You-tube ripping us off must read

Loads of PPV events on Youtube, huh? :roll eyes:

You have no business plan. The operational costs of sites like youtube are astronomical, never mind the prohibitive capital investment required. To even suggest an independent alternative could be funded purely through advertising revenue for a site whose content is restricted to a niche sport is the special kind of crazy reserved for the wilfully ignorant.

You've already dodged a challenge to cite your source of $500,000 (because it's pure fantasy) and you've openly admitted one of your goals is to make money for yourself.

Best of luck in your endeavours, but, I'm out!
Exactly sir.

Pool hosts only a hand full of events here adding over 25k. Let's walk before we run.

So you just inadvertently disrespected every pool player on earth with that comment. That their art and talent is worth nothing? Are you in the right forum?

No he didn't. He made a statement that provided some perspective. To the world, Seinfeld has worth. Pool? I'd rather take .1% of Seinfeld action.

Do I wish it was different? A little. I also wish I could make 6 figures riding my bike all day. And my neighbor, with the jewelry, and that kid down the stereo with the guitar, and that bastardized with the noisy Subaru who tears down the street every morning at 6:15, and my wife's cousin, she can draw like a photograph and...

The list of hobbies is endless. The pay is minimal.

name one pool player has gotten a check from youtube for a video in which they were one of the players in a video??? can any of you name one? probably not....but i bet there was a check issued to someone who filmed the player .... or the person who posted it... but did they pay the player ? answer me that just one of you give me a name.........

craZyErica ... what a screen name ... lol ... craZy is why we love ya!

About 3-4 years ago Youtube sent me a check for $34.95. Now, it wasn't worth the bullshit I had to go through to monetize my video - but I did get paid. I don't have many matches posted on Youtube - mostly just instructional stuff and straight pool runs from Derby City mixed in with a couple of old ESPN matches - but, Erica, if you tell me where the players can make a little something-something from those videos - I'll post them there and take them off of Youtube immediately.

Advertisers pay youtube based on the amount of views of their ads.

You can make a "you.pool.com" site if you want but good luck finding any advertisers willing to pay anyone for videos that at best get a couple thousand views.

There was a big fuss a while back when nintendo got every "let's play" video of their games removed from youtube because they didn't think it was fair that some guys in their basement made $15 a month playing their games. The guys who made those videos and all their followers just decided to boycott anything nintendo and all it got nintendo was loss of people doing free advertising for their games. I can't count the amount of games i've bought after watching someone else play on youtube or twitch.

You have a basic misconception -
Let's for a moment just go with the premise that your $500,000 claim is correct and can be proven. So you are claiming the pool players are entitled to a share of that. One major problem....there's no profit there. YouTube as a company breaks even or slightly loses money for Google. Their server maintenance costs are prohibitive and every person with AdBlock running on their browser costs them money every time they go to YouTube.
So yes, YouTube is bringing in money from the views in their site, but there is NO profit to be distributed in their current model.

talk about me knowing my facts???

This is what you need to do. You need to teach each pool player to have their own channel. Then any time there is a video of them on a stream, it gets posted to their channel. Once they get enough views, they can get paid by YouTube. So if you appear on BigTrucks stream you agree to do so to be paid by him and you also get the right to the video and you get paid in the future as well. Then each player can promote themselves and get 40 million followers like the video game expert. They could even make their own videos - some pool related, some just showing their personalities that make them so special.

Please read and share this facebook post!! It is very important for pool players.....

Pool players have zero leverage except on an individual basis , and zero collectively because they are day laborers . The people they would have to deal with for compensation are the streamers . I'm guessing streamers profit margins are slim . I think i saw Dave Matlock refuse to play on a Shooter's stream from Olathe , not sure if not being paid for appearing was his motivation.

If it weren't for calcuttas the pickings would even be more slim. I believe that calcutta money was even listed on some players AZB earnings list. It is probably good that room owners who have events for the most part try not to schedule events on top of one another.

Instead of worrying about YouTube may be the should , you know , some top players shop around funding a tour to corporate America and call their own shots , of course no sleeping late and drinking beer late into the night , and then the politics and back biting that will be inevitable when any money becomes involved.

Professional pool needs a strong man like Assad , Saddam or Kevin Trudeau who have the resources to fund and call all the shots , otherwise you just have confusion . They players compensation would be having the opportunity at a free roll tournament.

I asked a pro (who first off I had no idea had a youtube channel and I still can't find it) to post a video of himself when he has time taking/performing any of the skill test available and his first words were "what's in it for me" I said well being as popular as you are I don't think you'll have a problem with view and you'll get paid from youtube. We haven't spoken since.
China Open, World Pool Masters, all of these events can be seen on youtube with no kick back to the players how is the OP suggesting that we change that since there is no body to regulate the matter and the players don't seem to care, i'm sure Ronnie O doesn't get a kick back but I bet he promotes himself well enough other than that and this is where he can be compensated for use of his image.
I think if you find a body to rule over pool so that players can get royalties paid it will made them into bigger jerks (some)
Oh wait, can I get paid for being on a stream of those this plan only apply to Pro players

At least you were smart enough not to include this little nugget in your original post.

Yes, billiard videos on YouTube receive over 100 million views a year, especially the videos that or "full length".

Could you provide a few links? I found a couple carambola videos with >1mil views. Not the common case, and even so a tiny viewership compared to what is needed to really be successful.

