Japan: Naoyuki Oi & Toru Kuribayashi
England B: Daryl Peach & Mark Gray
Race to 9
Lag: Naoyuki v Gray. Naoyuki wins.
Frame 1: Toru breaks.1 into the side. Chance on the 2 ball. It's made and good shape on the 3. They should B&R here. Japan off to a flier. 1-0
Frame 2: Naoyuki Oi breaks dry. 1 ball on, but can't pot. Gray's safety is so so. Toru hooks them. Peach kicks and leaves a long hard cut on the 1. Oi plays safe and gets the hook. Kick by England leaves a long 1. Toru makes it and is on the 2. 3 is tricky. Toru lock up hooks behind the 9 ball. Peach kicks the 3 but leaves a shot... though it may scratch in the side where the 3 is. Oi has to play safe and double kissed, leaving a tricky 3. Gray will pump it in, and he does. A tester for Peach now. Great shot by Peach and they should roll out from here. 1-1
Frame 3: Peach makes 2 balls and is perfect on the 1. An awkward 7 ahead. 3 played with power into the side spins out of the jaws. Leaves Japan on the 3. They set up for a tricky 7-8 combo... and make it, holding for the 7. They clear and now lead 2-1.
Frame 4: Toru makes a ball and is perfect on the 1. 2 is stuck in front of the 4 though, in the opposite corner. Oi plays safe. A bank and combo to 9 is on. 9 just misses. Japan on the 1, but same problem with the 2 ball. They play safe. Gray hooks them. Oi kicks and double kisses. Peach hooks them. Toru jumps and gets safe.... England nudges the 2 with the CB. Japan miss a pot on the 1. England has a 1-2 combo now. They play it nice and should clear from here. Gray gets wrong side of the 4 and now must make a long 5 fine cut. He nails it and leaves a long but not too hard 6 ball. Peach chokes on it and jaws it. Oi has to play safe. Will Gray take this long cut on? Nope, he plays safe and leaves the 6 on to the side. Japan clears and lead 3-1.
Frame 5: Oi breaks dry. 1 is on, 2 is nearby. 3 will test position. Peach 3 railer only gets to half of the 3 ball. Gray with a poor safety. Toru with the same. Peach's safety is better. Oi kicks 2 rails and hooks them real good. Gray makes a long 2 rail kick and hooks them back. Toru jumps and gets safe, leaving the CB knuckled up on the 6 to make England's job tricky. Safe not great. Japan safe hooks them. Gray jumps and gets a good long safe. Toru leaves Peach a shot. Peach makes a nice power stun. They should clear the last 5 balls. Peach flubs a draw shot and leaves Mark much harder than it should have been, but he nails it and England now trail by 1. 2-3
Frame 6: Gray makes 8 wing ball. Nice shot on the 1 available. Gray misses an easy 2, trying to play it with inside english, but it collides into another ball, knocking it in. Huge fluke, now they get to the tricky 3. Mark hits the 6 too hard and loses shape on the 7 badly. Peach plays safe well. Japan not laughing now. The kick leaves Mark a long shot. He misses and leaves a tricky 7. Toru makes a nice fine cut and they move to 4-2.
England blew their big roll. It was more like a loaf than a roll.
Frame 7: Toru breaks dry, leaves a tricky 1-2 combo. Peach misses it, and shape on the 1 luckily. Oi plays safe, leaves a path to the 1. Gray gets it pretty safe. Toru doesn't. Will England B mess up again? Yep, Peach yanks it straight away. Oi makes a nice 1 and they're away. They get wrong side of the 6, so a tricky 3 railer for Toru here.
Damn site logged me out so I missed the rest of the frame. Japan clears to move to 5-2.
Looks like Japan has their measure today.
Frame 8: Oi scratches. England has a combo 4-9. Gray makes it. 3-5
Frame 9: Peach makes 1 in side, CB knocks 2 ball in. Shot on the 3 is long and tricky. Gray jabbs it and it hits the 7 on the way to the pocket. Toru has a difficult cut. He plays a 2 way carom-safe makes the 7 but scratches. It's raining chances for England B. Peach almost hooks Gray. Nothing looks easy for these two at the moment. If they don't run out here, I'll be challenging them for money. ;-) They do it, and they needed to hit a few in. They trail by one. 4-5
Frame 10: Gray makes 2 wing ball. Peach jumps up and misses a tough 1 ball by 6 inches and flukes a snooker. Nice kick by Toru leaves 1 hooked. Gray clips the edge of the 1 and scratches. Can't see the logic of that shot. If Japan hands this game over, I think Mark and Darryl will have enough shares to buy that bakery of Ko Pin Yi.
Japan looks comfortable out there. They clean up and move to 6-4.
Frame 11: Toru makes a ball. Oi caroms 1 into 5. Toru pots 1 but hooks Oi on the 2. Nice kick from Oi almost caroms the 9 in. A long shot on the 2 for Gray. He fished around for the pot angle for 15 seconds and found the line. They should clear now. Peach has an easy 9, the crowd sigh in relief. England just 1 behind, somehow. 5-6
Frame 12: Peach smashes them, 1 goes in the side and CB finishes perfect on the 2. Peach smashes a nice 3 in... looks like that's his strategy from here on out. LOL I called that too early, he just dribbled a ball in and finishes a foot short on the 6, such that it's now on in the side. He has a long 7 now. He pumps it in
Scores level now. 6-6
Frame 13: Gray breaks. DRY. 1 is on, shape to 2 tricky. 2-9 combo a chance if they play to get on it. Oi with a nice 3 railer onto the 2 in the side. Toru smooth strokes it in, and they should clear up. 6 needs some thought. Oi gets bad on it and slams his chalk on the table. They look like someone stole their sushi ;-)
Toru's saftey leaves a long 6 for Peach, and he's a new man now, he slams it in. England clears, takes the lead, and now the Japanese look like their Rice Wine and Sake went missing as well. 7-6 England
Frame 14: Peach power break makes 2 balls. Maybe has a shot on the 2. Gray makes it and gets on the 3 to the side. 4 to 5 is tricky. Gray has no problems with it and they should go to the hill now. A tester on the 6 for Gray. He loses the CB a bit. Peach has a 1/4 ball cut, 2 rails to 9. He goes 4 rails and leaves a longish 9 on the rail. Gray slams it in and England B, is mysteriously on the hill and 2 ahead. 8-6
Frame 15: Gray breaks. 8 ball kicks the CB across the table straight into the head rail corner pocket. 3-9 combo is easy for Taiwan. A 1 minute game. 8-7
Frame 16: Oi makes 1 in the side but hooks the 2 ball. A dilemma for them, jump or push? They push, to a harder jump position I think. hmmmm England use up their extension, considering the swerve. Peach plays it and makes it and gets on the 3. Mark has to go 2 rails and get behind the 4. Peach misses the long pot. He rushed it. 4 is tricky for Japan. Oi misses the long bank. Leaves a tricky pot down the rail. Gray plays safe, gets a lucky kiss on the 7 to avoid selling out.Toru underhits the safe. Peach plays a massive cross corner bank, it wobbles in and finishes perfect on the 5. Peach plays a nice 7 to 8 and England B win 9-7.
They will play Chinese Taipei in the final in about 2 hours.
