World Cup of Pool - Day 4 & 5 Updates

Is it me, or is Wych one of the most unknowledgable commentators around?
Wow!
Some of the stuff this guy says is unbelievably clueless.

Frame 9: Chang breaks dry again. Peach fluffs a carom and looking like his 756 Fargo rating again... or worse. He's a fighter, though must be starting to kick himself.

Taiwan will run this out. Getting some freebies now. They trail by just one now. 5-4

If anyone is making a huge mistake, it's Chi-Tai not at least trying to change their break up that is clearly not working.
MOVE THE CUE BALL AND TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT!

Worst that can happen is you come up dry again, which is what you have been doing all match.

Continuing to break from the same spot is trying to put a round peg in a square hole.

At what point does the snooker cue limit to what you can do with spin on the pool table? Many former snooker players convert to pool cues, but I've only seen Mark Grey and Steve Davis play pool with snooker cues.

Yet, snooker players like peach, Chris Melling, and I believe even ronnie O'Sullivan used pool cues.

That miscue was unfortunate. I'm blaming the snooker cue and the extremely small diameter.

Frame 10: Ko to break. He changes sides. He also loads up on this one, but the same result. Dry!!! 1 is on. Simple stun to hold for the 2.

Peach plays 2 rails to the 3 nicely. 6 may be an obstacle further on. They manage it somehow, but my stream froze so I missed it.

They clear and move to a lead of 6-4.

Frame 11: Gray slams them, makes a ball, and the 9 almost went in the corner. He's perfect on the 1 for Peach. There's a tricky 2-9 combo, they take the extension.

Gray makes the 9, playing a billiard rather than cutting the 2 onto the 9.

Their roll is back in the microwave. They lead 7-4, needing just 3 more.

I don't like his stroke when he has to get a lot of work on the ball. Too pokey. I'll play him 3 rail pool anyday :grin-square:

Agree on your assessment. Even his warm up strokes are pokey and rigid. When he needs to juice up on a shot, backstroke is too quick.

Couple that with the 10mm diameter snooker cue, and a miscue like that is in store.

Frame 12: Peach to break. Slams the 1 in the side, almost scratches twice. Hooked on the 2, which is 10 feet away near the opposite corner pocket. Too close to the 7 to jump I think. They use their extension. Gray will jump at the 2.

He rushes it on the beeps, hits the 2 but misses the pot. Chang has a tricky cut on the 2. They use their extension. Chang hits it thick, but flukes a snooker on the 2. Peach kicks 1 rail, slow speed made little sense, he leaves Ko perfect on the 2.

4 ball has to go to the long corner. Ko pots it well. Can't see them missing the last few. They get their 5th game and trail by 2. Will they break dry for the 6th time this match?

I think it's 11mm, but not sure. It doesn't seem to play solid when he juices up.

Frame 13: Chang makes a ball.... finally. Ko has a tricky 2, they take their extension.

Wow, he missed the 6 completely... actually just grazed it. I thought maybe a double kiss miss, but not that. Peach shows him how to play the double kiss miss. LOL He jumped all over it.

Chang steadies the ship with a 3 railer off the 2. They clean up easily and back to just 1 behind. 6-7

They'd be home and having their 3rd bowl of noodles if they'd had the chances given to England in this match.

Frame 14: Ko breaks, changing sides again. Makes the 3 wing ball but can only see the edge of the 1 ball.

Stream freezes, they obviously pushed out and were sent back. A great kick and stick by Chang locks the CB behind the 6. Better take some chances soon England.

Peach kicks 1 rail, almost scratches and leaves only a tricky bank or safe from the 1.

Stream is poor for me tonight, more viewers I guess.

Ko eventually plays a low return safe, but gets the hook and finds some value. Gray kicks it and leaves a pretty easy shot on the 1. 6 to 7 carom the only concern for Taiwan I think. Chang has to play it from about 5 feet away. He makes it and keeps the 6 on for Ko and they level the scores at 7-7.

We have a race to 3 now. Do England have any rolls left in them?

Frame 15: Chang makes the 3 wing ball. They have a shot on the 1, not a gimme though. Ko caroms the 1 onto the 7 and got ok on the 1.

A tester from 2 to 4, but they are masters of these shots. A lot of traveling to go 4-5-6 now. Chang makes a nice 4 and perfect on the 5. Ko chooses the longer route to the 6, to avoid any chance of scratching in the side.

Chang makes it, Ko makes a long 8 but leaves the 9 tricky. Chang rattles it in.. I thought it was gonna stay up. They lead 8-7 and England players look like they've just sucked on a lemon.

thanks for the play-by-plays! i called our pool hall so that we could run up there & see the finale, but they aren't streaming it.

England look like a deer in the headlights.
Lumps in their throat now.
This will be an interesting finish.

Shot of the tournament there.
That was awesome.
I hate jump cues, but the fact that England gave the push back, and the Chi-Tai rifled in that jump shot in....
Couldn't have come at a better time.
Wow!

Frame 16: Ko to break. He makes the 8 ball but hooked on the 1. Chang pushes further than intended and England send them straight back in. Chang has a difficult jump kick now. Wow, he hit it straight in and the open sign goes up on their bakery window.

He missed scratching by an inch or two but got Ko onto the 2 ball. They are in line now. I'll pencil them in for 9-7 on the hill, they rarely miss these outs.

Peach and Gray turning grey and must be feeling sick now.
