Training Facility.

Let me know when you are ready to Open the doors.... I will make a road trip with Rack Templates, and Chalk in tow if I can.. Great Idea John... Will have to see the concept.. Outsville has to find a commercial home at some point might be able to do the same in Knoxville.....

Happy to say that I signed a lease on a space that will be used as the headquarters of JB Cases AND a training facility for our area.

We are moving tables in next week and will be setting up cameras and TVs and acquiring training materials and helpful devices.

We will be the only place for those under 18 to go for proper training in our immediate area.

Our goal is that every time you walk out of our "dojo" you will be a better player than when you came in.

I decided that I needed to be doing more hands-on work to make pool grow.

John Barton = Stud! Thanks for all you do and best of luck w/this latest project. You may want to touch base w/Samm Diep-Vidal since she is in charge of the BEF.

I am moving to a location where I can put in tables and cameras and tvs to try and have a "best practices" type of training facility for pool.

My business will fund the rent and overhead. I may at some point charge something for a membership of some sort to offset some of the costs of acquiring equipment and training materials.

Since I have been asked for donations for 20 years I think I will ask for contributions as well and of course will offer promotion and recognition for that help.

Within the next few weeks a lot will be coming together and when we have tables set up and something to show we will ask for help from you all.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I hope on some small level this is an inspiration for those who are able to do something similar in their area.

Well I guess that lends to a higher success ratio i guess, and as many have said wish you the best and thank you for stepping up and doing something.
One suggestion I would like to make is taken from a page in my life. At the start make the kids pay $1 for each time the come, just to teach them a lesson in life but even as time goes by and if you do raise this fee put it aside for each player "unknowing to them" so that one day when they want to buy a stick or enter a tourney you can present that money to them and say "this is from your savings", second lesson in life learnt.
I'm guess grades are going to be focus or incentive where applicable also?

Thanks. I am not sure what form this will take but whatever happens we will try to get the kids to treat pool as a sport.

I am pretty sure I won't be the one deciding on the junior format so I can't say whether grades will be part of it.

Awesome!
Without the young people , pool will die.
Way to put your money where your mouth is John!
Wait, that's not a new thing for you , is it!

You're a good man John Barton! All that passion and big heart is finally gonna show through to everybody.
Let us know how we can help, what's needed, what's wanted etc. You have a huge family that you can count on.

Everybody, deep down, wants to give back. Sometimes it's hard to figure out how to do that. Maybe something like this can bring us all together.

If I were a vendor/cue maker, cloth mfg etc, I would strongly consider asking you to place my banner in your facility.

I suspect at some time in the future, you may consider live-streaming the training lessons.

Skin in the game!

I LIKE THIS A LOT!

Once upon a time, I asked a well-recognized sports psychologist that I was working with if he would consider coaching the USA Mosconi Cup Team, pro bono. His answer was something that reminds me when people ask me for free pool lessons. He said "Joey, I would be HONORED to work with the USA Mosconi Cup Team, however it has been my life-long experience that the person on the receiving in MUST HAVE SOME SKIN IN THE DEAL, not only financially, but mentally and emotionally." He went on to elaborate about many things surrounding this subject which all made sense to me, so I like the students having some skin in the game.

Thanks for reminding me about "skin in the game".

They will take away what works best for them and what makes the game fun.

THIS.

I hope that this doesn't turn into an aiming debate. Good on you for supporting your local pool scene. As long as you promote your players having fun, I'm sure the improvement will come along easily.

Interested!!!

I would be interested in coming and staying a MONTH maybe more.

Things I would look for...

** Qualified Instructors
** Good Equipment
** Personal Guidance on things I'm doing wrong
** Champion Player or Players ON Site

To much to ask!!!
I don't know, but these are the things i would look for.

Ok it's not THAT high level of a facility yet. But your idea is a very good one. At one time I got the opportunity to train at the Mission Viejo diving facility and to this day it remains one of the coolest experiences in my life having had access to the best equipment and coaches.

But I do think that this is the right track.

I did ask Bustamante if he would be open to hosting pool-tourists who wanted to come to pool fantasy camp. He said of course they would be open to it. I thought of things like a week with him and Efren as your personal coaches in their element.

We are starting out small and who knows....maybe we will grow into the sort of place that can turn out champions. I have plenty of "what not to do" video of myself playing to scare them into a straight stroke. :-)
