As stated by others, hold out for a good buy. It will come up and once you have it, you will have it forever, if you choose.

Many times, when people sell tables, they need em gone, so they go cheap.

Another alternative to waiting: find out who the best mechanic in your area is and let him know what you wast. Those guys often know who has them for sale, or even have em in storage. Benefit for going this way is that you are approaching 100% certainty that you will get the table you think you are getting in a one stop shopping experience.

How do i find out who the best mechanic is? There is an independent billiard shop here and he seems to know his stuff, but this will be my first table.

Its kinda high, imo. The place i play bought 4 GC4's for $1200ea. Owner had to drive 500mi. to get them but they're like new. Staple holes show they've only been recovered once since new. Guy had them stored, wrapped in plastic. Great tables but that price is more than i'd spend. If you like the deal, jump on it.
 
Dont know if there is any wiggle room, but there is a fantastic restored 9ft GC1 on ebay right now, in San Antonio.
 
I had an 8' table but furniture grade. Then went with a mint condition GC IV 9'. Pro delivery, set up, new 860. It looked brand freakin' new. $2,500. That was four years ago. I will never give up this table. It's even in my will.

If ya come ta Colorado, I can probably get ya three GC II's for 2K, with restored aprons (They used to be in my room). Been in storage so ya may need new cushions, but if ya have storage set one up and list the other two and if someone is interested have em look at yours that's set up, there in zip code 80904. You could possibly break even on your whole venture, but it's a long drive. I got em from John Abruzzo in Chicago about 12 years ago.

Not intending to jump the OP's thread but since we're on the subject of value.........but why is a GCIII considered to be a black sheep? There's a good condition III in storage near me for $600. It's in great shape and I've played on it. It was just taken apart for storage. Why should I not buy it???? Mitch
Tell me if I should start my own thread too.

Nothing wrong with a GoldCrown III... Nothing different than a GC1 or GC2... The fixes are the same for just about all of them...


If you REALLY want a good deal on a pool table~> I've got eight 9' pool tables and a 6x12 snooker I'll sell ya for $1200.00 <~ takes em all'

pro 8?

I thought the op stated pro 8 table size. I have a pro 8 setup with extended rails and simonis 860. I have no trouble playing on a 9 in tournaments or straight pool league. My table came with a house, lol, at least that's what my wife says. I will say that I could not put a 9 in, probably would have.

He did say 8 footer. But he also said the reason was the deal more or less fell in his lap. He has room for a 9 foot table and the patience to wait so that is why the focus has turned to the big track. Most of us feel like you do, go big if you have the room. :thumbup:

Didn't he say "pro 8 foot"?

I believe that a pro 8 foot is darn close to a 4.5 X 9

You can get a 9 foot gold crown for 800 to 1200 now. You can disassemble and move it with a buddy or 2. Then have it setup with new cloth for about 500 total. You can get into a table for under 2k.

8 foot table doesn't play the same as a 7 or 9 footer. Position zones entirely different.

I'd pass on the Gandy too, but there's nothing wrong with a GC 3.
 
Hey Realking, what started the rumors/misconceptions that the GC3 has problems? I keep hearing from people(complete non-mechanics,btw) that the GC3 is inferior in some way. Could you clear this up? Thanks in advance.
