Mali

I never did find out anything as to the original price but I have a feeling it was one of the cheapest ones. The pic from the catalog doesn't really do it justice though, the wood is actually pretty nicely " figured ". Cue is ( assuming it still is ) in great condition, I'd say easily 8/10 if not a 9. Surprisingly the original wrap was still in perfect condition too. I have no interest in selling but would you have a guess Doc on its value ?

I really try not to get into values, but certainly these cues do have solid value. In general a coupe or three hundred should not be out of line for a nice one. The plain cues somewhat less.

Condition is everything. Some of them had micarta ferrules too, which is a plus.

Different joint styles and pins. Lots of things to consider. And of course, the buyer dictates the value today. It's a buyers market.

An extra original shaft is a huge value IMHO. I would love to have one for my Mali.

Yeah I feel ya, I was just kinda curious. The opinions I got on here a couple years ago when I got it was around $100 and I honestly thought that was kinda low. I have no idea what kind of ferrule it has and no second shaft. Brass joint and that's about all I know. I didn't buy as an investment or anyrhing, I bought for nostalgic reasons AND it was just too cheap not to buy. I found it at a pawn shop I stop by whenever I'm in the area. I've bought a few cues from them. Not sure what the deal is but they always sell them to me dirt cheap. I don't remember what the asking price was but I got this one for like $15-$20 bucks - like I said I kinda had to buy it lol.

Cool cue! I have one very similar, but with different handle wood. I'd leave the joint alone unless it needs fixin'. Mine has a hairline crack developing, so might replace it with antler if it becomes an issue. Wish I had better pics, the grain and color is much nicer in natural light.

Btw, these are great cues if you love big ol' butts (on the cue of course).

I like Mali cues ....least the old ones ...one of the best hitting production IMO
Someone should buy this butt from me.
All of my cues are 3/8x10 or 11 and I charge more for my shafts then what I can sale that cue with one of my shafts on it .

I am a big fan of elk or deer horn collars, haven't tried the ferrules yet.
I like a cap less ferrule and don't know how the deer or elk antler will hold up ..

Tempting to just rework the whole cue with elk antler collars and butt cap and laser burn in a new logo and fill it with green finger nail polish put a finish over it, make a pair old growth shafts.

I have 30 or 35 bucks into this butt, really nothing to loose except money into supplies and shaft dowels....

I think that would make a killer looking cue.
Good looking cues now..

What the heck ?
This turned out to be a pretty cool thread, Mali made a really nice hitting cue and extremely inexpensive.

I completely forgot that i had an M8 in the 80's. Decent cue but not even close to the ebony Schon i replaced it with.

I think from this catalog either the m-8 or m-6 would be my favorites, nice looking cue and bet it hit great !

The Mali was a Chevrolet.
The Schon was a Mercedes.

I believe ya. I can honestly say all these years I've never hit with one and while I prob did I dont even recall seeing one up close. I know they have a great reputation and prob well deserved but I've always been a home grown good ol boy stickin with the boyz from the neighborhood.

If anyone can offer up anymore info on my m-1 I'd love to hear it cause realm I dont know that much.

$100 probably isn't far off. Maybe $125. At least going by recent sales. Picking one up for 15-20? No question, of course, buy it.

Nostalgia has a lot to do with my affinity for older cues. I get a lot of enjoyment out of owning and playing with them.

I definitely am far from an educated collector. My thought process was you are hard pressed to by a name brand cue, that is dead straight for less than $200. ( players excluded). Then add in an almost 40 yo cue in near mint condition....like I said what do I know but just basing it off of that I was thinking around $200. Once again dont really care at all. It was cheap, it was cool. I have loaned it to my 5 yo nephew lol. We take him out to shoot pool and he really likes it. We've tried a couple of kids cues and he doesn't like them at all. He likes to play with just a shaft. His dads tip fell off so I gave this to them to play with till he got it fixed lol.

Here are the catalogs that someone provided me.( Courtesy of WildWing ) My Mali is the M-1, it was dated supposedly to 1979.

My pleasure, as always. Don't forget, that Mali series also had a M-11 through M-15. Here it is.

All the best,
WW

The Real Prize

Now, the real prize is for anyone who remembers that Mike Sigel actually represented Mali cues for a short time. Never played one, but represented them. I think they had a good relationship.

All the best,

Now I know I have an M-13

I didn't know the model previously. Mine does not have a stainless joint though. It is a darker metal, but does not look like brass either.

Stick with me; you'll be wearin' potatoes like diamonds...

Chopdoc, I had an M8 that I took to Dan Janes 15yrs ago to get a Joss made to the same weights/measurements....had what looked to be a brushed aluminum joint, but the finish coat was beginning to flake.....Dan took it in the back to measure, when he returned the joint was the brightest stainless you've ever seen. He just put it on the polish wheel....

Nine....corner,
Is that picture of your actual cue or an internet picture of the same model?

Just wondering, I own what I think is the cue in this picture, but don't think it's original, restored more likely....the wrap doesn't appear to be the same linen on my other Mali cues.....brighter white, larger thread, different specs.....if this is your actual cue then maybe mine is original. Also the pin is ground shorter than my others.

Cool.

Mine is in pristine condition. I don't think it is a finish issue. I really am not sure though.

If you look at the catalog page in the first post on this thread you will see what I am talking about. The joint is a dark metal. Possibly brass I guess, but not polished or brushed. It's very dark. Looks like it may have a finish over it. Not sure.

Maybe I'll see if I can grab a close-up of mine some time.
