And the fan support extends father. I'd bet that if you ask the average Joe in the UK who SVB or Bergman are they would know. I can ask the locals here if they know who Daz or Feijen is and they'd be clueless. I could ask them if they know who SVB is and I bet only half of them could answer.

I wouldn't go that far. The only pool player people would be able to name would be Strickland. With snooker, they may get a few, although not many of the current crop (aside from Ronnie).

If I asked every person in a pool hall in the UK who Darren Appleton was, I doubt more than a handful would know - especially if it were in June or something (i.e. not when the Mosconi cup is on).
 
Is the mosconi cup today still being shown at 11am pst on ESPN3? Saw something bout 7om on sky net 1 during the end of the broadcast that threw me off to when it's being shown

Really? You think there's more than 32,000,000 people in the UK know who Bergman is?! Crikey.

I'd wager that even if you asked only those people actually playing 9b in a pool hall that less than 1 in 10 would have the faintest idea. I'll give you 2/1 as well. You in?

I wasn't basing rankings on money, but on tournament ranking points - which is how the OWGR ranks the players. The "PGA" isn't the only pro tour. They use results from Alps Tour Golf, Asian Development Tour, Asian Tour, EuroPro Tour, European Challenge Tour, Japan Golf Tour, Korean Golf Tour, Nordic Golf League, OneAsia, PGA European Tour, PGA Tour, PGA Tour Canada, PGA Tour China, PGA Tour Latinoamérica, PGA Tour of Australasia, ProGolf Tour, Sunshine Tour and Web.com Tour

To use PGA tour results is NATURALLY biased to the US, because all but a few tournaments are held on US soil - British Open, Australian, Canadian, World Match Play, are the handful of international events. So, when 85% of your events are held in the US, which country do you think will have the most players attending the event? Duh.

If you look at WORLD results, and not just the events in your backyard, you get the big picture. Which more than a few of you are missing.

And, if you base your results on money from golf, Elin Woods is the second highest earner on the money list from the PGA, and she's never swung a club, except at Tiger's Buick.

I think this sets up the best match ups for the US with the exception of Deuel vs Daz. Hopefully they can leave the misses on the practice table and get some momentum early on. If they can last until Deuel he'll be primed up and ready to go. Let's see some heart USA!

Anyone else notice that the guys are lined up in the order they are playing?
 
There is nothing left to do at this point but think this sets up the best match ups for the US thus far...We'll need special performances and some good rolls today to have a chance...

HUH? Gotta win 4 out of 5 to tie and sweep to win. Would you actually bet your cash that either scenario is likely? Maybe if Corey could catch some "Vegas mystery flu" and be replaced by someone that won't dog it.
 
I believe Boyes has a 14-3 record at this point, the fact that Chamat put him second in the lineup after Niels means he is going for the kill shot early. I think that's a hell of a mistake from the Captain that may just bite him in the ass. I probably would have started with Daz and NVB this year just cause they're not having a good Cup and saved my hot guys for the end while the USA HAS to play the best they have first just to stay alive.

USA strategy is spot on but I am completely puzzled by the lineup Euro put together...shit makes no sense to me. They had a chance to give themselves a decided advantage and instead they are choosing to clash at the top.

I predicted the Euro lineup. Boyes is second cause the hope is Neils wins and then Boyes gets to play the final match and do all of his theatrics. You know Boyes would want nothing more. And they are saving Appleton for the end if needed, who before the MC started was probably thought of as their best player.

When you are making a dumb point you shouldn't try to back it up with things like the "Alps Tour Golf". Just look at the Majors which is the true picture of what every pro golfer aspires to. Europe is way outclassed. I think it has been about 20 years since a European won the Masters.

I think Chamat has made the right choice instead. When you're at 9 and you only need 2 points for the win (plus you have 3 points advantage) you have to go for the kill straight away. You can't afford to let your opponents come close to you, because if you do that the psychological advantage will be huge and all for the USA team coming from behind. Even if he's kept the best players for last, the pressure could make them choke for fun. Plus, Van der Berg is a lost case indeed but Appleton, even if he's struggling, I don't think he can lose a match to a player like Deuel. Only Van der Berg has succeeded to such an impossible task.

And you're using the tournaments hosted in the USA as the measuring stick. Again, you can't see the forest for the trees. EVERY American pro will go to the Masters, if they have qualified for it. Not every European golf professional will go across the pond to play the Masters. They may play a different tournament that weekend closer to home. You DO know there are other golf tournaments BESIDES the US events, right?

Do me a favour and look at the entries into the Masters. Count up the number of players. And then see how many come from the US. You'll find a 90%+ American field.

In the past 10 years, an American player has won the World Match Play Championship a total of 3 times. Hardly the "dominance" you seem to portray. Again, WORLD EVENT. You know, when other people besides Americans show up to play.....
 
My pregame has consisted of watching the first 3 matches of the 2012 Cup final day. Down the same score 9-6, the US surges back with Hatch, Archer, and SVB to draw even. I won't mention what happened next but goddamn did Johnny play out of his mind in that cup. Biggest regret was not seeing him get a chance to play that Captain's Pick match.
