Anyone has the equivalent power of YouTube, Google, Facebook, Vpaid Ads. It's based upon impressions and clicks. All that can be done privately with a website. To boot? You get 100% of that revenue, whereas on YouTube, you get a fraction of it.
Yeah, but you can't host a real streaming site on most of the inexpensive hosting providers and the ones that let you will hose you on bandwidth and storage. What you end up doing is putting your site up as a shell to another streaming service and then you get hosed on that end.
Also, you'll need someone with a clue to setup the ad click system for you. Most advertisers won't pay for view (needle drop, impression, etc.) anymore and you are stuck either accepting the click system or the integration method the way amazon likes to advertise. And, once again, someone with at least a partial clue will need to set that up or it falls apart pretty fast.
So yes, you can host it yourself and get 100% of the revenue but then you're going to be paying for infrastructure in one aspect or another.