How do you think the "degenerates" you speak of would do?

You want to talk page views? You need Psy to do a "billiards video" - you might not be able to stand it, but that's what gets the lions share of views on Youtube these days. (2,475,979,335 and counting for that video...)

That's awesome BackJack! You've always supported all of us online and the live streams. Thank you.

This is also another sad reality, is that we can't have hard calculated facts and anaylitics. So, a entity the represents the body of pool from a online standpoint, such as for videos, would be able to use or leverage the anaylitics to attract sponsorship and advertisment from outside sources.

pool players if you must use youtube at least do this....

crash course for pool players.....

How many views does it take to make money on YouTube? This is a common question asked and it really depends on who you ask. You may have heard that you’ll make one dollar per thousand views or that it’s $1,000 per Million Views. Some say it’s $5 per thousand views. Well, we’re asking the wrong question. We should be asking, “How much ENGAGEMENT does it take to make money on YouTube?”

You don’t make money based on the amount of views you have. You make money based on people’s engagement with the ad. Engagement here means clicking or watching a ad for more than 30 seconds. YouTube Advertising is managed in the Adwords platform. Advertisers choose ads on a Cost Per Click (CPC) or Cost Per View (CPV) model.

Types of Ads
Cost Per Click (CPC)
CPC is when an advertiser pays money based on clicks. So if a certain keyword has a CPC of $3 and someone clicks on that ad, it will charge that advertiser $3. These text ads pop up in the lower part of the screen during the video and can also show up as a square banner on the right side of your channel.

Cost Per View (CPV)
CPV is when an advertiser pays money based on views. A view for the advertiser means someone watches an Ad for at least 30 seconds or half of the ad; whichever comes first. That person could click that ad 50 times but it still wouldn’t charge the advertiser more because they’re not paying for the click, they’re paying for the view.

TrueView: Pre-Roll, In-Search & In-Display Ads
Pre-Roll Ads are the ads that act as a preview before the video starts and viewers can skip it after 5 seconds.

In-Search Ads show up in the search results and are surrounded by a light yellow box.

In-Display Ads show up on the right side of YouTube in the suggested video area

* There are also third party pre-roll ads that force users to watch for a certain amount of time. Since these forced don’t apply to the majority I’m leaving them out.

Where Attentions Go, Ads Will Flow
Advertisers only pay when someone clicks an ad or watches for 30 seconds. This is why you can’t tie your channel views to dollars. If your video gets ten million views but nobody watches or click the ads, you don’t make any money. This is how I’m able to make $1 per 25 views. Advertisers pay big money to get their ad in front of specific and targeted audience.

One of my YouTube Channels happens to provide valuable video content for this specific audience. This channel teaches business owner how to organize their finances, track their expenses and save money on taxes. Any company who is trying to reach business owners would love to place their ads on my channel because we both share the same demographic. The people who view my channel are their potential customers.

How Can You Make More Money on Your YouTube Channel?
There are a couple of easy steps that you can implement right now that will make you more money per view. The first thing you need to do is…

1. Take a Sniper Approach
Advertisers want targeted YouTube channels with a defined demographic. They’d much rather place their ads on a specific type of person than a random user. Think of this as a narrow sniper approach vs the wide spray of a shotgun.

Make your videos with a specific type of person in mind. This is basic advertising 101; identifying your target demographic. Don’t tell me that your demographics are 21 – 55 year old women. This is the shotgun approach that’s too general and vague. Do you talk to a 21 year old girl the same way you’d talk to a 55 year old lady? Of course not. Define your audience and create videos that’s catered to them.

2. Target KeyWords with a High CPC
Understand this, Certain KeyWords Pay More than Others. Advertisers will pay more for the keyword, “home mortgage” (CPC $17.63) than “cheap phone cases” (CPC $1.38) because the end return is a lot higher. If someone ends up closing on a home loan that could make them upwards of $5,000+, whereas the end return on a cheap phone case would only be $15. Would you rather get paid from a phone case video that gets a million views with a CTR of 0.01% or a home mortgage video that only gets 10,000 views with a CTR of 0.08% ? Consider the scenarios below with the given keywords and their cost per clicks.

mortgage vs cases

Scenario 1 You make a video reviewing the new iPhone that gets 1,000,000 views, of which your ad Click Through Rate (CTR) is 0.1%. Meaning 1,000 people clicked the ad. If the CPC is $1.38 the total advertising dollars made would be $1,380. Google keeps around 45% making your payout $759. This gives you $1 per 1,317 views

Scenario 2 You make a video teaching people about home loans that gets 10,000 views, of which your ad Click Through Rate (CTR) is 0.8%. Meaning 80 people clicked the ad. If the CPC is $17.63 the total advertising dollars the total advertising made would be $1,410. Google keeps around 45% leaving your payout $776. This gives you about $1 per 13 views.

These scenarios are exaggerated to show the point. The money you make on YouTube has more to do with what advertisers pay for than how many views you get.

This knowledge is essential is to make the most amount of money per view. If you have a very targeted niche that contains high CPC keywords, you don’t need millions of views to make money. Getting a couple hundred views a day could bring in a couple hundred bucks a month!

now pool players please if you are ging to use youtube PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE monetize your accounts. Then if you see videos thAT ARE up without your permission flag them as a violation of intellectual property ! you are the ones with the skills !

the railbirds dont want to see you make it!
