Racking controversy at US Open - The Rocket implied some "cheaters" !!!

cheating is one thing but lets be careful what we call cheating. If your morals won't allow you to do something that is available to you "as a skill" then deal with it or don't take part.

Tilting the rack is cheating, deliberately creating gaps that allow you to make a ball is cheating, pattern racking (when forbidden in the rules) is cheating. It's pretty clear cut.

Unfortunately, Rodney is right.

And in a professional-caliber event, there really should be neutral referees racking each game.

Could you see pool in the Olympics with the competitors racking their own? :D

Ludicrous. The WPC and US open has become a free haven for rack mechanics. It's like the Poker tournaments allowed people to deal from the bottom of the deck etc...It's bad for the game, imo. Rodney may be a whiner, but he's right on this one. Not that anyone cares about right or wrong anymore, only winners and losers.

Why do people always make this horrible comparison?

In poker, if you are a mechanic, then you are guaranteeing yourself or your partner to win anytime you pull a move. The same can't be said about being a rack mechanic. Sure, it gives the player a better chance of making a ball, but it certainly doesn't guarantee they will win the rack.

Hold up Biebs,

You can be a bottom dealer and give yourself 4 aces but what happens if your opponent gets a miracle royal flush?

Being a deck mechanic isn't just about giving yourself a strong hand. It's about giving your opponent a hand you beat, but is strong enough to give you action.

It depends on how good you are/how obvious you are willing to be.
And to be fair, guaranteeing a ball on the break/a shot on the one playing nine ball is all but guaranteeing yourself a win at this level.

The end results shouldn't matter, really. Cheating is cheating, and those who rig racks should be called out as such.

:scratchhead:

What's the punishment for cheaters in pool?

Oh...that's right, they have a better chance of winning the money!

.

To keep the cost of having rackers for every match down, why don't they just use rackers for the last two days of the tournament

So you are suggesting he cheats. Right?
LOL

Easiest way to stop tilting is draw a line around the template like they do in 14.1 so they know where the rack goes.
It's not like the balls won't freeze up. ITS A TEMPLATE.
End of problem.

Not rocket science on that one.

Freezing the balls together, that's a different story but easily resolved with a quick inspection.

Yep, In Germany they mark the rack area and draw a string line all the way back to the rail.

No chance to tilt. I don't like rack your own but it's pretty simple, opponent checks the rack and done.

Is that a new Rodney post or is it from last year? Seem to remember seeing it before.

And if you're gonna use poker as an example please note that you cannot give yourself 4 Aces And your opponent a Royal Flush......THERE ARE NOT 5 ACES IN THE DECK!!!!

Good point.

I agree with Rodney that should be neutral rackers and not rack your own.
But it will be difficult to verify/confirm his accusations of cheaters unless he can produce 2 things:

1) Names of so called "cheaters".

2) Smoking gun

:D

Great idea.... pay refs for each table. Only problem is that they won't show again next year until they get paid from last year & then we can start the whole escro thing all over.

All these posts about nothing. I've watched every single TV match thus far. Not one rack complaint except the very first match Earl asked Frost to rerack one time because they were slightly crooked. Frost did, no problem. Match went on.

Jesus, all drama queens in pool.

Last big event I saw here in the states that used refs to rack the players raised so much hell about it that it was changed to rack your own.

So if players b!tched when refs rack, when its rack for your opponent and rack your own I'll be damned if I can see a solution. My opinion is that if you can't trust players to not cheat their opponent you have way bigger problems than procedures for starting a game.

Racking is only broken because there is so little honor in the game. Fix that and a lot of problems including the rack go away.

Solid poast, but neutral rackers is the by far the preferred method, it's just that there needs to be some experienced players showing them how to rack properly or it becomes pointless fast. You can't have people who just went through the BCA ref training or something racking for top pros.

Honour amongst the players would solve the problem too, but I actually think there's more honourable players than not, it's just the dishonourable ones kind of ruin things for the rest.

How about rack for your opponent with the accu-rack or magic-rack ?
