Oh my goodness. VV starts at 26 minutes or so. I am 15 minutes in. I am simply shocked.

Times like this I am really glad I work for a living.

I think VV did mean well, and she feels quite victimized because in her view she tried to help the players and they were whiny and unappreciative. The reality is that while I knew nothing about this before, this interview only put the nail in the coffin that not only were many things mishandled, she personally continues to mishandle the situation. Things that stood out:

1. She spent 15 minutes talking about a $15 badge to one player. This was a very small issue, yet it was an issue that she has a legitimate point on. But to focus on one trivial issue in light of the major issues all around seemed like misdirection to me.

2. Disrespecting players. She continuously calls players out by name, calling them whiny babies, profanity, saying she wished they'd get the f*** out, she won't invite them back again, they need her she doesn't need them, and on and on. She kept repeating that she hasn't read anything online because she 'knows the truth' and that she doesn't care what anyone else says, and she is trying to feel smug about it because we are just 'making her famous' by our criticism.

3. She is a bully. It was clear that even the interviewers were afraid of her. The one that was supposed to be 'playing devil's advocate' was so scared of being attacked he spent the majority of his questions walking on eggshells and trying to find a way to ask her the question that didn't get him screamed at, when the man was literally only trying to give her a platform to clear her name. Then he couldn't even ask the question because she was so bent on her point of view she would jump in on something and keep running her same spiel until everyone agreed with her. It was disturbing.

4. She was plain wrong. One legitimate concern was that the 'guaranteed prize money' wasn't added as advertised. Her defenses were 1) While it didn't disclose the conditions on FB or the flyers, it said 'based on full field' on the website, and players should have read that too, and understand that flyers are 'just marketing', and that they were put together by a multi-billion dollar company so they are right, 2) Pool players should just know that 'guaranteed' means 'based on full field' because that's how most tournaments work, 3) pool players are just wrecking pool because they are whiny and pathetic, and 4) she would have made sure all the money was added but didn't because of how the players acted. She acted like it was outrageous that pool promoters would have to disclose the conditions of added money on every flyer in the future.

I haven't even made it through yet but didn't want to lose my train of thought. All I can think is IMMATURE and UNACCOUNTABLE. I used to manage a team of 22-24 year old fresh college graduates, and they didn't make excuses, point fingers, take things personally while making personal attacks, escalate the hostility level, and come across this poorly.

I know she is a real person and is really hurting as a result of this. I wish that she would learn from her pain, grow some humility, stay within her ability in the future to avoid further injury to herself or anyone else, and quiet down until this blows over and she can move on. It won't undo what was done to the players, but that is all she can do. Unfortunately it seems she is determined to keep on her path, so I guess all we can do is stay out of the way. Now I know why she is called the Tornado.

I'm 30 minutes in and I'm shocked. She may have had good intentions, but she's not doing herself any favors with this interview. Even if she was wronged in some ways (hypothetically), she is handling this in the most unprofessional way possible. Calling multiple players by name, babies, idiots, a little *****, etc. for everyone to hear, is not the way to go. Maybe this isn't how it is, but my impression is it's her way or the highway. IMO she needs to learn how to deal with conflict a little better. I don't know Vivian and she may be a great person and have good intentions, but she needs to learn not to speak to the public like she's venting to her best friend behind closed doors. She's also wrong on how she doesn't need the players and how they need her. It's mutual and both parties need to respect each other.

Because of all the crybabies (her view and term) in the men's event this year, Viv plans to make the next men's event an invitational rather than an open, possibly with only 16 players.

Perhaps, with the passage of time, she'll reconsider.

Goodness gracious. That woman has a very strong personality...and not in a good way. I'm glad I don't know her personally.

I actually enjoyed listening to this. There were threads on here prior to this interview where myself & others who have had personal experience with her posted what others who don't know her said were tasteless comments. I'm glad everyone who listened got a chance to hear what those that do know her already know.

She's no victim here, those that participated in the event were. Do something for pool & the players? Anyone that has had any experience with her understands she does nothing for anyone other than herself and whatever female she's with, she's feral & self serving. Perhaps after hearing this interview from her own mouth some may now understand how others have the opinion about her that they do. Invitational for the men next year? Good luck finding anyone that wants to subject themselves to that.

She called out a bunch of male players by name. It was in poor taste. But she then chastises Appleton for forfeiting for apparently being hungover and she says, "How would a sponsor like that?" This woman is insane.

Leave me on a deserted island with only her, I'll jump into the ocean and drown.

Just listened to the interview and WOW! I can sum up my thoughts of it with just two words : WOW & DISGUSTING.

For Decades Vivian was always one of my favorite top 5, really probably top 3 women's players but I can assure you she is no longer. I will try to make sure I do not support anything she is involved in. After listening to this and with the other things I've learned this week i have lost all respect for her. What a total punt she came across as in this interview. Even though it was HER EVENT, she took absolutely no responsibility for anything but had no problem with assigning blame. I'm giving even money ( hell I'd even gives odds at this point lol ) that no in has to worry about any future events with Seminole HRC with her. Casinos allow events like this to be held on their property because they expect action and food and drink sales as well as room rentals from the attendees and from all accounts nobody went! The biggest crowd I've seen was that photo with what like 7 people in it. What a massive waist of time this must have been for the Seminoles.

I did however agree with her on two points. The first is the badge situation. The second is about players whining. Regardless if they were right or wrong I truly can not stand to hear absolutely grown man cry. I'm sure they had legitimate issues but there are better ways to handle it such as with your wallet.

