So last Wednesday I'm in my league match playing eight-ball. I get the break, see a flash of yellow go into the side pocket and think its the one ball. I shoot in a solid but it was really the nine ball that fell. The one ball is sitting smack in the middle of the table, all alone, mocking me. Okay, I shot a ball in the wrong group. It happens. Ball in hand to my opponent.
My opponent teases me for a few seconds (not inappropriately; he's a great guy and I'd have done the same) then he decides to play a safety and at the same time clear a pocket I seem to have blocked. Since I have just fouled, he takes ball in hand, very deliberately lines up on the ball he will use to eliminate the blocker and fires away. Problem is, with ball in hand, he lines up on a stripe (one of my balls, since I made the nine on the break) and shoots it into the blocker. I bring this problem to his attention and we both marvel at how ridiculous it is that he would shoot at the wrong group with ball in hand right after I had just done the same thing. Now we're both kind of tickled and distracted.
I then take ball in hand after his foul and immediately proceed to line up on and (you guessed it) pocket one of solids and then a second one before either of us catch what I have done! Never have I engaged in such sustained idiocy at a pool table (granted, with an assist from my opponent).
I don't know that anyone can match this but at least help me out. Can anyone make me feel even slightly less foolish and tell about when they at least came close to pulling this big a boner. And not what you saw, what you heard, but what YOU did.
