World Cup of Pool - Day 4 & 5 Updates

Japan let up on them and let them get right again. So weak safety play cost them in the end. Peach makes a big bank on the 5 and it left an easy 4 ball out.

Nice to hear Gray say the played badly in beginning.

Taipei is the overwhelming favorite IMO.

Based on the Fargo ratings England have about 31% chance to win in a race to 10.

I'm thinking they were wishing the final was a race to 7. :p

Ko wins the lag.

Frame 1: He breaks dry. Peach misses the 1, but they're playing 2 way, so hook Chang. Chang makes the kick but scratches. A trickt 2 ball to deal with... perhaps a combo onto the 9. They play position for the combo. It was deader than an egyptian mummy. England 1-0

Frame 2: Peach makes a ball and Gray has a shot on the 1. Makes it, knocks the 2 into good shape and caroms the 6 in too, just for kicks. They sink the tricky 4, Peach makes a nice long 5, that he might have missed earlier in the day and they are home. 2-0

I bet they wished it was a race to 3 now.

Frame 3: Gray breaks dry. Long 1 on. Chang hits it thick and 1 hides near the 5. Peach stuns and hides the CB behind the 5 nicely. Was very hard to escape with the 1 beside the 6, and Ko hits the 6 first. Layout has no obstacles. Should be 3-0 now. Bad shape on the 4. Peach hits the 8 coming to the 4 and leaves a hard cut on the 4. Gray misses it and leaves it on. Horrible waste of an opportunity there. Gray's fault going from 3 to 4 and not getting closer to it or on a better angle.

Chang has to make a tricky 7 along the rail about 1/4 ball. Taiwan gets on the scoreboard. 2-1

Frame 4: Chang breaks. It's dry again and perfect spread for England. Getting all the rolls so far. Gray under draws from 1 to 2. They take extension to work out the best path. They get on the 3 nice with some check. 6 seems the only ball they could struggle with. Gray gets on it fine, playing their typical snooker type positional routes. They clear up and move to a 3-1 lead.

Frame 5: Peach to break. He's breaking well and makes the 1, but 2 ball gets covered. They push out and pocket the 3 leaving an open 3 which is both hard to pot and hard to play safe off. Taiwan uses their extension. They give it back.

Gray feathers it and leaves a chance at a cut on the 2. Chang takes it on, on the 4th beep and jaws it out. Peach makes it, a fine cut 4 by Gray and they should be out now. They do it easily and move to 4-1.

That's 11 of their last 14 frames won! Winning 9-7 from 2-5 down in the previous match.

Frame 6: Gray breaks and makes the 2 ball into the head rail corner and they are on the 1. Should be an easy out. And it is. England 5-1 now. wow

12 -3 in their last 15 games. Amazing run of the balls, and playing pretty smooth now... as you'd expect when on a run like this.

Taiwan are gone unless they can make some balls off the break when they get a chance.

Frame 7: Peach with a lovely hard break, 1 in side. 3 balls in. A difficult long cut on the 3 ball available. I expect Gray to make it. He misses to the pro side and leaves the 3 safe. Another roll.

Nice bank hooks the 3. England use their extension. Needs a lot of english here. Oh, he's jumping, hits it, CB jaws out of corner pocket and 3 has to be banked. Chang makes the bank, leaves Ko a long way from the 4. Ko calls extension.

This must be a nerve rattler. He barely makes the pot. They hold their nerves well enough to clean up. Can they make a ball on the break. They trail 2-5.

Frame 8: World's best breaker, LOL, Ko, has his business face on, but it's dry again. Just misses the 1 in the side. The 1 is hooked.

They take extension and push out, tying up the 5 and 9. Taiwan takes their extension. Chang plays the 1, tries a big cut with safety and gets neither, though 1 is hard to pot. Peach safes to hook them on a long 1 ball.

Ko goes 1 rail kick with side and looks to have left a shot on the 1. Gray plays a weak safety. Chang plays safe back, hooks them, but 1 is over the pocket. Peach plays rail first, makes the 1 and is nicely on the 2. On a tricky 3 now, that maybe will slide in. It does and they should clear from here.

A shocker from Peach leaves Mark knuckled up on the 7 shooting the 6. He rolls it in but now a tester for Peach on the 7. Nice shot, but he looked tense and leaves Mark on the wrong side of the 8, and amazingly, he miscues it and misses the ball. Wasn't necessary. A crack appears, let's see how wide Taiwan opens it up.
