Tommy Kennedy How good?

Last night I was talking to Tom Potter and knowing he is a good friend of Tommy Kennedy I mentioned this thread. Mr. Potter is not a member of AZB and asked me if I would post his reply to this thread, of course I agreed.

Steve

Great post (in regards to TK), but obviously Tom forgot to take his happy pills this morning.

Back to pontificating and wishing and hoping that I was a Hasselhoff/KnightRider wannabe.

:D

(C'mon! You deserved that, Potter)

I think Tommy is one of the smart players. Tommy once told me after winning the US Open that traveling and playing pool tournaments was not a good way to make a living. He wanted to be around his family and not out on the road all the time. He said he was spending all of his time representing his sponsors and doing clinic's and exhibitions and stuff and wasn't getting to spend that much time playing, but said getting a salary was more important.

If Tommy would have stayed on the pro tour he would have been one of the top players for sure. He can still play with them, and has spent most of his time running tournaments instead of concentrating on playing in them. The Florida Pro tour back in the 80's and 90's was the premier tour to play on and he about dominated it whenever he played. Tommy went to the US Open to win and I always believed that if he hadn't won that one he would have ended up winning another one. He knew that is what he needed to do to get to where he wanted to be.

SDe, I have nothing but respect for you and I also appreciate Tom's kind words about Tommy, However I think this guy coming on her via SDE to send his message is chicken Shit. He don't like AZB so comes on and insults all of us who do and still feels the need to post something 2nd had. WTF. Like the previous poster said take a happy pill man. Also if you don't like AZB then stay off it and don't have other people post for you.

Tk

it seems like there was another US Open that TK almost won, I think he lost in the semis to Luat, a game TK should have won. It that's right, then he came very close to being a 2-time US Open winner. I used to go to his tournaments to watch, years ago when his tour was really popular. One thing about Tommy, he will adjust his speed so his opponent felt like he had a chance, because Tommy was running the tour so he didn't want to just run over the lesser-players, really his customers. One time I took Sparky Ferrell and Keith Bennett to Atlanta to play in a SE Open tour event. Tommy guarded his tournaments, and if he didn't want you to win he would simply eliminate you. He took both these guys apart, they didn't have a chance. I think Tommy is a top pro, or at least he used to be. Not only does he have the shots, but he is one of the smartest players, strategically, around. Re his recent victory over Earl, where Tommy said he was so happy about it, that's because he really, really dislikes Earl. Tommy may be a very nice person, I don't know, but he can be merciless on the pool table. I used to back Chavez, b4 Chavez really hit his gear, and Tommy would beat Chavez without pity, time after time, he didn't want Chavez in his tournament I guess. Tommy is a top level pro in my opinion.

gamble

why doesn't he gamble?

Tommy has gone through some times when he would gamble. I will also say with his demeanor at the table and his carefree attitude he was very good at it.

One thing I haven't heard anyone mention is that Tommy is an 8 ball bar box monster.

I've known Tommy for 30 years. He's a great player and an absolutely great friend to have. He has a smile for everyone, no matter if he's winning or losing.

Tommy doesn't gamble normally. I was present when he played the late Earl Kellum a money match at the Flamingo bar in St Pete. Both Tommy and Earl called me to help set it up. Earl won. Earl wasa great money player.
Earl later died some time later after a brain injury suffered in a car wreck driving home to Lake City, FL from St Petersburg. Earl did live for some time after the accident, but eventually died due to the injury.

It seemed like more people were watching and rooting for Tommy than anybody else at SBE.
Very entertaining to watch and always smiling.

:clapping:Just saw TK on Saturday at his tournament in Orange Park. First time shaking his hand and talking with him for about ten minutes. The guy radiates talent and shows the utmost in class and respect for other players and the game.
How well does he play? He was probably the better breaker I saw in the tournament. Always drilled the wing ball and always had shape on the one. Pulled a lot of great safeties, too. I mean jail safeties.

I'd love to go back to his events, and if anyone has information on when/where the next one will be, please contact me.:thumbup2:

His site is either not active or very slow to update.

Adam Wheeler...So, it's YOUR job to badmouth TK? Regardless of why or when he chose to 'become a Christian', that is only the business of Tommy and his God...most certainly not you. TK must be beating you on the table for you to act this way. Remember what your momma taught you when you were 5 (KYMS)? Shall we look through your closet and bring out YOUR skeletons? Low class move, for an alleged professional player. Tommy Kennedy is a class individual, without a bad word to say about anyone...even you!

No, he doesnt gamble because he lost a ton of money with someone backing him, and "decided" to be born again..

Tommy was an obnoxious woffer.

He would drive people so nuts . He did something not seen much of back then. He played 2 rail position to the point you thought how can this guy win.
The guy should have used a gun because he was robbing.
He found a happiness some how some way in God.
Now every one enjoys his laugh loves to be around him.
He is a joyful noise in a dark place. Humble too.
Nick :)
