Welcome to the forums :)
Very cool stuff you posted up there, clearly you know the game well  Competing with the likes of Reyes, now im jealous :embarrassed2:
Cant wait to hear more from you, Im sure you have some good insights about the game and equipment involved in it

Speaking of equipment, what do you play with yourself?

Welcome to the forums, the 80s and 90s are the best era for my liking in pool, I just love watching games from that era.

Can I ask you, since you are from that era :P is it true that most players back then used lepro tips as the main tip for play, and did you guys had laminated tips and if yes did top pro's use it?

(Until Ron gets his AZ legs) back in the day you were pretty limited in your tip selection: Le Pro, Triangles, Triumph, Elk Master, and maybe Brunswick were about it. Laminated tips didn't come out until later, like the 90's.

My recollection is that Le Pros and Triumphs were the most popular though you had to cut off the red pads on the Triumphs and either discard them or re-glue them as they had a habit of separating at the worst possible time.

My personal favorites were the Triumphs but tips out of the same box would be all over the place in terms of quality. It was an art form to pick the best tips out of a box and guys had different ways to select a handful they considered worthy.

Welcome. I hope you have a thick skin. I look forward to insights that I'm sure you can bring, but others are not so open & some don't seem to like Pros or even near pros 'intruding' into 'their' realm.

Hang tough.

Hello Ron! Known as "Mexican Ronnie", even as a teenager Ron was famous in the 70's and 80's. He played out of Big Mama's (later Ronnie Allen's place) in North Hollywood but hustled all though Southern Calfornia. Ron was/is a truly talented player.

Welcome to the forums Ron Rosas. I saw you play a few times back in the mid to late '70's out in CA. I suspect you still play just as well now, as you did then. It's like riding a bike...you don't "forget" how to play! We all look forward to hearing tales of the pool scene then and now!

Pay no attention to English's comment. Most people here have a great deal of respect for players like yourself. What's tough to abide are the wannabes that "have been playing at a high level for 50 years", who actually know little about the game.

Welcome to the forum. I have an old vhs sand regency tape with you playing in the semis against David Howard. You are a helluva player.

Welcome to the forum, looking forward to your insight and input.

Keep in mind, you're a D player compared to some of the other posters on here. I'm the teenager in the corner chasing balls around, slamming them into rails a million miles an hour and knocking balls off the table.

Welcome Ron!

Love those images you posted, reading those rankings lists bring back a lot of good memories.

I think the 80s were an incredible decade for pool.

Hey

Welcome to AZB forums:

I loved the 80's for pool too; I didn't know it then, but those were the golden days of pro tournaments for me.......I remember the pleasure and enjoyment of attending tournaments at Caesar's Tahoe, and the Sands Regency in Reno.
First time I ever saw Earl was at the Sands. I saw you there too, Ron. You were a force to contend with.

The "Other" Ronnie!

Welcome back, Ron!... yes, '80's and '90's pool. A great era for tournament action...
I remember seeing you at the Bicycle Club tourneys a couple of times... looking forward to your posts.

Welcome Ron!

You will be a great asset to AZB and Million Dollar Billiards. I think someone snuck you in to play me at House of Billiards in Sherman Oaks in the mid 80's and you drilled me a set or two. It was a pleasure watching you shoot. :)

Thank you all for the very kind words!

As far as equiptment, I have never had to buy a cue in my life. I just played with what people gave me and they would ask me to try and sell some on the side. I hade a real nice "Brownie" Ginacue for a while can't remember the tip, most likely La Pro.
Wow I would love to see that old VHS footage! So far I haven't seen many of my games pop up on you Tube. There is one were I play Allen Hopkins at the Sands, and another playing Buddy Hall 11 to 3, me. Yeah I played alot around LA, Vegas, Reno and some other places. never went on tours or anything, I was more a money player.
Thank you all for the kind greetings I'm trying to post more stuff in my profile albums.

Yes it was a tough playing field back then!

I hope to find more picks to post or me and Earl pal'ing around, and some other stuff I got laying around.
