RKC delivered big time!

I called Glen out a while ago, we had a deal that had gone off track. Well he delivered, big time.

I don't think there are many mechanics that would do the work he did.

He took what we found out to be a bit of a "frankenstein" and made it into what I believe to be truly a world class table.

It started out as a Saunier-Whilhem from Pennsylvania. (Kind of a Gold Crown knock-off with a lesser frame.)

I know what he did, but can't really explain the technical stuff properly. I will give a layman's summary though.

He rebuilt the rails, replacing a lot of wood, and extending the subrails so I have true 4 1/2" pockets (no shims). He also added a couple of bolts to each, I have 5 per rail (9" inch centers, 20150905_200501.jpg

Then he added a bunch of angle iron around the frame so there is no chance of sag.

He made my feet adjustable, added his leveling system, and fastened the 3 piece slate together.

Also, I have shallow shelves, so he adjusted the angle of the pockets so they play deeper.

All in all, I want to say it was worth the wait, the experience was comparable to a root canal. Now that it is over though - the table is AWESOME!

Thank you Glen (and Rich), and feel free to correct any of the specifics I may of miss stated.

Pictures don't do it justice and hopefully I can get all of them in.

I then mounted it on the ceiling!

I don't know why the last two are upside down, I will try a couple more.

The floor jack was used to lift the frame so the leg levelers could be turned to level the frame do the table. Pockets are 4 1/2" corners & 5" sides. Did you see the 3"×1/4" L channel bolted to the frame, painted grey? I had to install that the keep the table from sagging under the weight of the slates. Like I told John, he has the first & last table of this make that I'll ever work on as there are way to many flaws in the design of this table to ever repeat this process again, but I cut no corners on making this table play right along with the best of them out here.

Glen needs to head down south . Lots of rain coming down PNW soon.
GREAT WORK!

So he finally showed up and completed promised work months past what was stated and after you had to threaten him on here earlier this year? What a great deal!

Yeah, plenty of tragic things in my life slowed down Johns pool table from getting rebuilt, but he's very aware that all so called pool table mechanic's are not created equal. But you can believe what ever you want about why John finally got his table done, you and all those like you are the reason I don't post pictures of my work on AZ anymore.

The customer got what he wanted, appears to be very happy with the work, it looks great, and Im sure the table plays better than it ever has, coming from RKC I think we know the job is done right. Oh wait, it was a little late. Oh Boy, what a travesty!!!!!!!! From the pool table horror stories posted on these forums I think this is an extremely mild infraction. Seems like another member taking the opportunity to belittle another forum member for no real reason other than to try to start a fire. Nice work Glen.

Original poster was happy with Glen... Your reply was uncalled for IMO.

Table

Did he work on both tables in that room or only one.....? I see another table in the background in the upside down photo...

Another great job by RKC! I've given lessons on a few dozen tables done by RKC, all over the country, and they're always perfect! Nice to see you up in the PNW Glen! I'll be up in Montana in about a week! I for one, sure enjoy seeing pictures of your work. Quality sells itself!

I am someone going through one of the horror stories right now. If I had the money to fly him in and fix it I would have no problem waiting.

Not only that, he is helping me on these forums with no promise of anything in return (as are dontlitethat, fastone371, reverend, and bigchase). From what I have read he has a waiting list - for someone that busy to take time to help someone he doesn't know at all says a LOT.

When I was doing some research about the problems I am having I came across a thread on here where RKC ran a training course 4 or 5 years ago........and from the posts I read he did it for FREE for the people who went to learn.

RKC - thank you for doing the job right, being the best out there and being willing to freely share your knowledge

Yes, I am very happy with my table.

As I said, I cannot imagine other mechanics doing the work that he did to make it perfect.

The last day he was here for 11 hrs, and that was after he built the rails and prepped the slate at his shop.

Sometimes, just sometimes, RKC is a bit egotistical on the quality of his work ;)

But, when he turns a "Franken table" into a Beauty Queen, you got to cut the man some slack.

Well done Glen, I really do appreciate folks that put out superb quality in any field they work in.

I like this setup. What size bolts (sex bolt?) did you use? How thick were the framing members that couldn't support the weight? I see a ledger board (2x2) bolted to the side of the frame to add some bearing for the slate.

What are your thoughts with the 3/4 (?) plywood? To distribute the bearing point of the slate out away from the frame? Did it affect the table height?

Speaking for myself, I truly enjoy reading your threads about the tables you work on. I appreciate the innovation and care you put into your task and have learned from it. I took apart my own mediocre table and turned it into a player after following your postings.

Ignore the chaff and carry on with your original plans. You don't get critics until you become somebody. If everybody liked you, you'd be doing something wrong.

Best,
Mike
