When is Dennis gonna learn how to shake hands

And this why pool culture is the way it is. Again, if some are okay with this status quo, then so be it.

If you think pool is going back to the days of tuxedoes and bow ties with proper etiquette at all times, that ain't happening in this lifetime.

When you're sad or sometimes even depressed about a loss, sportsmanship is the last thing on your mind.

And that is why it's call character. "Character is what you are in the dark." (or what you do when you are depressed about a loss).

Thank you kindly.

Do Japanese players do that in Japan? If they do, then I'd do the same thing if playing a match in Japan, if that's the custom.

Of course they do. The Japanese bow after (and before) everything. And believe me, you will feel like a total schmuck if you don't bow back. In fact you will feel like a schmuck that you got the bow wrong (and you will, there are many subtleties about which bow is used for which event and which person).

Thank you kindly.

You are having psychological problems over how a pool player shakes hands with another pool player. The forum has reached a new level.

The control freaks and micro mangers are taking over pool. I don't care if someone doesn't shake my hand when I win. I don't care what Dennis or any other pool player does. I do enjoy watching Dennis play pool because he is a great player and as far as I know a good person.

I think American players are actually the biggest offenders of this. I really wish I didn't use Dennis as my example. The guy is an awesome champion and has my respect.

So you are a mind reader you know what he is thinking?

I tend to form opinions on people I meet and interact with as thats how you truly get to know a person. The OP has his opinion, which may be correct, but I will hold my judgement on any person until they do wrong by me.

handshake, or bowing down, i think it is not a cultural thing. im sure if dennis won, he would offer a handshake. i guess it's a personal or competetive thing. pinoys know how to handshake, it is just an excuse, im pinoy.

C'mon, let's not be being overly sensitive here.

The OP expressed his opinion on how *Dennis* (not all Filipino players) shakes hands. I happen to agree with the OP. Turning your head while shaking hands simply does not come across as very sportsmanlike. It's okay if you or anyone else disagrees with that.

Obviously we all have varying standards as to what constitutes sportsmanlike and unsportsmanlike behavior. Some have higher standards than others. Some professional sports have higher standards than others. If some want to hold pool players at a much lower standards than other more established sports/games (e.g. golf, tennis, snooker), then so be it.

(And FWIW, I'm of Filipino descent.)

Not once have I ever paid any attention to how anybody shakes hands. I put this in the category of people putting the chalk upside down on the rail, people using powder, people using headphones and thousands of other things which irritate some people. Some people just look for something to gripe about.

What the **** did Efren ever do to anybody and yet there was a thread recently calling for him to retire because he wasn't aesthetically pleasing to someone. A 60 year old man beat Appleton on a 10' table and instead of discussing what an amazing accomplishment it was somebody called for him to retire.

It isn't Orcollo or Efren who have the problem, it is the people griping about them who have the problem. Find another hobby.

it's a rivalry thing, dennis is having a hard time winning against Shane. i cant blame him for the handshake. pinoys make up excuses for the handshake, Some american fans is faulting him for not giving the handshake. I guess overall, Dennis has an image problem in the US.

Exactly. I wonder if some of these people have ever been in a pool hall. I've been in places where I was just glad to get paid and get safely out the door with the cash without being assaulted.

The guy turned his head while shaking hands!!!!!!! Ban him for life!!!!!

You have a serious reading problem if that's what you took away from my thread on Efren.

I wonder how some would do playing in the south of the Philippines where there are several people carrying M-16's and 45's in the pool hall .:eek::eek:
Tell us Jay. :D
My late best friend used to stake Dennis in Quezon City. They would head out to a local bowling alley/pool hall adjacent to a mall. My friend said, Dennis was the most trustworthy horse he's ever had. He'd leave him in the pool hall , go shopping and come back. Dennis never failed him.

Another thing...

Another thing about the good old "American Hand Shake". I find it is good for me to congratulate a player who just beat me. It helps me to be the kind of person I want to be and some times struggle being. When I do it I am not being fake. If some one else is then that is their problem. I don't think a hand shake should be mandatory. Imagine shaking hands with Earl when he is in his "Earl place" and just lost . No thanks and I would now even try unless he approached me. I think on his worst day Dennis has showed better sportsmanship then Earl has.

As for a cultural thing. If your in the U.S follow our customs and respect them and we should do the same in your country. Our immigration problem for the last 50 years is proof enough we live in the greatest country on earth and I am not changing to fit into someone's culture and I won't loose any sleep over some ones limp wrist hand shake.

I wish pool had a better image and players and spectators were interested in the game because the pro's drew them in with enthusiasm and charisma and displays of good sportsmanship.

At my age I some times over think things.

You are giving English! a serious run for his money as the worst poster on this site. He clarified what he meant in that thread after Nostrokes post, but you failed to read and went on one of your usual standard nonsense rants. Do we need to order you a Rosetta Stone?

Correction, Dennis did shake Shane's hand but some people here have a problem with the manner of how he did it (looking the other way, not staring at Shane's eyes, etc). But at least he made the effort and did not throw a tantrum during the game when he was losing, even when he fell behind by 0-5. My opinion is he was more disgusted with himself when he missed the easy shot late in the game.
