This cue sales thing gets ridiculous

A member of the forum and very reputable seller sent me a lengthy message and was upset because I commented and accidentally quoted the post "Damn. Full Retail." ON A NEW CUE. Which is fine! Ordering direct from some companies is more expensive than ordering from Seyberts and that is okay. That being said there was a website that sold the cue for say $200 less. I missed the part of his post that said he didn't want any comments on the post. Which was probably his way off saying if you want to get a hold of me, please message. That is okay but If I asked somebody not to comment on my post in the main forum and I was advertising some new book or aiming system, tool etc. I would be crucified.

I'm not upset with the seller, nor do I wish him any ill will. I hope he sells a million more cues because that means the industry is thriving. What I don't like is getting messaged with passive aggressive tones because he made an assumption. That is the biggest mistake in the world of sales and if I did that to a client I'd probably lose my job. I have since deleted the comment as to not single him out.

If he had said, "Hey man, I saw your comment and you quoted and commented and now the post looks all goofy. I'm not sure if you read but I asked for people not to comment, so could you please do me a solid delete that I'd appreciate it. Also the cue is priced this way because blahblahblah" I would have apologized, said sure thing, no problem and everything would be cool.

Also saying "Have a good day." after telling somebody what you think about them or their character is the same as saying "No offense, but.."

So no offense but have a good day :grin-square:

I think the issue was you making ANY comment on the price of his offering. A seller has the right to ask any price for what is theirs. It's no ones business if it's "Full Retail" or a "Bargain".. That is all subjective and irrelevant. It's the sellers item to do with what they want. The right thing to do IMO is to private message him and make him an offer if interested. If not interested, move on.. A lot of sellers are getting tired of people commenting on what is their right to price as they wish. In the long run the seller will learn when it doesn't sell and maybe adjust the price or decide not to sell... I have seen many cues I thought were "out of line" price wise but I try not to comment unless the seller is looking for advise...

then dont allow any comments in the post. why should his cronies be able to say what a great deal it is but someone else cant say hey you priced it too high.

then an unsuspecting person gets taken for a ride because all he saw was positive comments on the price.

if your item is good and the price is fair it will sell no matter what someone says about the price.

So you're saying you rely on others to tell you what to pay for something? Second, if there are many "positive comments on the price" of an item it's probably true...Also if someone is truly "unsuspecting" they shouldn't be buying anything until they do their own research like educated buyers do. I find that those who say something about the price of another persons item in the thread are either most likely jealous, holding a grudge for some past experience, or just trying to stir up trouble.. None which should be allowed in the thread.. PM maybe but not thread... Bottom line, if you like an item but don't like the price contact the seller by pm and make an offer. If not interested move on....

I think the OP should read the stickies at the top of the For Sale Forum....
....especially the ninth one down.....articles six and seven.

The 'it's no one's business' line is bullshit. The price of pool equipment is damn well our business, all of us.

Stupid rules made to protect stupid sellers imo.

What are talking about?
Things must be boring again over at the NPR so you go to the main forum just to cause trouble.

Here is the rule, right out of the rule book, so yes, it is none of your business.
Pay attention to the part that says "you have no right"
Now go back to the NPR and complain that Rule #7 is un-American

7) You have no right to criticize or complain regarding pictures, prices etc.

Internet crap

After nearly 65 years of living I have decided nothing is more confusing, misleading and easy to screw up as communication on the internet. I think the wide spread use of "social media", be it internet forums or what ever avenue will only provide away for this type of issue to be possible and become more confusing.

Computers are wonderful for processing information. They suck at providing reliable and accountable communication information.

I don't care -what- people say in comments. I form my own opinion based on my own research.

Probably the biggest pitfall is the "Geico Syndrome" in which someone believes something just because they heard it so many times. IOW, people take stock in respondents opinions and statements even though they might not know a thing about the respondent's knowledge and background.

Just because someone responds to many threads does not in-and-of-itself make them an expert. In fact, with a little experience one will find that the opposite is true: Those with the most knowledge offer opinions only occasionally.

And as to the original point of this thread, public price-knocking is not only poor taste, but is none of anyone's business. A buyer should be educated and if they are not, they are 50% to blame for a poor deal.

I had the same thought as you when I saw that post....full retail when they were never likely sold at that price to begin with seems strange. I really like one of those cues but not going to pay an extra $220 over what they originally sold for from a dealer.

But....I didn't see the need to say anything in his thread because it's really not my business what he posts them for.

Like I said I said. It wasn't about knocking at all. I really liked the particular cue and would prefer to buy it from somebody here. It wasn't until afterwards that I questioned the when I saw on online dealer that sold it for less.

Don't knock prices. If the price is too high, don't buy it. How difficult is that?

This issue comes up pretty often, and it blows my mind every time.

Then get off your troll arse and begin sending PM's to every person that posts in a for sale thread and warn them you can find it a few bucks cheaper. You up for the job sport ?

This forum is not a place to find bargains. You might find cues you will have difficulty finding anywhere else, but you won't get a deal, most likely you will pay full retail ++. All the dealers and flippers had this place set up beautifully. Nobody but they and their shills and cronies could get their ads on the first three pages. It got so bad that they had to change the entire forum...that should tell you something. Every thread created by them now is whining about not being able to charge triple retail price anymore.. It is also telling how many will not give you a price, but insist that you make an offer, always trolling for victims fresh off the turnip truck.. If you want to see what the real market value of a cue is, watch the no- or low reserve Ebay auctions, then compare...Deals are only had in poolrooms or through friends.

I would argue with the first part of that statement.

I've gotten some very good deals on cues here.

Do you know what a stupid made up rule actually is?

Were you knocking the price on ebay or on this website?

If I want to buy your cue I get a friend to knock your cue in an attempt to run off other potential buyers and get a lower price. It is a simple concept and I'm sure one reason the rule exists. I can understand why somebody wouldn't be happy.

Like I said I said. It wasn't about knocking at all. I really liked the particular cue and would prefer to buy it from somebody here. It wasn't until afterwards that I questioned the when I saw on online dealer that sold it for less.

imo, that was your perfect opportunity to pm the seller and let him know you would like to buy his cue but you see it at xyz.com for $xyz and ask if he would match that price.

It's probably not too late, maybe contact him now and make the offer. :)

and fyi, as soon as you commented publicly on his thread regarding price, that is considered knocking his for sale thread, even if that wasn't what you intended.

best,
brian kc

Yes I do, and no.7 is not one of them.
The rule is there for a few reasons, and one is to keep previously banned trolls
with multiple aliases from offering their uneducated opinion.
Rule no. 7 ties the hands of troublemakers and people who never buy or sell
anything, so of course you would think it's a stupid rule.