So as to the interview itself - Vivian constantly contridicted herself on multiple things. The biggest one was in regards to the added money. First she states that the players would have in fact rcvd ALL of the added money if they had not been such cry babies and whiners. Then later on she reverts back to the " based on a full field of xxx players and talks about how it was specifies on the official website ( but nowhere else ). While she may be right in a strictly legal sense, I think everyone agrees it should have said so on all materials about the event. Then she blames the tribe for it not being on the flyers lol.

More on the added money - she even had the nerve to say the men hurt her personally because the men'should event didn't max out! lol Talking about how she didn't win what she would have winning the Scotch doubles because the payout was pro rated due to the men's field not filling up. Said she really didn't even want to have a men's event from the start. She must REALLY not like men I suppose. Says now she will start preparing for her next event but this one is only gonna be a 16 person field by invitation only. Between all the people she has " banned " from her events and all the people that probably want nothing to do with her will that 16 person field even fill up? Guess we will see.

Mr. Bond, I always love all of your cool posts about the history of pool and what not. Love ABR too, thank you for all you do. I do want to say this though about the interview - I was very disappointed that you allowed Vivian to constantly talk over you and Mark and cut yall off throughout the entire interview. I know you were just being cool and being professional. All I can say is you handled that much much better than I would have been able to.

We do need to try to support those that try to do things for our sport and try to grow it but those folks also need to be decent to other people and at least try to be professional going about it or more harm than good results. I will have to assume that she started out with good intentions , but in reality good intentions only go so far. With out execution, good intentions and a couple bucks will get you exactly one cup of coffee. Hopefully lessons were learned, attitudes can be improved, proper staffing can be found and utilized and maybe some day this may turn out to be a nice event good for all the players and spectator.

Oh well.
I guess i will have to listen to this to see what she says.

Funny.
I know another pool promoter who doesn't take garbage from anyone.
He says it like it is, throws people out, and doesn't give a crap what you think. You either fall in line or you are gone.

His name is Mike Zuglan. And he runs one of the best tournaments around.

I wonder if he was a female, if the masses would be more inclined to complain about stuff they disagree with.
Hhmmmm.

But at the same time, Mike runs a tight ship. You don't have any questions about prize money at Turning Stone, and there are no issues with badges because entrance to the venue is free.
If any pool player wants to act like they are in kindergarden, Mike will stick them in time out without batting an eyelash and that will be the end of the problem.

Maybe Viv could take some pointers from Mike on how to run a tournament properly on Native American soil so that she could be her hard ass self and get nothing but respect.

Just a thought.

Maybe you should listen before making assumptions. I doubt Zuglan would talk about any players the way Vivian did, or at least not publically.

Right or wrong, Viv made an ass out of herself.

Holy crap! Comparing Mike Zuglan to VV? Are you kidding me? These two "promoters" are not even in the same ballpark. Mike has promoted quality 'on the square' events for more than 2 decades...Vivian has had nothing but trouble with the events she's been involved with, by her own hand. Vivian was wrong on so many counts, that it's just silly to try to compare her to someone who does great things for tournament pool.

Right or wrong, Viv made an ass out of herself.

They call her out in public, I think she has a right to call them out in public. And I did listen.

I agree about the badge and having to pay - this crap goes on all the time(cheap ass pool players)

Added money based on full field shoulda been on flyers etc. But if it was on registration page they have nobody to blame but themselves.

The guys who got screwed on their entry fee - that was wrong period, especially the guy who could attend and she took him off the list wtf?

Enough for now

My thoughts

I attended the event. I have read the posts on Facebook as well from many parties. I listened to the interview this morning. I was very, very disappointed. Just another black eye for the industry. While there were things that were stated on the interview that I do agree with, the name calling and calling out players by their names in the process was in very poor taste and very unprofessional. The personal attacks could have been left out and the real issues should have been addressed and done so in a fashion that would give confidence that the issues have been acknowledged and would be dealt with accordingly so as to not have recurrence at future events. The "pro" players that have taken to posting on social media need to keep in mind that they are public figures and are ambassadors of the game. They need to act accordingly understanding that the image they portray whether they like it or not reflects on the industry in which they have chosen to earn their living. This can impact many more individuals than just themselves. All of this including the BS I have seen with respect to streamers feuding back and forth will continue to play into why corporate sponsors and venture capitalists either overlook the industry or refuse to invest in the industry, especially in the United States.

Do people even bother to read?
"Maybe Viv could take some pointers from Mike..."

Sorry. I didn't realize that telling a trainwreck to take some pointers from the guy running THE TIGHTEST ship in the country was a bad thing.
But that's OK.
You keep right on freaking out about it

Best post in the thread! Tap, tap, tap.

Why?

Because people are only saying these things because Viv is a woman?

She would get treated just the same if she were a man. When you screw up as a promoter you should expect to get called out. See, Barry Behrman RIP

I already knew what Vivian was before hit the ABR button, but IMO the tribe was pretty greedy too. Also just having 25k for 128 players on the registration form is wrong. A lot of players have/had their banker send entry and fill out form. So some players had probably never even gone to the web site. Johnnyt

Oh Tin Man-

I think VV did mean well, and she feels quite victimized because in her view she tried to help the players and they were whiny and unappreciative. Now I know why she is called the Tornado.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who hears all of this and is beyond mortified!

All this in the name of "trying to do something for pool"

"They need me, I don't need them"

Yes, that creates unity and brotherhood.

You need a heart to feel hurt Tin Man-she has none.
She sees nothing but herself.
