW a few years back? But now he is arm in arm with him.

Also agree with cleary here. At some point, the long term health of pro pool must take priority over short term gain, even if that means losing "legacy" and profit. Right now, because of nonsense like is being pulled in this tourney, pros are assured that they are playing a losers game in the long run. That is not sustainable. It seems like folks in "pro pool" (if this mythic beast actually exists) are more concerned with being the king in a kingdom of paupers than growing the kingdom into a place that is actually worth living.

In other words, there is no future in being the world's tallest midget...
