Thank you, Phil Capelle: 25th Joss Tour Turning Stone Results w/Payouts

That is one of the reasons that a lot of players are in China or over seas right now. I think there is more money available or being paid out. Like any major sport that is based on prize money very few are real sucessful and rely on sponsors. Even NASCAR for as large and sucessful as it is the drivers could not afford to compete without sponsors.

What I don't understand is reading about track runners getting sponsored in the millions. How many watch or participate in events like that to get that kind of sponsorship? I don't know of anyone that attended a pro track event or even where and when they are held.

🎱
When you can fill 30,000 to 60,000 seats at $200 or more a pop, and get $cash from live ty....then the pool players will have a shot at the big $ money.....no paying audience , no tv money = $0 added to the entry fees......just the generous added money by those that love pool.

Did any American players cash in the Chinese 8 ball tournament over the weekend?
I can't find results anywhere.

Sorry but Turning Stone is not a Major Title.

Chinese 8ball Masters past weekend unless finish top 6 waste of time been there really..

So Shane and Corey didn't make any money.they were both outside top 32 from a 64 man field.

Yang Fan won the event again.
highest foreign player was Alex he placed 8th. top 7 were Chinese.

So financially speaking, would it have been a better move to play in Turning Stone for Shane and Corey? Even though the payouts can't compare to Chinese 8 ball, the better odds of cashing along with less travel expenses makes Turning Stone seem like the logical choice. Unless there was appearance fees or sponsor obligations involved with China.

China was all expenses paid plus food and drink .. So didn't cost them anything with obviously big first prize ..

And bigger event.. Obviously they want to learn the game and try and get good at it makes sense in long run I guess..

People seem to forget that Turning Stone started out as a Joss Tour Championship as a way to give back to JOSS tour players for supporting the tour.
It wasn't until some Pros saw that local pros who played on the JOSS tour, in their minds, had the best of it, that they flocked to the event trying to scalp the tournament themselves.
Ever since then, the names have shown up religiously.
Sure, since it's inception, it has morphed into something more, but given that the pros are always there, the tournament runs like clockwork, and that it's in the nicest venue in the country is probably why people think it is a "major" even though it is still, a regional tour championship for all intensive purposes.

The point schedule used in post #1 is the Category 2 schedule used in 2015. Has there been any announcement from Matchroom Sport yet that it is remaining the same for 2016?

Matchroom did, indeed, change the points schedules for 2016. So here is an update to post #1 for the USA Team's Mosconi Cup points earned at Turning Stone XXV:

3rd place -- Oscar Dominguez, 35 points

4th -- Rodney Morris, 33 points

5th/6th -- Shaun Wilkie, 28 points

7th/8th -- Hunter Lombardo, 23 points

9th/12th -- Mike Dechaine and Dennis Hatch, 18 points

13th/16th -- Johnny Archer, 13 points

17th/24th -- James Adams, Mark Creamer, Tom D'Alfonso, Bucky Souvanthong, and Brandon Shuff, 8 points

25th/32nd -- Jennifer Barretta, Ron Casanzio, Karen Corr (if US citizen), Hendrik Drost, Kyle Pepin, and Jeremy Sossei, 5 points

Internationally Track & Field is still huge.

I used to go to the Coliseum Relays--later called the Sunkist Relays--when they consistently drew 40-50,000 fans.
