FargoRate Alex Pagulayan

If you are referring to the US top 10 list, he is Canadian.

Alex is in the 19th spot on the Fargo Rate world rankings. If I were using I gut, I would rate him higher than quite a few of the people on the list ahead of him, but I guess Mike Page's algorithms don't take into account my gut!

I hate to admit it but i never heard of fargo until last week
but Alex is in my top 5 and i am not sure who the other 4 are

You wouldn'T want to be accused of being a pool detecive, now would you?:grin-square:

To put it in perspective, though, he's only 5 points out of the top 10. One good tournament (that's not one-pocket ;-)) can get him there.

Also, have you noted he's #45 on WPA rankings?

Alex is ranked 7,839 on the all time money list (best rank) in the poker world...
...his current rank is 84,934.

Alex plays poker better than that, but his winnings in cash games aren't taken into account.

His pool game for the cash is much better than his pool ranking also.

I think Fargorate is one of the best things that have happened to pool lately...
....it just needs more information and interaction.

The fact is you'll always have players that have plenty of matches for cash that are never reported ,,
But what difference does it make anyway ,, Fargo is nice talking piece but it doesn't have a use other than that in pro pool that I can see

Really and just what is its use in pro events ,

Nothing, but it's an accurate gauge of speed if you have enough data.

I said nothing of its use for pro tournaments, only that it works pretty good with enough info.

FargoRate is a great tool if a tournament is seeded.
...and it's very fair....it is based on what you've actually done....
...rather than on how good people think you are.

I remember the old Mosconi Cup system based on BCA rankings...
...some players said it wasn't fair because they hadn't played in enough ranking events...
...well, it was fair, IMO.....you want points, support the game.

I'm considering leaving AZ for good.......the stupidity here has reached epedemic proportions.

I do not really know anything about how Fargo rate works, but I do not think it is good at predicting who is going to win a match and what their odds are of winning against a certain player. I can't remember the details, but I have seen some matches where Fargo showed a player to have like a 70% chance of winning, and then the other player ended up winning the match. Fargo can't predict the future of a players chances of winning, because there are so many factors to consider. I would not use Fargo as a tool for betting and odds on the money.

I am hoping these Fargo Ratings work themselves out because now in it's infancy, they are way, way off. Maybe when everyone becomes "established" the dust will settle.

Odds are odds. If a player is 70% to win you would have to assume the other player will win 30% therefore fargo may still be 100% correct.

If you have a 70% chance of surviving surgery does that guarantee you live??? Think about it.

I can think of about 200 reasons for you to stay, Jason....
....there are at least 200 good posters on here.

It would be like leaving a good action room....'cause you watched a player that can't hit the end rail.

The thing about the Fargo rate scores is that the top 50 are all very close. Mike Page pointed out that Alex is only 5 points out of the top 10 and those five points can come in one or two sets. The way the system is set up there will always be some variation.
