Hello all, great site. I was fortunate to learn the game of pool from my grandfather, who taught me the importance of english vs slamming balls around..I grew up on a GC 3 I believe it was, and since have owned a few tables, mostly imports until now. I am very lucky to have met recently a mentor who is helping me refine my taste in not only the game, but the tables that have been long forgotten..

I am recently semi-retired and have begun refurbishing antique Brunswick tables. I am by no means a pro, but love to work with wood and have found a lot of joy and therapy working on these absolutely beautiful tables from the past.

My first project was a 9' Saratoga 6-leg, refinished, colored, and satin finished in a little under 8 weeks, and i now show her proudly in my home.

my second project is a 10' Newport Carom, not a lot of work to do actually, with a light refinish of the 1/4 sawn oak, it looks as good as the day it did new(1908-1909 I believe)

Next I have a 9' Medalist that will be a very long project, lots of veneer work.

2 Gold Crown 3's, on the back burner...and one Peter Vitalie Sterling that was a display only currently for sale.

Can anyone guide me towards the best threads on antique projects, I am anxious to learn more about the methods and materials that the pros use here.

thanks, Taylor

Welcome to the forum, sir.

I'd also love to see some before and after photographs of your work. What a wonderfully rewarding hobby to take up in semi-retirement, I'm very envious! :)

thanks guys

pics of Saratoga

my first project, Saratoga 6-leg 9'. Installed and playing beautifully. I am going to send in the original pockets for rework, these are just temporary, and do not fit correctly.

Welcome, Taylor AZ. Glad you're here. We can always use a good mechanic around these parts.
Make sure you show up Monday evening for the new member orientation and social get together. It'll be held in the second meeting room off the main auditorium from seven until nine o'clock pm.. Mr. Howerton will be giving the keynote address entitled: "Mom, Dad, the alarm clock. Coincidence?"
Don't be late.

thx Tramp. Can you please translate into something a simple Mesa boy can understand..

:)
Tramp is pulling your leg so to speak :) he is always good for a few laughs

Welcome aboard and looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Welcome Taylor,

Looks like you do wonderful work with the tables. If I can offer one suggestions it would be " Don't forget the rails." I am sure I don;t speak for everyone here but I am sure many would agree. We all like lovely tables but what we pool-a-holics care about even more is how they play. And the rails play a huge part in how a table plays. I am not a table mechanic, so please don't ask, but i am sure a lot of info on the rails can be found on AZ.

Good Luck!

Welcome!

You'll get a lot of help. Please use the search feature as well.

.

I like Tramp already. Hazing on a forum, my kind of place.

Rails, check..cusions, check, playability...well..check..at least for now until I know better.

thanks again. Ill post up more before's when I can find them on my phone.
