Hello all, great site. I was fortunate to learn the game of pool from my grandfather, who taught me the importance of english vs slamming balls around..I grew up on a GC 3 I believe it was, and since have owned a few tables, mostly imports until now. I am very lucky to have met recently a mentor who is helping me refine my taste in not only the game, but the tables that have been long forgotten..
I am recently semi-retired and have begun refurbishing antique Brunswick tables. I am by no means a pro, but love to work with wood and have found a lot of joy and therapy working on these absolutely beautiful tables from the past.
My first project was a 9' Saratoga 6-leg, refinished, colored, and satin finished in a little under 8 weeks, and i now show her proudly in my home.
my second project is a 10' Newport Carom, not a lot of work to do actually, with a light refinish of the 1/4 sawn oak, it looks as good as the day it did new(1908-1909 I believe)
Next I have a 9' Medalist that will be a very long project, lots of veneer work.
2 Gold Crown 3's, on the back burner...and one Peter Vitalie Sterling that was a display only currently for sale.
Can anyone guide me towards the best threads on antique projects, I am anxious to learn more about the methods and materials that the pros use here.
thanks, Taylor
