AMAZING! RARE! Ebony SOUTHWEST Inlaid by Paul Mottey.
Here is a true time capsule. In Pristine condition!
Best of both worlds!!!
Having an early 1990's Ebony Jerry Franklin completely built at the SW shop, then sent to Paul Mottey just to add the inlays.
A piece of History. I had to hit a few balls with it HOLY COW!!
LOA from SW cues and Authenticated by Paul Mottey on bottom of same letter.
This cue and many others will be available at SBE "HighEndCues" booth #256-257
Best,
Ken

At a loss

Sorry but I guess I am confused. I understand it is an old Franklin Southwest that had no inlays.

It was sent to Paul Mottey to do the inlays, then sent back to Southwest?

I understand that John Wright did this quite a bit on old cues to bump up the price he could resell them for to the next customer.

Why is this special?

No knock, but I don't understand. There is a Black Boar that comes up for sale every so many years that has had ivory inlays added by someone other than Tony. It absolutely killed the value.

Thanks,

Ken

Hey Ken,
There were a few SW's over the years that have had this treatment done. For no other reason then SW didn't do this kind of work to the cue. They did their fancy cues, but it was limited to their style. SW never did a veneer box cue, and this was a popular design that was liked. Paul Mottey did a very nice Box cue, so it came to be.

Dean Cambell was the main force having these cues produced back in the day, as he still does today. (Dean probably sold them to John) Not many people had the pull to have this accomplished since it wasn't common practice for cue makers to work on each others cues.
Another RARE SW cue that I've had was a SW made with a Verl Horn nose piece( 8 Ivory Points). Not the same as everyone else using a Titlist blank.

The SW box cues are a known piece of history from both cue makers.
Laurie is very familiar with cues that had Paul's work added. Can't say the same with the BB.

When I say Rare, How many Jerry SW w/ Paul Mottey inlays have you seen? Not many! Are there going to be any more NO. Jerry has passed on, and Paul is retired. I know of a few post Jerry cues (Newer SW's) that have had this done.
Comparing someone inlaying a BB isn't a parallel, since this isn't the 1st time a SW/Mottey box cue has been done. This example doesn't sneak up on most collectors it is a known limited commodity.

Ken, I would have been more then happy to explain my definition of "Rare" by IM if you were confused.

Best,
Ken

This Cue says Deano! Probably worth a fortune and sold for a tad of it's value today to help some poor soul. Like the song says,
" With a little help from his friends."

I recall seeing a Jerry ' S/W
IVORY HANDLED CUE...
With a western theme sketched or drawn on the cue,
by a particular artist
Also a really awesome cue"

Laurie Franklin made the cue and shafts, then sent the cue to me so that Paul Mottey
could do the inlays

With her full approval and intent, john wright was not involved in any way

This cue was not a plain cue that I bought somewhere and afterwards had paul inlay it without the knowledge or approval of Laurie Franklin

I had about 4 of these done like this and sold them all,ken has turned down an offer from me to buy it back for much more than I sold it originally

I liked the cues and the idea,as many of you know laurie at South West makes super cues, and Paul
Mottey did some of the best inlay work in the world,so I was very proud to get these few cues

The question might come to your mind,Why did Dean sell these if he likes them so much?

the only reason I can think of is that I love selling cues, especially to people who love the cues.

Others have speculated with opinions that may be nearer the truth but
my intelligence was called into question.

I would be better off financially had I held on to it.

Best wishes to ken,my offer still stands

Duane,
I'm familiar with that SW. A fantastic cue.
You are correct, it was sent out to do the work in the handle.
One of the RAREST Southwests ever made.
Best,
Ken

technically the cue was not sent out so etc

the unfinished cue was sent to mottey and he finished the cue from that point
it was never sent to south west again

again I love the cue and want to buy it again
