Ignorance by trying to play as a women when you are a male does not allow reimbursement.

Here are some facts about this topic to stop those guessing about who Norma is, and what the team's motives are.

I am from San Diego, and have been a part of this forum for over 10 years now. I know Norma. She has played in the local APA since the early 2000's - always as a woman. She has been playing on the Ladies league since 2012, when our local league operator started the division. No one has ever questioned Norma as a female. Maybe it is due to us living in such a LGBT friendly city, but not one of us, including our league operators, have ever thought to ask Norma for an identification for us to determine what her ID says. To us, Norma identifies as female, and has for more years than she has been an APA member - and a career 4 at that. And when I say identifies, I mean that every day of her life, and when she comes out to play, she dresses in modest heels, nice sweaters, and is more female every day than most of us live their lives.

There is no instance here of a guy dressing as a female to be a super whatever at their skill level. This is Norma's life we're talking about, not a trick or some move to get some sort of advantage against the other teams. All the ladies that play on her team also have never questioned her gender, because to them it did not matter. All she wants is to play league pool, and that was all she was doing. The subject has literally never come up with them, or the league operators, or the rest of the SDAPA membership.

Someone mentioned how they would be upset if they were on one of the teams that were beat before Norma had been made ineligible. For all of you who don't know, Norma is 82 years old. You're going to tell me if we're so stuck on what gender some one identifies with that you are upset by getting beat by an 82 year old man who has been never higher than a 4? Would you still like to tell me how putting an 82 year old, career skill level 4, should bring about all of this? This post, this hate, by some?

Tina, it's not hate. It's common sense. You should have learned this long ago- if a person has a penis, they are a man. If they have a vagina, they are a girl. Dressing a man as a woman does not make him a her.

Skill level, nor how long he has identified himself as a woman matters not one iota. What does matter is that it is a woman's tournament, not a whatever you feel like today tournament.

Like you stated, you are used to seeing the abnormal, and don't even recognize it as such anymore. But, just because you are now de-sensitized to what it actually is, does not make it any less abnormal. It's not hate, it's normality. Something far too many have lost site of.

I'm all for gay and lesbian equality, but there are certain gray areas that exist for transgender people. If Norma Posy should be allowed to play in tournaments, then there should no longer be male and female tournaments. They should all be open tournaments.

But I don't think the majority of women would like that. Women are better than men at many things, on average, but pool is not one of them. It all comes down to hormones and brain development. You can take away her testosterone, but you will not take away or reverse her brain development, which is better equipped for something like pool. I applaud anomalies like Karen Corr, but they are viewed as anomalies for good reason.

I'm all for transgender equality too, but sports (only in regard to transsexual women) is an exception. Political correctness is a powerful thing nowadays.

You better check the rules you play under as you are required to have it on you and present it to your opponent when asked for it. I check even in the finals of every mini mania match.

This is a mental deficiency, not a physical deficiency.

The earth is flat, that was a universally accepted fact at some point, it's clearly not a fact today.

At some point science believed that things burned because they contained an invisible (make belief) substance called phlogiston. That was a fact at some point, it's isn't now.

Our understanding of the universe and everything in it (including people, gender identity, sexual orientation) evolves over time. It's all part of evolution.

For every study showing one "fact" there are 10 other studies showing a different "fact".

We are all entitled to our opinions and our beliefs. But they are opinions and beliefs. They are certainly not "facts".

I kind of have to wonder just what the LO had to be thinking, or even the team captain for that matter. The only conceivable explanation I can think of is that they didn't know.
Either that, or they all met before traveling to Las Vegas and figured it was time to make some kind of statement regarding The APA and gender specific events in pool. Did they really not have the foresight to think this wouldn't come up?
Regardless of your personal feelings on the topic I imagine this is seen as a rule violation. It might require The APA to adopt the same identifying information as the information that appears on your government issued ID.
I feel badly for Norma and her team, I'm sure they haven't heard the end of this, but in this tournament I can't imagine anyone would look the other way at a bad hit, I don't know why they thought this wouldn't be an issue or why they thought it was an appropriate time to bring it to the forefront.

Evolution is not a choice as I understand the meaning. Perhaps "born this way" is more fitting.

Not new in the least, just more visible and accepted. Bubba is on FB now so he has less time to grab people off the street and beat the sh#t out of them for their choices. Plus the law used to look away and now Bubba would go to jail. Unless he lives in MS and parts of TX.

I think the ineligibility came from Norma being too cheap to get his name changed.??
